This game did my head in when I was a kid. Couldn't figure out how to proceed past that wall. To this day it is quite literally the only thing I remember from that game.
@ebhustln i knew about it but it was a mistake...i was one of those kids who played around and until it happened...just like the side frame trick from east to west on zelda 1.
@@tumatauenga6433 Yes. There was a hint. In the Japanese version of the game, one of the clues in Brahm's Mansion was "Show the red crystal in front of Deborah’s cliff and wait for the wind." But the English translation was “Wait for a soul with a red crystal on Deborah Cliff”. So not very helpful.
@@SRADracer This was one of those games that was trying to be a truly great adventure/puzzle game and it just failed so hard on the puzzle aspect. As a kid, I just wasn't smart enough to get through both the puzzles and the terrible hint design. I think I managed to get to the morning star whip on my own a few times, but after that I just had to follow a guide.
I'm so upset I can do the floor drops and everything but I can't do the first Lizard Man part to grind the hearts it's like unattainable for me I don't know why I can't do it I wish that somebody would make a video just explaining the Lizard Man heart grind
That is Alba Town, it's simply where the ferryman brings you and it's a necessary place to visit to beat the game because you are given the red crystal there.
Yes, the last active frame of most subweapons have glitched damage code and they deal a fixed 185 HP of damage instead. Enough to one-shot every single enemy in the game except Carmilla and Dracula (the former is immune to said subweapons, the latter dies in two hits).

@@SBDWolf Just tried it didn't work. I Equipped laurel, hit with dagger and switched to holy water and he killed my ass haha. Did the laurels mess it up? Idk.
It's a frame perfect trick we're talking about, give it a few tries. Also the dagger throw is another attempt to crit, ideally you one-shot him with the dagger.
Based on two speed runs I've seen now, I'm starting to see that I was right in not giving this game a chance back when it came out. Too bad.....I really enjoyed the first game. The game is broken when it encourages or requires you to cheat the spawning mechanic in order to stock pile hearts or coins or whatever. Way too much time wasted on that frivolity.
In less then 26 i beat it in 8:18:44 i can do way better doe i got it in 7:7:14 i got the proof, i just dont got the computer to loaded it up, i will buy another new phone next friday the 30 oct2020 n show yah

The only way I was able to beat this game as a kid was to buy the NES Atlas, which had a full walkthrough :P

I'm guessing the drop rate on hearts is just better on the left map vs the right which has easier monsters if your just starting.

Great run! You don't need to grab the chain whip in the 100% category or did I miss it?
The game’s inventory only keeps track of the highest level whip so only flame whip (upgraded from morning star) is required.
