I put it around my garbage can and inside my garbage can outside and even inside my vehicle. They never come near my outside garbage can anymore. No remnants of them coming to my garbage can anymore so guess it works.. I also sprinkle it all over my pantry shelves. And it makes it smell good. I live in the country and have animals and not even my dogs or cats come near the cinnamon. Mine do not like the smell at all. Ive heard they will eat Bay leaves also and get rid of them. And i have used that also but bay leaves are expensive and I can find cheap ground cinnamon at the dollar store....
Two very important places they did not mention as far as I know: 1. For a complete examination of your kitchen, look at the underside of your base cabinets where they overhang the toe-kick. They chew holes that you don't see so they can scamper into hiding when humans and pets approach. Place a small mirror on the floor and use good lighting. 2. Don't just look at the floor under your sofa. Look at your sofa's underside. Rats can chew a hole in the thin fabric that is stapled to the bottom of chairs and sofas and thereby create a roomy private apartment. If they do that, you will never see a dropping on the floor--not until there is so much inside the sofa that it rots the fabric. (They won't make a sound when someone sits on the furniture.) Rodent alarm. Patent Pending. DIY version: Attach some jingle bells to a piece of cardboard and glue the cardboard to the bottom of the cloth that covers the void under sofas and chairs. Don't let the bells touch the floor because that might silence them. If a rodent is starting to use your furniture as a comfortable dwelling, it will probably ring the bells just by walking around while measuring for drapes.

Catching the rats alive and abandoning them somewhere in the forest is anything but social. The rats will start wandering and will settle down with someone else who will then have your worries. Transport in a live trap is also pure stress for the animals, sometimes ending in cardiac arrest. The best trap is one that breaks the neck instantly

If you want them gone just mix baking soda and flour in a plastic plate. The theory is that the rat will get thirsty and and since they can't burp, they just can't get rid of the gas.

My elderly neighbor has had large rats and I'm afraid we are going to get them eventually. I don't know what to do. Part of the problem is we live behind a plaza full of restaurants. The garbage behind the plaza is overflowing with food and it smells horrible. Any advise? P.S my elderly neighbor has dementia and I don't want to call anyone because of the Coronavirus and the condition of nursing homes. @@lauriejkase3111 YOU NEED TO EXCLUDE THE RATS BEFORE GETTING INFESTED.... 1st Push EXCESSIVE amount of copper mesh into hole. So that the excessive amount is on the side of the wall you can't see. (Copper mesh sold for cheap on amazon) 2nd Stable using stainless steel wire mesh (stable gun/ stainless wire mesh sold on amazon for cheap) 3rd Cover the stainless steel wire mesh with glue boards. Preferably a couple of tomcats glue boards. The WHITE glue boards (sold for cheap on amazon)4th Spray tomcat rodent block expanding foam over the glue board. Use a razor blade to cut off excessive if its within a living space. ( TomCat Rodent block sold for cheap on amazon)PLEASE keep in mind the rodent blocking spray has to be used ALL at once. So find ALL your possible holes and entry points and cover ALL the holes in your house at the same time. Just make a day out of it. Better than living with rodents who don't pay rent and destroy your property. The the worlds worst tenants. LOL. Hope this helps someone. I've done exactly the above with my current rats and they could NOT get back thru the same hole. YOUR WELCOME =) P.S. If you own a home REMEMBER they love getting into your house from the roof which means they're doing so from overgrown trees. They sell CatchMaster Tree Banding (on amazon for cheap) so you can wrap your trees AFTER you seal off all the entry points.
@@lauriejkase3111 BTW you can buy cheap motion sensors (but i use guardline) and also pair it with at least 2 trail cameras. I use the campark trail camera. This way you can monitor the rats in REAL time. No need to play the guessing game.... because just cause you dont see or hear them don't mean YOU don't have an infestation.

I have often seen rats washing themselves, their fur is probably oily because the norwegian rat is a rather aquatic animal. and they swim in freezing water.
boomer1954ful now is a good time to get them since Halloween is near I got one from Walmart for 9 bucks I have t tried it on rats yet but I just found out that one is in my room and we just moved into this home but of course the garage and doors were open while moving and I happen to be moving a box around and saw a nice size eat and I have set traps and poison and I notice I can hear it move around at night so I’m going to give a try for sure
what category is the pack rat in the desert here? Is it a true rat? cuz that's what I'm having problems with,, they even sleep on the engine of my car at night so I have to put sticky rat traps across everything, having to remove them all when I use it.. It's a pain in the butt..
You obviously don't have to deal with pack rats.. cuz I've tried EVERYTHING and I'm not willing to give my car to a family of pack rats to be destroyed just cuz you have sympathy for them..

If you hear a trap catch a rat, get it removed immediately, we have found that they will actually chew their legs or tails off to get away or try to take the trap with them. Its Gross. Very gross. A little Peanut butter in the trap works best for us because they have to be there long enough to get it out. Even if peanut butter hardens you can leave it there longer and they will still try to get it. Little mice can grab cheese and run not setting off the trap but peanut butter helps them stay a little longer hopelfully getting the smaller rat.

Good points throughout. First......Just look around. Things didn't just get this way overnight. Berry bushes and fruit trees don't bear fruit in the first few years. We used to do yard work, now we work on the computer. Things change. Rodents do not. Cats have changed, most regard a mouse as a toy, not all cats are good mousers. Nothing works long term. The bait boxes would work, but they don't eat enough to end the problem. Plus, dead blood thinned rodent, gets into the Fox and the Owl. Looks like the set up with a plank smeared with peanut butter, over a water bucket is best, drowned in water. Rodents can tread water for days and weeks, hasten the kill with some Dawn or something...not antifreeze for environment purposes. People say plaster of Paris or baking soda with chocolate or peanut butter. We're not building right..it's easy to use metal diverter sheets anywhere along the baseline of doors and structures. Easy to find, it's sold in four foot lengths, screw hole in place, it will disappear with paint. Fake owls don't work. Smelly soap doesn't work, it gets chewed though. Mice under the porch? Open the lattice ends-piece...tell The Fox. Sheesh....can't we do better than this? Such a pervasive problem throughout history. Would like this inspector to do the zappers....charger hammers them when they go for the bait, ain't cheap, but neither is an exterminating contract, Diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the building? It would discourage them. So does a cat or dog. With diatomaceous earth, it would kill insects, it cuts them and they dehydrate. Nothing works, but lots of things work a little. Like dieting. Nothing works. Please inspector man....what about walk the peanut butter plank. What about goodnature zapper? What about diatomaceous earth ? But Jeez....should it be this hard?
Rat poison supposed to be secure inside the rodent station, not like the older gentleman did, he put the poison inside, then close it. Wrong! if any one like a landscaper move the station, the poison can accidentally exit the box without any obstacle because the poison never was secure with a metal wire inside the rodent station.
Good point! ..I have seen bait boxes outside supermarkets, but never gave it a second thought that the bait might come loose and be taken by a non target species.
They don’t just have bones in their head and cartilage for the rest of their body. They have a full skeleton!! It is more like their ribs are double jointed and can flex so they point back when they need to squeeze through an opening. Rats do clean themselves and actually spend more time cleaning themselves than a cat does. Males produce what is known as Buck grease especially as they get older. Rats will rescue another rat that is trapped over eating food. They have also been trained to drive tiny cars lol
Oh how more cities would provide this service. #1. They've nothing to gain, honest facts are being told. Whereas, calling out a paid exterminator (most, not all times) the resident is being upsold, into products they may not need. OR those of us who have had the unfortunate experiences with Terminix, find them just to plain lie! If you have them, they say otherwise, or if you don't they say you do. NEVER go that route, btw NEVER!

@@dorothymartin8557 Exactly this!! I hired a local pest control. Worse thing I could have ever done. They put out glue traps & poison packs in the house in the rooms they bothered to go into. Despite my pets being harmed if they possibly ate that. My cat got caught up with a glue trap. Stuffed wire mesh inside where my laundry room pipes come out. And left gaps everywhere. Told me it was impossible they were coming in around the dryer vent despite numerous droppings behind the dryer. Threw a total of one poison pack from the attic access door. Told me they had no clue how they were getting in. It was worse after they came. Then I made myself go look outside around the dryer vent because I'm terrified of these things. And what do you know, a hole chewed through metal right beside my dryer vent. I changed that out by myself & sealed the holes. There were a lot more outside & inside. If I can do it without any experience, only UA-cam videos, anyone can. I can run circles around that pest control now. People have to take power back to their own hands. Because unfortunately there are people who don't care about anything but 💸
Poisoned rats may become food for other animals, including your pets. Curious children may also handle poisoned rats. Do not use poisons, ever. There are non-poisonous edibles (mix together oatmeal, brown sugar and dry concrete mix) which will bung up the rats and kill them. Please do NOT use poisons.
Not only that but they die in your walls and ceilings then rot and stick everything up and you have to spend thousands tearing down walls to remove them.
When using glue traps, I save large metal cans, cut both ends off and duct tape two together. Then lightly bend the glue trap and place inside the metal tube and place beside walls. Keeps clean longer and keeps anything or anyone accidentally getting stuck. I put a yellow strip of tape along one side indicating "up" and easier to see if it was disturbed.
Very informative video. A must watch by everyone. Unfortunately I live in a condo complex and I cannot do anything without approval by the HOA. And if I crawl around trying to perform rat exclusion, I can get fines by the HOA performing unapproved activities as I can't go on the roof or restricted area without approval.

Please, poisoned rats and mice are eaten by pets and large birds. They are a dead trap for eagles, hawks and owls. I've had two dogs poisoned by mice they snatched up on walks. Both survived, but one only because she was a large breed. Her two weeks of hell until it left her system was gut wrenching. The second one we got to the vet within half an hour an ingesting the critter and she was okay.

They are what happened when mankind fell from God's grace. Every SINGLE animal had a purpose and reason...and I'm sure didn't over-breed like rats/mice do now. They probably were necessary to, um, "take care of" the abundance of deceased animals in the Garden of Eden. But then, Adam & Eve screwed up, and everything went wrong.
He's been doing it FORTY YEARS - He's clearly immune to whatever they carry. Me? I'm wearing a HAZMAT SUIT when I catch the little A-hole that thinks he/she's making a home at MY house! Since I learned they love to climb, I'm even putting a couple traps in my big Chinese Elm trees. If I catch a sparrow....well, collateral damage.
My experience is that traps only work a few times and then the cagey critters won't ever fall for it again! ....it is like the fear gets passed on to their offspring! WIERD thing is after they are wise to wooden traps then the plastic ones WILL work for a while ...then those too get ignored.. Poison bait on the other hand seems to work forever...they LOVE that crap! Problem with the baits is they DO love it so even though it kills a bunch it also ATTRACTS them! The more I put out the more rodents come in from the outdoors to GET the stuff! maddening! LOL....I am trying "para moth balls" to repel mice OUTDOOR locations ....you can NOT use mothballs anywhere in or under your home (or in attic) because it releases some REALLY awful gas that STINKS and makes you sick! (ask me how I know THAT) mothballs are intended to only be used in sealed containers to protect clothing and blankets etc...but I am trying under the hood of my truck and under seat of my UTV and also in a patio storage chest ...all outdoor locations we keep having nice living in....I am hoping it is so we'll ventilated outside the noxious gas won't be a problem for us ....I just want it to offend the rodents enough to stay out of these places....so far so good...also ordering peppermint oil to tinge water with and spray it as a repellent ....supposedly works for weeks or months per application
I heard you're supposed to move the trap around to different areas...from the one where their cousin was killed. But another rat/mice expert said it doesn't matter.... and he raised rats, sooo, he's the expert.

This is my update I did machinist work for years, u name I pretty much rebuilt it. The biggest joke mice are definitely ignorant, but I have fought some rat's here on this Mississippi River about 6 miles south of the city. This is my last step the peanut butter n Armand Hammer Baking Soda. I have a 130 quart pot. I used wire and cans even pvc pipe inside another ant the five gallon buckets. When my Blink hits, I pull it up. Not one was going swimming, but there were circus rat's are they walk the rim of the buckets like it's a show now the peanut butter n seeds tonight and for about a week or longer it's got to work like he sad they don't burb or fart all they do is eat and drop perfect size every time. The next step if it doesn't work will for sure rabbit wire with a 110 volts that will be backed up with only a 10 Amp breaker first don't want no fire but if if it gets worse were I need too worry about a fire witch I don't believe especially with a surge protector plugged into a GFI IT WILL BE FINE BUT IM VERY IMPRESSED FROM A VIDEO I SEEN ABOUT THE PEANUT BUTTER CAKES I EVEN STABILIZED THE VICTOR RAT TRAP YES I CAUGHT A FEW BY FEEDING THEM FOR THREE NIGHTS AND WATCHING ONE GET A STICK TO MAKE IT POP UNBELIEVABLE RAT'S ARE A LOT MORE INTELLIGENT THAN 73 PERCENT OF THE GENERATION TOTING AROUND A I PHONE YOU TAKE THAT OR THEY LOOSE IT THERE LIFE IS A TOTAL DISASTER.

1st Push EXCESSIVE amount of copper mesh into hole. So that the excessive amount is on the side of the wall you can't see. (Copper mesh sold for cheap on amazon) 2nd Stable using stainless steel wire mesh (stable gun/ stainless wire mesh sold on amazon for cheap) 3rd Cover the stainless steel wire mesh with glue boards. Preferably a couple of tomcats glue boards. The WHITE glue boards (sold for cheap on amazon)4th Spray tomcat rodent block expanding foam over the glue board. Use a razor blade to cut off excessive if its within a living space. ( TomCat Rodent block sold for cheap on amazon)PLEASE keep in mind the rodent blocking spray has to be used ALL at once. So find ALL your possible holes and entry points and cover ALL the holes in your house at the same time. Just make a day out of it. Better than living with rodents who don't pay rent and destroy your property. The the worlds worst tenants. LOL. Hope this helps someone. I've done exactly the above with my current rats and they could NOT get back thru the same hole. YOUR WELCOME =) P.S. If you own a home REMEMBER they love getting into your house from the roof which means they're doing so from overgrown trees. They sell CatchMaster Tree Banding (on amazon for cheap) so you can wrap your trees AFTER you seal off all the entry points.

what category is the pack rat in the desert here? Is it a true rat? cuz that's what I'm having problems with,, they even sleep on the engine of my car at night so I have to put sticky rat traps across everything, having to remove them all when I use it.. It's a pain in the butt..

If you hear a trap catch a rat, get it removed immediately, we have found that they will actually chew their legs or tails off to get away or try to take the trap with them. Its Gross. Very gross. A little Peanut butter in the trap works best for us because they have to be there long enough to get it out. Even if peanut butter hardens you can leave it there longer and they will still try to get it. Little mice can grab cheese and run not setting off the trap but peanut butter helps them stay a little longer hopelfully getting the smaller rat.

Good points throughout. First......Just look around. Things didn't just get this way overnight. Berry bushes and fruit trees don't bear fruit in the first few years. We used to do yard work, now we work on the computer. Things change. Rodents do not. Cats have changed, most regard a mouse as a toy, not all cats are good mousers. Nothing works long term. The bait boxes would work, but they don't eat enough to end the problem.
Plus, dead blood thinned rodent, gets into the Fox and the Owl.
Looks like the set up with a plank smeared with peanut butter, over a water bucket is best, drowned in water. Rodents can tread water for days and weeks, hasten the kill with some Dawn or something...not antifreeze for environment purposes. People say plaster of Paris or baking soda with chocolate or peanut butter.
We're not building right..it's easy to use metal diverter sheets anywhere along the baseline of doors and structures. Easy to find, it's sold in four foot lengths, screw hole in place, it will disappear with paint. Fake owls don't work. Smelly soap doesn't work, it gets chewed though. Mice under the porch? Open the lattice ends-piece...tell The Fox.

It would discourage them. So does a cat or dog. With diatomaceous earth, it would kill insects, it cuts them and they dehydrate.

Wrong! if any one like a landscaper move the station, the poison can accidentally exit the box without any obstacle because the poison never was secure with a metal wire inside the rodent station.
Good point! ..I have seen bait boxes outside supermarkets, but never gave it a second thought that the bait might come loose and be taken by a non target species.
This is what you should do instead of poison. This will not hurt any animals or pets.

They don’t just have bones in their head and cartilage for the rest of their body. They have a full skeleton!! It is more like their ribs are double jointed and can flex so they point back when they need to squeeze through an opening. Rats do clean themselves and actually spend more time cleaning themselves than a cat does. Males produce what is known as Buck grease especially as they get older.
Rats will rescue another rat that is trapped over eating food. They have also been trained to drive tiny cars lol

@@dorothymartin8557 Exactly this!! I hired a local pest control. Worse thing I could have ever done. They put out glue traps & poison packs in the house in the rooms they bothered to go into. Despite my pets being harmed if they possibly ate that. My cat got caught up with a glue trap. Stuffed wire mesh inside where my laundry room pipes come out. And left gaps everywhere. Told me it was impossible they were coming in around the dryer vent despite numerous droppings behind the dryer. Threw a total of one poison pack from the attic access door. Told me they had no clue how they were getting in. It was worse after they came. Then I made myself go look outside around the dryer vent because I'm terrified of these things. And what do you know, a hole chewed through metal right beside my dryer vent. I changed that out by myself & sealed the holes. There were a lot more outside & inside. If I can do it without any experience, only UA-cam videos, anyone can. I can run circles around that pest control now. People have to take power back to their own hands. Because unfortunately there are people who don't care about anything but 💸

Poisoned rats may become food for other animals, including your pets. Curious children may also handle poisoned rats. Do not use poisons, ever. There are non-poisonous edibles (mix together oatmeal, brown sugar and dry concrete mix) which will bung up the rats and kill them. Please do NOT use poisons.
Not only that but they die in your walls and ceilings then rot and stick everything up and you have to spend thousands tearing down walls to remove them.

When using glue traps, I save large metal cans, cut both ends off and duct tape two together. Then lightly bend the glue trap and place inside the metal tube and place beside walls. Keeps clean longer and keeps anything or anyone accidentally getting stuck. I put a yellow strip of tape along one side indicating "up" and easier to see if it was disturbed.

And if I crawl around trying to perform rat exclusion, I can get fines by the HOA performing unapproved activities as I can't go on the roof or restricted area without approval.

Please, poisoned rats and mice are eaten by pets and large birds. They are a dead trap for eagles, hawks and owls. I've had two dogs poisoned by mice they snatched up on walks. Both survived, but one only because she was a large breed. Her two weeks of hell until it left her system was gut wrenching. The second one we got to the vet within half an hour an ingesting the critter and she was okay.

My experience is that traps only work a few times and then the cagey critters won't ever fall for it again! ....it is like the fear gets passed on to their offspring! WIERD thing is after they are wise to wooden traps then the plastic ones WILL work for a while ...then those too get ignored.. Poison bait on the other hand seems to work forever...they LOVE that crap! Problem with the baits is they DO love it so even though it kills a bunch it also ATTRACTS them! The more I put out the more rodents come in from the outdoors to GET the stuff! maddening! LOL....I am trying "para moth balls" to repel mice OUTDOOR locations ....you can NOT use mothballs anywhere in or under your home (or in attic) because it releases some REALLY awful gas that STINKS and makes you sick! (ask me how I know THAT) mothballs are intended to only be used in sealed containers to protect clothing and blankets etc...but I am trying under the hood of my truck and under seat of my UTV and also in a patio storage chest ...all outdoor locations we keep having nice living in....I am hoping it is so we'll ventilated outside the noxious gas won't be a problem for us ....I just want it to offend the rodents enough to stay out of these places....so far so good...also ordering peppermint oil to tinge water with and spray it as a repellent ....supposedly works for weeks or months per application

This is my update I did machinist work for years, u name I pretty much rebuilt it. The biggest joke mice are definitely ignorant, but I have fought some rat's here on this Mississippi River about 6 miles south of the city. This is my last step the peanut butter n Armand Hammer Baking Soda. I have a 130 quart pot. I used wire and cans even pvc pipe inside another ant the five gallon buckets. When my Blink hits, I pull it up. Not one was going swimming, but there were circus rat's are they walk the rim of the buckets like it's a show now the peanut butter n seeds tonight and for about a week or longer it's got to work like he sad they don't burb or fart all they do is eat and drop perfect size every time. The next step if it doesn't work will for sure rabbit wire with a 110 volts that will be backed up with only a 10 Amp breaker first don't want no fire but if if it gets worse were I need too worry about a fire witch I don't believe especially with a surge protector plugged into a GFI IT WILL BE FINE BUT IM VERY IMPRESSED FROM A VIDEO I SEEN ABOUT THE PEANUT BUTTER CAKES I EVEN STABILIZED THE VICTOR RAT TRAP YES I CAUGHT A FEW BY FEEDING THEM FOR THREE NIGHTS AND WATCHING ONE GET A STICK TO MAKE IT POP UNBELIEVABLE RAT'S ARE A LOT MORE INTELLIGENT THAN 73 PERCENT OF THE GENERATION TOTING AROUND A I PHONE YOU TAKE THAT OR THEY LOOSE IT THERE LIFE IS A TOTAL DISASTER.
