As a pest controller myself, it’s good to see another pest controller using traditional methods : break back traps and finding the reason there are rats. Also good to see that no poison is being used
Sadly we are in a minority it seems! But time will tell. Hopefully rodenticide will be taken off the market, then, the likes of us good pest controllers will be in a fantastic position 😊
i'm not a pest controller and neither are the cowboys who use the poisons. All they are controlling is where they put it and how much they are charging, on the off chance they get lucky with the placement they are just changing a live infestation into a dead infestation, i can only imagine it leaving a wake of rotting corpses in wall cavities or like in that loft.
I put three plastic bags of commerical rat poison in a rat trap. They ate all the poison, they ate the bags and they came back and ate the plastic trap as well. I've still got rats.
We moved house about 3 years ago. Beautiful property, backing onto farmers fields. Nice large back garden with a small shed. Just after we moved in we spotted a large (about a foot long) rat in our cranberry tree. We later discovered a large network of tunnels going under the fence into the farmers field. (although there's actually a ditch between our back fence and the crop itself. Then we saw several rats gong under the shed (the floor was sitting on 4x4s and there was also a hole in the wooden floor, obviously created by the rats chewing their way in). So we were getting more and more concerned about our rat problem. We needn't have worried, we have two cats and two Pomeranians that seem to have taken care of the problem for us. Our tom cat stays out all night seems to be our most powerful little warrior. Sometimes we'd find about a dozen dead rats in our garden in the morning. During the day we even saw him catching a rat as our female cat just sat watching him. We have also seen her despatch the odd rat during the day but she's nothing like as efficient as our tom. He'll drag them out of the tunnels then despatch them pretty quick with a bite to the back of the neck. As for the dogs, they make a lot of noise and frighten the rats away, but I've never seen them actually catch a rat. It's been over two years now since I've seen a rat on our property. We also dug a trench below the fence and filled it with concreate, so that probably helps. We also laid a concreate base for the shed and moved it to a completely different part of the garden and repaired it's flooring. The neighbours on one side are grateful that, they too, seem to have no more problems with rats which they put down to our cats. Meanwhile, the neighbour on the other side doesn't like cats and would shoo our cats off her property if they ever dared go over there (so they don't any more). This neighbour still has a problem with rats in her garden and they petrify her.
It sounds like a lovely theory, but I’m not sure it’s all down to the cat. One pregnant female rat (with enough food and shelter) can become 200 rats in twelve months. If you extrapolate that over a few years you can imagine the numbers. So unless you have a cat killing 200 rats a year…..see what I mean? It’s more likely that someone nearby has used poison. I guess it could be your cat. But even if it were a team of cats it would be impressive. And you would be finding dead rats everyday. Great results though and keep up the good work. 👍🏼
@@PestInterceptorsBut to be clear, we've never had rats inside this house. And the infestation we had in our yard was not connected with the sewers. These rats live in the countryside in burrows they make in the ground. To wipe them out entirely we'd have to cleans the entire British countryside. There are millions of them. We'll never eradicate them all, but with so much freedom, they're free to go elsewhere. It's not a matter of wiping out their entire population, it's just a matter of making our property unattractive to them. If their burrows are being invaded on a regular basis, they'll abandon it and move on.
@@PestInterceptors It would be extremely rare for a cat kill a fully grown rat. You may see a cat carryong one but it doesnt mean hes killed it. Probably poisened,

I had a guy from Derby come into my home & check to make sure we were not infested. Before he came I made sure I took pics & when he took me into my first loft he showed me a lot of droppings. @@steveclark..That's absolutely correct! I know of a guy who worked at a tire store. He sold so many auto shock absorbers, he ended up being promoted to a manager at a different location. His secret? He sprayed oil into the shock absorbers. Had the customers look at the evidence and told them: their shocks were leaking.

@@PestInterceptors Cholecalciferol was one D3 formulation developed for Brushtail possums (NZ) that also got rats. Cannot comment how % effective it was, it was a paste & used it with the possum bait inside a paste ball. It got enough of the rats to enable some lure/paste to attract the possums.& they got the cyanide pill. But it was expensive. And dogs, and pigs would take it if oportunity happened, like in their reach or dropped out of teh bait bags stapled up high. I think cats did too. Was 25 years ago, dementia.... For PR for farmers without pets we used it,& got good feedback. It wasn't particularly toxic for cows, one got about 10 bags (not cyanide ones) so probably 300g, the vet told us not to panic & she seemed to like it. Wasn't an issue for milk contamination etc either.
@@PestInterceptors Not up with current research, but the widespread field use (probably 50kg in a couple of months) showed D3 took its time, and curing non-target mistakes was prolonged intensive care, if it was successful. This was when it first became available here, improvements may have been made. Its expense made its use at scale unattractive. The anticoagulant alternatives had the secondary poisoning issues. The science has now shifted from considering 1080 a poor rat poison to using it at scale for eradication attempts (google ZIP New Zealand). This stuff wouldn't be acceptable for standard pest control, it's good away from mammals & has a lot of rubbish directed at it, but it slays scavenging dogs & having idiots anywhere near it is a real risk, it's deadly with no antidote. That counts out about 50% of humans....
That's why I put frog flaps on the outlet of my septic pipe (and the grey water) into the septic tank - so rodents or even Cockroaches can't migrate back up the pipes into the house.
Preferred to use a bucket with a ramp. I put a spindle through the top of the bucket with a little bit of peanut butter on it. They've tried to walk on the spindle they fall off into the bottom of the bucket. Don't forget to put water in the bucket
@@bxxmb80 yes they can for many days. That’s why these bucket traps are vile and inhumane things to use and are illegal in the uk because of animal welfare laws.
I was in the industry for 19 yrs on and off I stopped in 2018 don't know why UA-cam showed me this as everything is Metal detecting on my channel 😂 but tbf was a great vid and really nice to see a company that actually think outside the box 😊
I have been running a constant trapline for rats all over my property, for most of 10 years. I control any foods, any shelters, and still get constant mice and rats all the colder months. When the snakes wake up, the rat and mouse problem stops, except in the garden. As it gets cold, they're getting in again. Control outside and indoor trouble is less.
Look for the source. It’s nearly always drainage/sewer. Think about it. If you have a nest of rats nearby and you kill them all that’s the end of the rats. No rats = no new rats. Rats in sewers are so numerous that you’ll never kill them all. Or you can do the same for another ten years ☺️
@@PestInterceptors you won’t stop them , they think there being kind to birds but causing infestation of rodents which even invade there property , nowt queer but folk.
“Not here to kill for killing sake” so true a word pest control is about control and management. As a country boy myself if you got fellow wildlife all is good if they don’t bother you then it’s live and let live. If they won’t move in and impact your livelihood or health then you need the extreme measures.
I live in the Arizona desert where mesquite trees flourish. When the mesquite pods ripen, the rodents gather them up and store them in their nests so they have an almost constant food supply. I also have neighbors who feed the birds. I tried trapping them for 6 months and caught an average of 1 rodent per day, but they were breeding faster than I could trap them. (If nothing happens to them, one breeding pair can turn into 1,250 rats/mice in one year, and in 3 years can multiply to 1/2 a billion!). The traps were in locked bait boxes, but so far I've found about 4 dead birds in the rat traps. So traps don't prevent non-target creatures from being killed either. I tried cornmeal and baking soda but they wouldn't touch it. So finally I resorted to using rodent bait which is working. (I put chicken wire over the bait boxes to keep the birds out). I don't have rodents inside of any of my buildings and they aren't coming out of the septic tank or sewer pipes (which are all new). But they've chewed wires outside, torn the insulation off a vehicle hood, chewed through the windshield washer tubing, made a nest behind a glove box, destroyed veggies in my garden, and they've left trails of urine and feces all over, and I'm not going to put up with that. I'm going to keep poisoning them for a while longer, but eventually I will switch to feeding the survivors Conntraceptol, which is rat/mouse birth control.
Yes, external rats are harder to deal with than internal ones sometimes. In your case it sounds like a nightmare situation. I think what we would do in your situation is a regime of burrow baiting (as much as we hate using rodenticides it sometimes is the only answer!). Burrow baiting, if done correctly, is unlikely to affect other wildlife and it helps get over neophobia as the rats have to dig/chew through it to leave burrows. Find a rodenticide that can be used for this; I don’t know the laws and products in other countries. Bag the bait up in plastic bags. (Grain bait isn’t great, use a pasta or block bait). Push the bags into the rats burrows. Cover with soil and then a large stone/rock. (This prevents non targets getting to it). Do this every seven days until the holes stop reappearing. Then remove the rodenticide. Keep going until there is zero activity, you don’t want to leave any survivors! As for the vehicle problem, in the UK, there is a company called Lodi based in Kingswinford, West Midlands, England. They do a product that keeps rats away from vehicles and I have heard great feedback about this product. Get in touch with them and I’m sure they will send you some (kindly mention us when you do enquire). Best of luck.
Thanks so much for this hugely informative and encouraging video. Am on the edge of a small, busy town and a beautiful AONB, and the rats trot across the footpaths in front of pedestrians.
@@wendyhannan2454 Oh for me it is opposite, but we do not have that meny rats and you only see the occasional rat washing itself when on the street in the morning before the city wakes up. Hi the drain rod that’s stuck in the drain was possibly pulled down when a blockage cleared you would be surprised how much suction you can get especially if the blockage is backing up the soil pipe. Good job with the video 👍
It wasn't pulled down, because the rod was push upstream. If you have metal drain rods, and a hook fitting - you can push it upstream also, hook the rod, and simply pull it out (I owned a drainage company for over 20 years). Also.... most septic tanks lead to soakaways, and they most certainly do not have drains running for miles.
This was a great video. I need someone like you to help me in Australia. We have a few issues very similar to this video ... old unused septic tank, no manhole to roof cavity as is a flat roof, bamboo (that will be getting cut back tomorrow), plenty of overgrowth of other plants and a big wood stack. The rats are in my en-suite wall and so far nothing has worked consistently. I've put up with it for 3 years and I know previous owners had issues too. I really wish I could find someone invested in helping me to solve the problem once and for all and give me a rat free lifetime guarantee too..

Just found this channel . . I work on a Golf Course as the mechanic and also shoot anything that's not playing Golf if I have to . . . Like you I don't kill for no reason. If it's causing damage it has to go. I control the vermin. . Moles, Grey's and eat the pigeons. I love all vermin removal info. My last Boss/Head greenkeeper used to say "there's a mole in the rough at the side of (some green, tee or fairway)" I'd say OK I'll pop some traps in. . . . I'd pop a few traps in looking like they were the business and just leave them (they were in blind holes) ha ha ha ha boss never knew. . . . If the mole came out of the rough/long grass and onto a fairway, green bank or tee . . . I would then put traps in "properly" and that's that. . . a lot of times the rough grass grew up to obscure the mole hills and he was non the wiser. Only take them if you really have to. . . live and let live.
They detest coffee grinds. We get them free from the local coffee shops. Spread around the farm out buildings, no more rats. Works with possums as well.
Rats in the US learn very fast. If another rat gets sick or dies after eating something, the rest wont touch it. If they see a rat get caught in a trap, they stay away too.
I live rural in Texas and I truly suffer with the infernal creatures. Over the past 2 years I've gone through 30 pounds of farm grade rat poison, lost a dozen traps to big ones carrying them off. My dogs and cat are expert rat killers.I've destroyed nesting areas in my yard and sealed chew holes in the walls as they appear. They've literally eaten through my walls. I feel so defeated. Everytime I think I've got them gone...a new more indestructible generation shows up. All I can figure is until the surrounding neighbors (a dozen or so clumped up old mobile homes all the way around me) deal with their end of it, I'll just be plagued. Nothing works anymore.
@@Wisepati I think you’ll love our latest videos. I have a rant about rodenticide misuse. It’s not just the general public who are at fault, it’s the big pest control companies who are usually the worst offenders in the uk. We are going to try to stop them 👍🏼
We are in west london and when we moved into this house 3 years ago there were rats everywhere. I coaxed a family of foxes to live under our decking, not seen a rat since!
@MsMom, I live in rural Australia. Your problem was my nightmare too. The destruction these rodents cause is devastating & costly. I too have used everything I heard of or advertised, only to throw heaps of food & other items on a constant basis. A very old neighbour suggested I mix cornmeal & soda bicarb together, & throw in just abit of sugar, of course I didn't try it as I had spent so much money on poisons, etc & this seemed to 'basic' Frustration with the stinky rats/mice made me try, less than 3 weeks 🤞, they almost but disappeared. This mix is safe on all other animals including birds & is cheap. Rats/mice can't burp/fart, the soda causes them to bloat to death. I've cleaned up any places around/in the house of hiding spots, no food left opened, etc Chicken feed is placed in galvanised feeders, no rodents can get to it & no scraps left on ground. I'm not sure the result for others, but this plain, basic mix has been literally a life saver for us,. Anyone who has had to 'live' with these dirty rodents, you have nothing to lose, give it a go 👍
I worry about rats and Weils disease as I have a dog!!! Not seen any rats in my rural garden but have noted a couple of single rat holes over the last few years ...how do you know if the holes are still being used ? So glad you don't use rodenticids. The septic tanks should have 'dropper pipes' in them on the inlet and outlet, and where you said that the drain was broken and allowing vermin in, was immediately below a fence post...
Rats and mice have always been my phobia and I am just about to purchase my first house (always lived up high in apartments prior) and am very conscious of this particular subject. Also, something I will not be installing is garden decking. Although it can be both attractive and practical, it has got to be one of the biggest attractions for nesting rats/mice. Something I would not install for the sake of minimising the issue. Overall though, the ways you have shown in this video how they can enter the house from outside, it seems an impossible and endless task of totally eradicating them.
Clean daily with pine sol not the cheap version though must be the 💯 percent an pour some around basebords behind stove, fridge mop and clean daily . They will leave they can't stand the smell.
Even if that did work (and we don’t believe it does, if things like that had any scientific basis we would use them) you would still have rats in your walls, floors and ceilings. We hear old wives tales like this one all the time, and as we said above, if it worked we would be using it. Sadly people get mixed signals when using old wives tale remedies. Usually a neighbour has put some poison down or something similar. It then seems like the old wives tale worked….but it’s just bad science. Thank you for your input though. We are always happy to hear ideas. Ps. When we do our Rat Free Lifetime Guarantee for clients they have usually had rats for years and years and have tried every old wives tale there is.
The mechanical trap is inhumane in my opinion.Used them once years ago with massive rat problem and although some rats were killed instantly, some were impaled across the shoulder and were alive ages later in obvious pain.
Why hasn't anyone figured on having the inlet pipe from the house into the cesspit a little higher than the outlet? So that when the outlet backs up to the cesspit and the rats swim in it, the pipe to the house is too high for the rats to reach. it only has to be at least 4, maybe 6 inches...
Great video as always. Just a quickie from one pestie to another. Do you offer a contract for the rat flap ? I offer a twice yearly to check its functioning 100% what's your thoughts ? Cheers
It depends. @goobydingbat1027 Are the rats going in from above ground or are they coming up from the sewer below. If they are coming from the sewer you will fill the sewer with gravel and then cause a blockage and it will cause a build up of poop which is food for more rats. So the thing to do is fill the holes loosely with paper and then fill over the paper with soil. When the holes reappear, is the soil and paper on top of the surface? Or has it just disappeared down the hole. If it’s just disappearing down the hole then the rats are coming from below ground, usually the sewer or drain.
The Rat Flap is the best invention. No need to kill the poor critters. Just cut them off at the pass. If you have Rats in your attic or house the drains/sewers in the first place to investigate. Some Pest Control companies won't even fit them. Far easier for them to keep coming out laying traps and/or poison. You can then provide them with an ongoing revenue stream. And yes I am speaking from experience.
The flap is only as good as the knowledge of the person fitting it though. We go out to houses with 20 year rat problems with flaps fitted everywhere. In fact we have a video coming out in the near future where we show the flaps and the suggested £6000 further work they needed to do as the flaps hadn’t worked. I think you’ll enjoy that video. We really go to town on the quote in the video. The hilarious and yet sad thing was that the extra £6k still wouldn’t have solved his problems! We did though….in 5 hours. 😇✅
Top job. . . Essentially u want to eliminate all access to the house. Out of interest how much would a job like this cost and when u say a lifetime guarantee, do u mean no rats in the house or no rats in the whole of house & lot? Gday from Downunder. Actually, I live at the tropical end and in the country so we also get our fair share of rats. They are most certainly clever and formidable opponents. A very informative video and extremely well presented. We likewise use mechanical traps and inventions to avoid poison due to our fragile environment. Just about to try out the pneumatic traps from New Zealand by Goodnature. Worth a look being that your company is environmentally responsible. It is great to see and your company should be commended for their effort.
@@barsixful They get a reasonable percentage but like many traps, about 1 in 5 needs something extra (maybe technique). From eradication point of view, they are hyped. And no doubt sometines they get a really effective kill.

I agree 99% with you, but, in some situations it is a necessary evil I’m afraid. I don’t think we have used it at all on rats in recent times. In fact take a look at our recent videos on rat problems. I go a bit ranty about misusing rodenticide.
In the daytime do all of these rats go in those boroughs how do I find more than the ones I found thankfully they're not in the house yet but I am trying to prevent them from coming in there. I have a quarter of an acre land.
THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THESE PROPERTIES ARE A BIG PART OF THE RAT PROBLEM......they have made it possible for the infestation, because of leaving all kinds of debris scattered across the entire property.
How do you deduce that from this video?! Our customers were immaculate. The truth is, yes, piles of rubbish certainly doesn’t help, but in reality it’s very rarely the cause. It’s 99% of the time a sewer/drainage problem….as you can clearly see in this video!
Can i ask a sincere question? And do you welcome feedback at all? I'm a new subscriber to the channel and thoroughly enjoying watching your videos on pest control. You obviously possess a veritable trove of knowledge with regards to the craft. And you are obviously confident in your methods and techniques by the guarantee you offer. I've picked up on a couple of things though and would be interested to get your feedback on it if that's ok? You seem quite confrontational in disposition, and often make remarks about the knowledge and experience you've acquired over the years. Do you deal with a lot of negative comments and trolls on this platform? I understand that pest control is probably one area where you get bombarded with ignorant comments. Unfortunately this industry intersects with modern trends around environmentalism, veganism and the usual moral sanctimony that odious people like to parrot because they think it makes them a good person. So any humane dispatching of pests is met with ridiculous outcry. Has that had an effect on your channel and subsequently shortened your patience with people? I just wanted to find out if that was the case because i really enjoy the content. Many thanks
We don’t suffer fools gladly. Why should we? As for the environmentalist and vegans, we hate needless damage to the environment, we also hate those who go around killing for killings sake; and both are illegal to do as a business anyway in the UK. We are the only company in the uk, probably the world, who offer a guaranteed rat riddance service that is vegan friendly. We do this because we can and we have the skills to do it. Christan is as from being vegan as you could get as he lives as a carnivore for months on end, but he supports other people’s choices and loves animals very much indeed. The only bad feedback we get is from other pest control people who can’t do what we do or don’t understand why we do what we do and couldn’t do it even if they wanted to. Is this reply confrontational in your opinion? The only reason we ask is because some people get confused between other people’s being confident in their abilities and beliefs, and somehow find it offensive just because they don’t have the same ability or skill sets.

I've even seen nests made out of the poison!
@@ksgraham3477But I saw portions of poison, deposited by rats. It seems like they hide food for future.
We had about a gallon of rat poison in a plastic tub. The rats ate the tub to get to the poison.
Is that using the vitamin D based products my friend?
What is the toxin?
@@johnmead8437 usually vitamin D in these products.
I think many people are, understandably, mistaking a guarantee of no rats in a house for one of no rats on the property.
But it doesn’t get to the root cause does it. The rats will be back.

Or you can do the same for another ten years ☺️
I’m catching most rats in live traps in the garden 2 neighbours are putting down excessive bird seed etc .

“Not here to kill for killing sake” so true a word pest control is about control and management. As a country boy myself if you got fellow wildlife all is good if they don’t bother you then it’s live and let live. If they won’t move in and impact your livelihood or health then you need the extreme measures.
@geraldevans9782 and lets not forget that legally, in the UK, the least toxic method must always be used first in every instance.
Cooking flour 50% dry mix with plaster of Paris place dry undercover and renew regularly , sets in their guts
Newer vehicles use soy-based wiring insulation which attracts rodents.

My last Boss/Head greenkeeper used to say "there's a mole in the rough at the side of (some green, tee or fairway)" I'd say OK I'll pop some traps in. . . . I'd pop a few traps in looking like they were the business and just leave them (they were in blind holes) ha ha ha ha boss never knew. . . . If the mole came out of the rough/long grass and onto a fairway, green bank or tee . . .
Same here it’s called conditioned learning. Add to that neophobia and they can be a real challenge.

@MsMom, I live in rural Australia. Your problem was my nightmare too. The destruction these rodents cause is devastating & costly.
I too have used everything I heard of or advertised, only to throw heaps of food & other items on a constant basis.
A very old neighbour suggested I mix cornmeal & soda bicarb together, & throw in just abit of sugar, of course I didn't try it as I had spent so much money on poisons, etc & this seemed to 'basic'
Frustration with the stinky rats/mice made me try, less than 3 weeks 🤞, they almost but disappeared.
This mix is safe on all other animals including birds & is cheap. Rats/mice can't burp/fart, the soda causes them to bloat to death.
I've cleaned up any places around/in the house of hiding spots, no food left opened, etc
Chicken feed is placed in galvanised feeders, no rodents can get to it & no scraps left on ground.
I'm not sure the result for others, but this plain, basic mix has been literally a life saver for us,. Anyone who has had to 'live' with these dirty rodents, you have nothing to lose, give it a go 👍

The septic tanks should have 'dropper pipes' in them on the inlet and outlet, and where you said that the drain was broken and allowing vermin in, was immediately below a fence post...
Broken drains allow rats out of the system not in.
Good job we have armchair experts like you about though Paul 😉
Rats and mice have always been my phobia and I am just about to purchase my first house (always lived up high in apartments prior) and am very conscious of this particular subject.
Also, something I will not be installing is garden decking. Although it can be both attractive and practical, it has got to be one of the biggest attractions for nesting rats/mice. Something I would not install for the sake of minimising the issue. Overall though, the ways you have shown in this video how they can enter the house from outside, it seems an impossible and endless task of totally eradicating them.
I wish you lived in New York City, could really use your help!
We are always up for a paid vacation 😎
Buy some better quality traps then 😊
Well, they are rats. Vermin. Pests. Disease carriers. Maybe they"ll be walki g on you while you sleep is you believe they deserve to live nearby???
Why hasn't anyone figured on having the inlet pipe from the house into the cesspit a little higher than the outlet? So that when the outlet backs up to the cesspit and the rats swim in it, the pipe to the house is too high for the rats to reach. it only has to be at least 4, maybe 6 inches...
There’s a million dollar idea for you. 👍🏼

Hi thanks for rapid reply its the doc15 thankyou
Very interesting. I'm on the nuisance wildlife removal side, but it overlaps with rats. This was very instructive. You have a great operation!
Glad you enjoyed it! Check out our playlists, we do lots of things other than rats that you may find interesting.
Great video as always. Just a quickie from one pestie to another. Do you offer a contract for the rat flap ? I offer a twice yearly to check its functioning 100% what's your thoughts ? Cheers
Not a bad idea.
Hi Guys, I have rat holes in the garden, can I just fill the holes in with gravel?
It depends. @goobydingbat1027
Are the rats going in from above ground or are they coming up from the sewer below.
The reason I ask is rats can always take up residence in the outdoor area around the house.

What makes bamboo so loved by rats? Is it the dense undergrowth?
Absolutely. It’s super tough too so stops predators from getting through it but lots of small gaps for rats to slip through, back to their rat holes.
@@PestInterceptors thanks for the response! And usefull info as well. My neighbor has some rats around his chicken coop but can't find the nests. They might be around the bamboo at the end of his property then. I'll tell him to bait up the area so they get comfy and we'll have us a fun night of pesting with the airguns
I have rats under my shed. Spent a small fortune on poison but they just seem to love the stuff. They also somehow manage to remove the food from traps i put down even when i tie it on with string!
Just think of all the other animals you’ve killed by secondary poisoning 🤷♂️
Perhaps it’s time to stop the poison no?
Gave the poison up a while ago and tried the traps. Going to do what i should have done to start with and cover the base of the shed with wire mesh. @@PestInterceptors
You don't have a rattus abundance, you have a feline deficiency.
Since I have had a patterdale terrier I have not seen one rat at my rural home in the Highlands, whereas previously they were certainly very evident.
A fantastic dog.
You will find it can’t get rats that are living in your house wall though or under the floors.
I often think terriers are the kindest solution. Ive never had a dog so I don't know if they need to be trained, but in 'the old days' terrier men would come to your property. Nowadays sadly, teriier men are mostly employed in helping to hunt innocent badgers.
@@helenswan705 we never like to kill anything if we can avoid it, even rats!

There are videos of people who use a rain barrel and a rotating stick with sticking nuts on it horizontally in the middle. The rats goes on the stick, slips, and is caught. He caught 20 or more in one night.
Illegal in the uk. Why would you want to drown any animal anyway?
Oh. And you’d still have rats unless you get the the source.
So should compost be protected with a concrete slab and mesh wire surrounding it on the sides and top?
@@JenMarco the rats would probably just climb in the top.

Then use traps. Most domestic cats won't eat bait and would likely need to eat a fair few rats / mice to get a dose of secondary poisoning. Go check the LD50 and you'll see that rodenticide is not as lethal to cats as a cat would have to eat a GREAT deal more than a couple of rats. And of course, you should check for dead / dying rats when using rodenticide anyway.
@@Cornz38 you shouldn’t be using it at all unless there are no other options.

In amsterdam we have underground containers every 50 to 100 meters in the street where everyone can dispose of his garbage 24-7 there are some rats, because they allso dive for mussels in the canals etc, never seen a rat inside my house. When walking at 5 in the morning you see a rat washing itself by the side of the canal and I think them kind of cute.
All animals have their place.
You sure those rats haven’t been to a coffin shop and gotten the munchies? 😉
@@PestInterceptors I was wondering what rats would do in a "coffin shop" but I guess you meant coffee shop, and I think they might consume some spacecake if they can get it, but jokes aside, there are rats in every neighbourhood in Amsterdam, but because of trashbins which are on stainless steel poles, and the possibility of disposing garbage underground 24/7 people dont have to keep their garbage on balconies, the numbers are far lo9wer than what I've seen in videos about rats in new york which is quite disgusting. Anyway we allso have lots of herons in the city as well as buzzards, so when rats eat too much that they become obese and slow they risk to become dinner. I think outside the city center with the red light district most people don't really mind the occasional rat. Biggest problem is that they make burrows under the sidewalks and cousing the tiles to become uneven. If there is a pest in my neighbourhood it is mice, and the terrible noise they make at night. But even mice leave the house if you dont feed them.

I just discovered mouse " blankets", 6 ft by 15". They can't jump them. I live in the

One thing you can try is to keep the spilled chicken feed at a minimum. There are feeders that only open when the chicken treads on a treadle plate.
When there is very little free food for the rats you can use rat traps in bait stations.
