    This is such an awesome video idea 😊. I am not old enough to have watched them live. But, I have seen clips of them and read about them. I've come to admire them, and I really wish I got to see them play. The first video in your compilation is wonderful and did a great job in concisely discussing their rivalry, skill, differences, and greatness. What I also admire about them is their friendship. They could've had an antagonistic rivalry, particularly how they faced each other in the finals several times, but they have a close friendship.
    Their rivalry was awesome and the 80s is definitely one of the NBA's best decades.
    I am excited to watch more of the videos in this compilation :)
    Have a great day and week, Jonny 😊

    For those that do not know Bird as a passer in his era vs all other forwards ( PF and SF) Bird was #1 in assists per game for 8 seasons!! Bird was #2 in assists per game for 3 seasons and was once 4th. Bird only played 12 seasons and actually dominated his position more so than Magic did = Magic led the league in assists per game 4 times and was #2 in assists per game 6 times and was 4th once and 7th once. Now I still give Magic the edge in passing but Bird was and still is the best passing Forward I have ever seen. Bird was not ball dominant like Lebron and in the Bird and Magic era = if there was 1 dribble = there was no assist! In today's NBA the assist is given out much more easily!!

      @@ATM.FR.5900 Kareem was voted the 1980 FMVP AFTER Magic's great game 6 but because Kareem was not present the voters were asked to change their votes so Magic would win the award. This is covered in the book "Kareem" on pages 140-141. Magic in the 1980 Finals also set an NBA record for turn overs with 30 in 6 games. Magic went to a 47 win team = a playoff team and helped LA win 60 games = a 13 game improvement. Bird went to a 29 win team and helped Boston win 61 games = a 32 game turn around!!!

      They were both liabilities on defense. Both too slow to defend the perimeter and both too weak to stop a decently physical post threat. If they had a bad offensive game, they were basically useless other than rebounding.

    I'm not disagreeing that Larry is an all-time 3 point shooter, but a fun fact that seems impossible is Larry never made 100 3s in a season. His career high made triples was 98. I think a lot of folks believe that he was far more prolific of a three-point shooter than he actually was.

    • @basedlord88
      @basedlord88 11 днів тому

      They didn’t shoot the 3 nearly as much back then, wasn’t like it is now, his best season he shot 42.3% which still holds up as elite today. Curry’s record season was 45% and Hardens #2 most made 3s all time season was 35%, stats get skewed by playstyle. He is not a top 10 3 point shooter all time but he was still an elite 3 shooter especially for the time being

    Hearing about Bird's back issues is really heartbreaking, but it is even rougher knowing that they came because he was doing something great, outside the four borders of the court.
    If Magic could play after 1991 until 1998 or something (longevity of Stockton), he would have the most assists of all time. As he was arguably in his prime in the mid-to-late 80s and 1991, he would IMO get around this assists each season, let's say:
    1991-92: 971 assists
    1992-93: 935 assists
    1993-94: 856 assists
    1994-95: 893 assists
    1995-96: 744 assists
    1996-97: 715 assists
    1997-98: 560 assists
    (YES I TYPED RANDOMLY)
    15.815 passes leading to baskets, just 9 more than John.
    TOTAL HYPOTHETICAL BTW

    I think what many people overlook when comparing Magic vs Bird is the 1985 Finals MVP being Kareem!! In the 85 Finals Magic and Bird kind of cancelled each other out and Kareem was the best player by far of the series. After a very poor game 1 ( the memorial day massacre) Kareem in the next 5 games put up a per game of 28.4 points and 10.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 61%.

    Here's a hot take for you: did Steph Curry change the game or did the NBA change the game?

    • @DrugsAreBadUmmmKay
      @DrugsAreBadUmmmKay 25 днів тому

      The NBA changed the game. Steph was not the '1st of his kind'. Mitch Richmond is just one of many who shot and made a lot 3s. Steph plays off the ball and uses screens like Reggie Miller. Magic, Pistol Pete and White Chocolate were all flashy ball handlers and passers. I prefer Steph over Kyrie but Kyrie is a better finisher in the paint than Steph and he's more clutch in big games. Steph can't be given a single foot of space once he crosses half court though. Dude can knock it down from the locker room.

    • @DrugsAreBadUmmmKay
      @DrugsAreBadUmmmKay 25 днів тому

      Magic didn't play every position any more than anyone else had. Magic was forced to guard forwards and centers because he couldn't guard a single point guard and few shooting guards because he was a horrible perimeter defender due to him having terrible lateral quickness. By the way, he wasn't guarding the best forwards or centers either. He was 'guarding' the guy who he could leave open so he could get rebounds and start the break. LeBron didn't invent that strategy.

      L4-6ron isn't even the best forward (he isn't a forward btw ... he has been a point guard his entire career which he's also not the best in his era) in his own era. Durant is the best small forward, Duncan has that honor at power forward and Steph at point. L4-6ron has a fundamentally horrific 'jumper'(he still leans left after 20 years), sketchy ball handling, pathetic post game, pitiful FT% for a 'star player', trash footwork on both ends of the court, he becomes a statue on offense if he doesn't have the ball, and he quits and complains like a toddler. Did I leave anything out?
