    That's a nice bit of kit , it's time to look at harbor freight seriously.
    Too many technicians look down their nose and it's their loss

    Holy cow, I see the made in USA label on the front bottom left corner. Nice! That is shocking for something from Harbor Freight. Must be a quality unit.

      Don't believe its quality because its made in the USA. Corporations cut more corners in the US than overseas. Problem overseas is the materials being used are substandard and corporations are very aware of this. The labor my be cheaper but they pinch pennies even more overseas and Mexico

    The first one I worked with was the RedLine. Great Machine! Saved a lot of diagnostic time and frustration! Unfortunately, someone "Borrowed" it and I never saw it again. A few years later and I retired.

    Nice machine for the backyard mechanic. Good for testing Evaps and naturally aspirated engine intakes. But what machine you use on turbocharged induction systems? How much pressure is enough for such system.😊

      @@SuperMarioDiagnostics as a 20 year tech, with $150k in tools, I am well aware of the cost of tools. My comment concerning the price was based on similar tools in the market. A quick Amazon search for a smoke machine shows a MR CARTOOL T105, which looks VERY similar to the Icon branded tool and even comes with many of the same accessories. The MR CARTOOL T105 comes in at a competitive $143, before coupon. There is even a T130 model which has the upgraded features that are seemingly missing from this Icon model, such as a flow gauge. Even that upgraded model about $250 with coupon at this time. Seeing Icon/HF is not the manufacturer, I understand the markup, but I still think $500 is a bit much. Harbor Freight is trying too hard to compete with the top tier tool truck brands; so much so that they’re beginning to think that their prices are justified in being inflated also, when the truth is that they’re not. For a rebranded Chinese smoke machine, that can be had for 1/3 of the price, from a comparable brand, I would say HF is reaching a bit here with the price tag.

      @@cccspokesmanandcofounder you mean the t130 that i showed in this channel? An Amazon search is not the same as using them. That t130 will destroy evap system components due to its unregulated output. By that token redline and smoke pros are all unjustifiably expensive. The t130 does not have the same build quality as the icon. I have both

      @@cccspokesmanandcofounder those mr cartool machines you're talking about operate with a really high pressure. id be scared to use that on a customers car where i'm liable. evap systems are full of sensitive easily damaged parts. the icon machine operates in the correct pressure range for safe evap testing. it also has a very sensitive pressure/vacuum gauge (not just the flow ball) measuring in inches of water ( which can be an amazing diagnostic tool in it's own right.) i don't know of any cheaper smoke machines featuring a similar gauge (tho i do see many that pretend but actually have a crude higher pressure gauge.) i've used more then my fair share of smoke machines (of all prices ranges.) this icon machine at $500 seems like the cheapest smoke machine so far that will actually compete with the professional machines at 2-3x the price .

    Nice review. I like that it's USA made. I use the Autolinepro smoke machines. I have the shop series and the new Ventus. The shop series has it's own small compressor so you don't need an outside air compressor and the Ventus does as well and it has a rechargeable battery so you don't need to hook it up to power. For a DIY'er like myself, these both do the job for a decent price. Both are regulated to a max of 1 psi.

      @@JPPerez-tn8xe The Ventus works great for a DIY'er. If you are not using a smoke machine on a regular basis like in a shop setting, they are an affordable machine that works well. I personally like the fact that you don't have to have a separate air compressor to run it.

    This route might be worth it for the accessories if the light and bladder and construction are good quality! I'll have to hook my red Ebay 100 dollar model to my transducer as well, as it is supposed to be similarly limited.

    I really like rhe looks of it as I have been watching for it to cone to my store for a while. I do feel like the $500 price tag is a little high, especially seeing as an external air compressor is required. There are quite a few other options for about a quarter of the price that offer a built in compressor. I do love HF and would consider myself a fanboy, especially of the Hercules brand, but I'm sure that ill wait for their second gen before purchasing this product. Thank you for the overview, I enjoyed the video.

    • @MrLaloman18
      @MrLaloman18 6 місяців тому

      @@SuperMarioDiagnosticsWhat are you talking about, the SDT206 adjusts the rate of pressure going into the evap system, as low as 1 psi. I already fixed plenty EVAP issues with this amazing Autool smoke machine! You want something more precised, then the SDT208 with a dedicated EVAP mode will do. Still cheaper and high quality than the Icon, build-in air pump so it really makes it a true portable (unlike the Icon which needs to be connected to a compressor), high quality parts, oil fill and drain, outputs massive amounts of smoke real quick. Autool automotive tools are build tough!

    • @SuperMarioDiagnostics

      It doesn’t regulate pressure. It regulates flow. If you put it at your “1 psi” and hold the outlet closed, it’ll still push out up to 15 psi. I know because i have two of them
