Considering you were going up hill on a hot day with your a/c on and the possibility of less than ideal gas, that’s probably the reason. If you have an OTS tune maybe consider getting a dyno tune. The tuner can definitely see all those timing tables and where knock events occur. .812 isn’t too bad but if it drops below .500 you’ll be running on wastegate spring pressure for boost so you likely won’t have full boost at that point. If you have e85 around, you might be able to throw a couple gallons in with a full tank of 91/93 octane.
Its usually bad gas. You have to do the same thing you did when it dropped. usually like lets say you did a 2nd gear pull and it is 100 degrees out and it drops. Wait alil bit and do another pull and it should go back to one if temps and gas is good. Has happend to me a few times. Mine has gone to .50 and went back up on its own.
I always throw 4oz of Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank on every fill up just in case. It's 7 bucks for a bottle that lasts me 4 fill ups for a little piece of mind.
I hope it's not too serous brother. I never nodded my Bluebaru 2020 STI. I got rear ended September 12th going home in mission Viejo. I'm good but Waiting for the ladies insurance check to come so Caliber collision can work there magic. Have a great week man Subies forever.
Clear the gauge back to 1.000 see if it happens again if not could have been gas humid temp etc , if it happens again change oil , look at afr make sure your not running to rich or lean
Hey I know it's stressful and annoying but likely the car is fine. DAM drops to protect the engine by pulling timing. You should always be monitoring DAM/Feedback Knock/Fine Knock Learn. After your DAM drops you should see positive Fine Knock Learn meaning it is adding timing back and that's a good thing. It can take a while for it to naturally add all timing back by driving the car. You can disconnect the battery resetting the DAM back to 1.0 and if it continues to drop that would be a sign of issues. It was probably a bad batch of gas and/or the combination of AC going up hill in higher gear.
Does the ECU do these same things on the stock tune? Would that be why somedays my cars feels a bit slower and somedays it feels faster? Because the ECU is pulling timing?
@SonikJesus Yes it will pull timing regardless of tune if the ECU reads knock. The car will definitely be slower when timing is pulled. Best thing would be to monitor the numbers and see what's going on.
It can take some time, depending on the event. Stay out of boost of course and drive it easy and it will eventually relearn itself back to 1.
It's important to monitor feedback knock, fine knock learn and dam. How is your oil pressure and AFR looking as well.
What happened?
