    Very great job Jonah.
    Have same Lexus in Europe. 150k kms. No signs of bad head gasket. Need to keep an eye on it from which mileage?
    Can you share your pdf of the technical manual?

    Why redoing whole head? If just doing gasket

  • @jafinch78
    @jafinch78 Рік тому

    Which gasket kit did you use? Sounds like FelPro head gasket, Toyota VVTi seal and Toyota spark plug tube, though wondering about others if you re-used or replaced. Did you replace the Valve Seals and other oil passage related?
    What all did they have to machine?
    Thanks for sharing that water leak test. Never seen that before. Will try that out with my practice head I got from the yard from a 2011 with 150K.

      Oh, I totally didn't see the description parts listed. Nice, thanks for that! Sucks the cam position sensor connector connection was bad and had to do that. Such is life. That VVTi seal I think has some sort of rod, I need to look into that some more as I noticed some little metal dowel feel out when I pulled the cover off. Thankfully, I didn't lose at the yard, though I recall I think a Gasket Masters video detail to be careful with that. I need to watch that again and verify. Any thoughts?

    How common of an issue do you think it is?

    • @jonahheu
      @jonahheu  Рік тому +1

      Very common issue if you don’t regularly maintain the EGR system which causes most head gasket failures on these Toyota Lexus Hybrid Vehicles. Thanks for the comment 😎

      @jonahheu  Рік тому +1

      Ideally replacing it would be the best option, but it is expensive. Cleaning out the EGR should be good enough too. Just remember there are 3 parts to the EGR system that needs to be cleaned out. EGR pipe, EGR valve, and EGR cooler. Best of luck and thank you for commenting.

      @@jonahheu According to the Car Care Nut channel, (Toyota trained tech with years of experience) the issue is from the constant start/stop heat cycles that come with the transition from all battery to battery/engine. The engine is constantly starting and stopping (cooling/heating) while operating. The early cars had a small thin head gasket area that sealed the combustion area, and that is what fails on the gasket. The new redesigned gasket has that coating over the entire gasket, not just a thin area surrounding the combustion chamber. Look him up on UA-cam to see his detailed rebuild on a CT with the blown head gasket. It's not a cheap, or easy job if you do all the required steps.
