Former Alcatraz Prisoner Returns to Reunite With Ex-Guards

- For three years Alcatraz was home for William Baker. The ex-con returns every year to revisit his past. The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, now a national park, was open for nearly 30 years from 1934 to 1963. It housed some of the country's most notorious criminals, including Al Capone. It was also home to the prison guards and their families. They reunite each year to swap stories from days gone by. InsideEdition.com’s Leigh Scheps ( / leightvreporter ) has more. #InsideEdition

Honestly my favorite part
It’s nice to see he learned his lesson and came out a descent person.
He literally said he was still committing crimes when he left
I thought the same thing. He even made crime his life by retiring from it lol.

Imagine a kid living on the same island with the most dangerous and ruthless criminals
Lulu Harshie today I went to San Francisco and pass alcratrz and under golden state bridge 🌉
I bet criminals back then were a little more curtesy though
@@JamesK7911 no... not at all
Prisoners always had a rule against harming kids and they dont take kindly to people who do.
@@Jamesamong007 Expect one of them prisoner has suitable for kids.
My dad was a guard there from 1956 until 1962... I was born at the old French hospital in SF and lived on the island with my mom and dad. I honestly don't remember very much as I was only two years old when my dad got transferred. But I still have lots of pictures....
I've met him actually, he did a book signing last year at Alcatraz
i’ve met him too in 2017
He did one today too.
He died in 1998, doubt you saw him 😂
@@rabihaahmed um... He published his book in 2013, and I don't think this video was punished before 1998.
@@rabihaahmedI doubt you got that info from a fake website 😂😂
that guard had a hell of a first day at Alcatraz
Just came from alacatraz. William Baker now works at the bookstore at Alcatraz. He is actually a pretty sweet guy. It’s like, for a moment, you wouldn’t think of him as a former prisoner.
I met this guy a couple years ago and bought his book and he signed it wow never thought I’d see him on here
I got it today
*When you meet the enemy you fought years ago* How yA bEeN bOi

When will the ones that escaped return for a visit?
I met Bill when we visited Alcatraz a couple years ago; nice man and I really enjoyed the book. Thanks for signing it for me Bill and for the hug and picture. Great memory!

The day I went to tour Alcatraz I got to meet him and he signed his book for me
Man I would love to know William personally 😂
@4:38 I hope to be like Joan when I'm her age, rocking the colorful hair.
Why can’t some of my family work there Bc that’s a badass story for show and tell 😂
They would probalbly die in riots
I have 2 books on Leon Whitey Thompson now there was a badass. I had the pleasure of meeting him, he signed the 2nd book. I think he lived in Grass Valley, he bred wolves I think. He passed.
He signed my shirt when I was 7
Amazing stories.
I definitely remember studying Alcatraz in high school, definitely a fascinating landmark even if it was a place for the bad, knowing that families were raised there was unreal, I guess it made sense since they were on a small island in the middle of the open ocean! I’m just glad seeing prisoners and guards alike visiting this place even after decades!
When she says come back to the rock 0:44, I think of Dwayne Johnson
I just met this guy today......the nicest guy in the world!
Glad he got out and made his life for the better!
I hope the case of the 3 escapees gets solved some time.
The 93 year old looks 73 and the 89 year old looks 65. Evidently the water there was pretty nice
This is so amazingly cool!!!
So cool
That laugh at the beginning was too funny
The Unsolved Boys ayyy
Reb and Vodka TM Call me Ella lol Ayyy
Got his book signed by him, Awesome guy!
The opening music sounds like FFVI Magitek Research Facility
I read the book Alcatraz #1259, on my trip in USA, me and my wife went out to the rock to check the place out, and it just so happens that Baker where over there signing his book. I talked with him for a while, he seemd like a nice old man. It was pretty cool coz I did meet a part of living american history. With Bakers own word "go out there and meet me before I die".
I'm going to buy a copy of his book...using counterfeit money...
I saw him today
Ghost adventures did a episode of this place 😍😂
Nice
Inside edition got the most banger videos
Did he just say he learned counterfeit in there and said that’s what he did when he got out
Aurhorah 1:00 yes
Crystal clear hahahahahaha
Yep lol 😂
But also he kept getting caught which lead him bac where he started
Good on you mate
I slept there as a Cub Scout it was the coolest thing I’ve ever done
I went to Alcatraz and it was sooo awesome
Open for 30 years?!😱
Meow BlackCat IKR it’s not that long at all!!
Emily Schmidt its is a long time
DeltaOutlaw93 no it’s not
Alexniko I plus the years before the prison on Alcatraz
No it wasn't it's a lie
That’s a cool old man he’s laugh 😂
I met that guy!! I was there when he was! I have a signed book and photo
I'm so glad I survived those days on the rock.
“yeah i retired when i was 78, well quit being a criminal at 78”🤣🤣
As a former CO who In there right mind would want to return to the facility they retired from and recall all there experiences. I hated it and left a state facilty after 10 years
Just because you hated it doesn’t mean everyone else did
thats understandable. most people have no idea what a CO has to go up against. day in and day out. Constant stress. I dont think O would be rushing back
OMG!!!! When I was at alcatraz he was there signing books!
I got to meet William, he was very nice and I got his signature on the book he made
i’ve met this guy and have his booked signed by him!
Wholesome
Younknow if you go through things together and as you get older your prospective changes. Soldiers go through wars and will site down and break bread with the enermy. Would you say thats normal or just a respect for each other. Bravo gents
Once upon a time it was a breath taking place.
Wow I read about this im school it's so interesting im glad I learned this it's in San Francisco
I got the pleasure of meeting Bill at a book signing at Alcatraz
Those who have been in prison and come out and never go back I say a very well done thumbs up
that wasnt these guys though.
One of the best places I've ever been
Alcatraz Alumni, legit sounds like high school
I wouldn't shake their hands and never went back
*Escape from Alcatraz* movie was great! We will never know, whether those convicts dead or alive.
that must be soo scary
I saw Becker when I went to Alcatraz he signed my baseball!
At 1:18 the bird above the logo of Inside Edition clones itself🤣
What a madlad
I'm went to Sherman Elementary School with the kids of the guards on Alcatraz. My first deskmate was Johnnie Lou Ashton. She lived on the island until the Escape and then her father was transferred to Leavenworth. I remember being so devastated that I lost my desk mate.
When you and your childhood enemy run into each other and you actually like each other now.
0:07 but who’s that person drowning?! 😂
Imagine walking with a old man and you ask something and he says he was a prisoner here
I met him there and he signed my book. Nice guy.
thanks youtube for recommending this now, i mean its currently march 14 2021 tho but i guess better late then never
I didn't know the guards and their families actually lived there. I always thought they had to take a boat to the island and then back to the mainland at the end of their shift everyday.
I was there on that day and I got a postcard and the book signed by him!
Shanks through tears of joy
Started reading a book of this
That’s so cool
Just met the guy, he is here signing his book and taking pictures with you. Right on pier 33 where they do tours to the prison.
I went to Alcatraz I didn’t get to go on the island because it was sold out but I went on a boat around Alcatraz it was so so cool it’s so cold tho if you were thinking about going to see Alcatraz you should it’s so so cool 👍🏻
Love it
I went to Alcatraz 2 weeks ago. He was there and signed for me his book, he wrote.
