Waydroid - run Android apps on Linux - tutorial for beginners - September 2023 - 74487818

Waydoid is the best way to run Android apps on Linux. The Android apps must be x86_64 (amd64).

sudo apt install curl ca-certificates -y
curl repo.waydro.id | sudo bash
sudo apt install waydroid -y
Then start Waydroid from the applications menu.
System OTA: ota.waydro.id/system
Vendor OTA: ota.waydro.id/vendor
Android Type: GAPPS
Downloads sourceforge.net/projects/wayd... 860.33 MB.

Extracting to /var/lib/waydroid/images
Press the Done button.

You may want to install to get applications graphically. Or use the Play Store if you installed a GAPPS image.
From the start menu } start Waydroid.
waydroid session start
WAYLAND_DISPLAY is not set, defaulting to "wayland-0"
Wayland socket '/run/user/1000/wayland-0' doesn't exist; are you running a Wayland compositor?
sudo apt install weston
weston
inside of the weston window, open up a new terminal by clicking on the terminal icon in the top left corner.
In terminal:
waydroid session start
In another terminal:
waydroid show-full-ui

ANDROID_RUNTIME_ROOT=/apex/com.android.runtime ANDROID_DATA=/data ANDROID_TZDATA_ROOT=/apex/com.android.tzdata ANDROID_I18N_ROOT=/apex/com.android.i18n sqlite3 /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db "select * from main where name = \"android_id\";"
It says:
android_id|48155661691619333
Use the string of numbers printed by the command to register the device on your Google Account at www.google.com/android/uncert...
Log in using your Google account.
Paste into the field "Google Services Framework Android ID" the number (e.g. 48155661691619333).
Give the Google services some minutes to reflect the change, then restart waydroid.
waydroid session stop # will close waydroid show-full-ui
waydroid app list # confirms that waydroid is stopped: WayDroid session is stopped
close weston window.
weston
Resize the weston window as needed.
Inside weston:
waydroid session start
Wait until it says "Android with user 0 is ready"
waydroid show-full-ui
Sound works, copy paste from outside Android does not work. Show apps is swipe upwards starting from above the Home button as in Android mobile phones.
Outside weston:
waydroid app list
The web browser, calculator, Recorder works OK.
The bottom 3 buttons work OK.
Start Play Store, log in using your Google account.
Install apps from F-Droid.

You may want to install f-droid.org/ to get applications graphically. Or use the Play Store if you installed a GAPPS image.

waydroid app install F-Droid.apk # works from outside weston.
Start F-Droid applications. Says "Updating repositories".

Multumesc pentru tutorial. Daca nu vedeam la tine partea cu play store registration cred ca faceam skip si as fi ramas la problema ca Google Chrome nu randeaza pe VPS. Am instalat duck duck go si acum ma pot loga in timpul testelor de flutter. Keep up the great work!

Is Wayland ensure that you will get the full performance of your gpu or what does it do exactly? + I have Nvidia gpu and you know it's not compatible with waydroid it's self if i used wayland will it get the full rendering performance?

Kali Linux is a Linux Operating System (OS) for "Penetration Testing, Security Research, Computer Forensics and Reverse Engineering". It is not geared towards people that start using Linux. Please do not use exotic Linux OSes that third party software providers such as Waydroid, Microsoft, Google, Docker, Steam etc. do not support. I vote that you use Kubuntu 23.10.
