    Wow. I had no idea sports optometry existed! I knew I wanted to work with trauma patients, but sports optometry combines my love for sports with my love for the eye field. Thanks, Doc!

    Whoa, definitely lots of options and opportunities. Can there only be one specialization, is there a limit? And is each one another year or two?

    • @RyanReflects
      @RyanReflects  8 місяців тому

      No limit, however, its ideal to not do more than 2-3. For example, specializing in ocular surface disease and specialty contact lenses makes sense. Specializing in glaucoma and vision therapy, not so much.

    What about glaucoma specialty? Or specifically working with pilots? 🛩 Any opinions on this?

    • @RyanReflects
      @RyanReflects  8 місяців тому

      You can absolutely specialize in glaucoma. I lumped this under ocular disease but know plenty of ODs that solely focus on glaucoma.
      Working with pilots is very niche. Not sure there is enough work there to make a living but you can absolutely have it as part of your practice specialties!

    When thinking about special areas remember kids are primarily single vision lenses and average much less in sales as adults

    What schools are available for optometry school? I’m having trouble finding undergraduate plans and schools in North Carolina

    • @RyanReflects
      @RyanReflects  Рік тому

      Here is a list of schools and colleges of optometry: optometriceducation.org/about-asco/asco-member-schools-and-colleges/
      You can obtain your pre-optometry requirements at most major colleges and universities.
      High Point University is the only optometry school option in North Carolina.

    Hi just wanted to ask if you know anything about how to get into neuro optometry in the uk. I can’t seem to find anything about it online other than neuro-opthalmology which I assume is for individuals who have taken ophthalmology after taking a 5 year medical degree.

    • @akbarm6415
      @akbarm6415 2 роки тому +1

      I’m interested in optometry as I am a student about to enter undergraduate university but hesitant as I am unsure for the career progression an optometrist can complete in the UK.

      Neuro in both optometry and ophthalmology are very similar in the US (and I’m assuming UK) as most conditions don’t require surgery. As long as you have an OCT, VF and the proper training, you should be able to specialize in neuro-optometry in the UK!

    A good specialty, is to help your children completely avoid entering myopia.
    That is completely possible!
    Do you agree?
    If not, why not!

    • @RyanReflects
      @RyanReflects  8 місяців тому +1

      I agree that myopia control is a wonderful specialty! However, preventing the development of myopia entirely isn’t currently possible.

      @@RyanReflects Hi Ryan,
      Two Ophthalmologists are now preventing myopia in their own 3 children.
      They are using 1% Atropine, and keeping their kids eyes off their cellphones.
      I realize that true prevention is beyond the scope of Optometry.
