  • The Iranian Army has reportedly received the new locally developed Karrar main battle tank (MBT) almost a decade ago.
A video of the delivery of a Karrar tank carried by a trailer truck passing through a road in Khuzestan province was uploaded to the IranDefense on December 3 2023.
The new T-72F tank is a testament to Iran’s indigenous defense capabilities, representing an enhanced iteration of the Soviet-era T-72 tanks, boasting a newly crafted welded turret equipped with blowout panels.
While bearing a superficial resemblance to the Russian T-90M, these tanks are a product of independent Iranian engineering under the Karrar program. The Regular Army (NEZAJA) has received a more cost-effective variant, lacking features present in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps variant such as the remote weapon system.
The advancements in protection are significant, with welded turrets fortified by improved multi-layer barriers. Notably, the inclusion of enhanced reactive armor amplifies the tank’s defensive capabilities.
The upgrade extends beyond defensive measures, encompassing a substantial overhaul of the fire control system. The introduction of thermal imaging sights coupled with mandatory fire control capability marks a notable technological leap. Additionally, modern equipment, including sensors designed to detect laser irradiation, has been integrated.
While the tank previously showcased engines capable of 1000 horsepower under the Karrar program, it remains undisclosed whether these engines are currently equipped in the T-72F or are slated for future installations. The ambitious plan involves modernizing all available T-72M1 and T-72C tanks within Iran.

I believe that the Islamic Republic should cooperate with Russia, China, and perhaps the DPRK to adopt the t14 Armata as a basic AFV platform for these countries, on the basis of sharing the costs and the burdens of development and production...
this approach will contribute to reducing overall costs and allow for large-scale production of the tank and its components that used onboard other armored fighting vehicles and contributing to the launching of upgrading & modernization programs for advanced blocks at a rapid pace...
Fusing technologies, engineering and knowledge from several countries in the production of a main battle tank allows for the development of competencies that master specialization in designing, building, maintaining certain part's and components individually, with international specifications and standards...
for example, the price of the t14 Armata is 12 million of the so called usd based on the Russian army’s acquisition plane of a specific number that does not exceed 2300 piece,
but if it is adopted as a main battle tank for three or four countries that have huge armies and needs thousands of tanks for each country, this will reduce the price to cheaper than the t90ms and solve a major problem related to the Supplying of highly sensitive, high-tech components or the supply chains issues...
the other approach does not stray far from this, but it relies on the Object604 Black Eagle as a basis for developing a main battle tank that is cheaper to produce than the t14 Armata and therefore faster in deployment across Russian ground forces. It should be similar in its general specifications and main characteristics to the abrams tank of what is temporarily called the united states of america and the nasty german leopard a7 tank and later blocks, but with unmanned turret similar in size and dimensions to the previously mentioned tanks...
It will be an alternative to the t90 tank family, which its hull and turret with the MS model has exhausted any potential for growth and development in the future...
I believe that the t90 MS is an excellent choice for the Iranians, at least on several factors, including but not limited to :
1- the level of protection offered by the basic standard composite armor (the armor thickness) and the reactive armor brick's the Relikt (4S23), I do not think that the Iranians manufacturing a reactive armor with the same level of efficiency and effectiveness, although the Iranians came across a number western AFVs equipped with urban warfare packages in Iraq and have been able to seize the components of those heavily modified armored fighting vehicles equipped with additional armor era and Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) bricks, but I do not know whether they transferred those nera and era bricks, Or they was satisfied with capturing only the highly sensitive electronic components...
2- the main gun, whether 2a46-5 or 2a82, constitutes an addition if it provides advanced levels of ballistic performance over its Western counterpart.
3- the newer ammunition fired by those tank
but in general, Chinese main battle tanks, such as the type 99, are better equipped with systems and components than their Russian counterparts, especially multi-channel sighting systems for the gunner and commander (CITV), while the Russian tanks provide better firepower with more capable ammo's and higher level of protection than it's Chinese counterpart...
the side skirts are inspired by the side skirts of the type 69 Chinese tanks and I don't think they provide adequate protection against modern generations of tandem anti-armor munitions, the problem is that the track, the suspension system, and even the wheels need constant maintenance and lubrication, and the level of armor for the side skirts is proportional to the weight, so they must come with certain weights, to allow the field maintenance teams and even the tanks crews to lift those skirts and preform field inspection and maintenance...
regarding the Iranian Karrar tank, I believe that the problems that the Iranians may have faced are among other's:
1- the composition of this composite armor mixture is considered one of the most complex problems when developing modern armored fighting vehicles AFVS, especially tanks because the infantry fighting vehicles IFVs and armor personnel carrier's APCS are mostly constructed from , equation of the weight to the thickness of the standard or passive armor, which translates into the equivalent level of armor behind era and nera armor...
2- stabilization system, either hydraulic or electrical, regarding this point the Iranians have in their arsenal a mixture of heavy western tanks such as the m60 and chieftain and lighter eastern tanks such as the type 59, type 69, t55 and t72, and they manufacture the latter locally for years now with a Russian license, and therefore they can reverse engineer the stabilizer systems and the rotation system of the turret in Western tanks with heavier turrets, these stabilizer systems and the rotation system, then integrated into locally manufactured tanks like karrar...
Our best Wishes to the Islamic Republic Of Iran...

"The Iranian army has reportedly received the new locally developed Karrer main battle tank MBT, almost a decade ago" ??? That doesn't make any sense, it's new but thet they recieved it a decade ago? I'm convinced agencies are using UA-cam to develope A.I. and the result are these rediculous statements that are far to common. UA-cam should have some form of Grammar monitoring.

Fighter jets they bought and helicopters, and Iran still only need to produce some quality BMP like Russian Kurganec or BMP-3 and then they repeated almost all the old stuff with new and better!!! They have already started to produce MRAPs' in several types, they have a whole bunch of drones all appropriation!!!😎🤌👌💪🦅⚔️🛡️⚔️🐺
