He was always a very nice person that had a pure heart. You don't meet many people like him today in this world. He would stay all night at my house and I would stay at his house. When I was 16 my friend and I just left a show in Savannah, Ga. I’m from Savannah but what happened next blew my mind. I heard a song that I recognized but thought to myself that there was no way as I hadn’t heard about this show and there wasn’t rlly flyers anywhere but on the one of hundreds of random bars downtown Savannah. I walk up to the bar with my bud and I find out Daniel is playing upstairs. A huge smile came on my face as I didn’t get to see my favorite style of music very often as I was a kid going to and playing progressive metal at venues all the time. I was 16 and my buddy was 21. I told him to go on up and check out a few songs cause it’s a great opportunity. Once my friend went up the bouncer asked me if I was a fan of Daniels to which I said “big time.” He put his arm around me, walked me halfway up the stairs and said “two songs and then you gotta go, brother.” That bouncer made my night and I’ll always remember him letting me see one of my favorite songwriters.

Danny was my very good friend. We hung out together often. He would stay all night at my house and I would stay at his. His Mom would make us breakfast and lunch. We hung out in his parents basement. When you see him young playing the piano in pictures, I sat next to him many times listening to his songs and played my guitar along with him at that piano. He would draw at a table in the basement and teach me to draw with him. Nothing I drew was ever close to what he could do. He was an amazing artist. He would draw eaten apple cores with a leg. He had the craziest ideas. Eyeballs with wings. We loved it! We thought it was wonderful. Later in life I moved on and when I found out about him being popular I bought his CDs at a record store. When I played them it was reliving my childhood. The songs were the same ones he played for me as a teenager. I heard them all before the world did. I really loved him and he loved me. I went to New Orleans to see him about a year before he passed I think. He remembered it all. I told him I stopped coming over as my parents kicked me out. I had an abusive home life. He never knew that as a friend when we were teenagers. In New Orleans I told him what happened and even in his physiological disturbed mind he said " I will take care of you" He still loved my after all those years. It really touched me. It really hurt me to see my childhood friend go from the person I had known to the state he was in at New Orleans. It made me cry. I wished I could have hugged him and brought back the friend I knew, but the mental illness and medication had took a huge part of him away. I hope when he passed he was made whole and is enjoying his existence in Heaven. He certainly deserves it. Thank you for your comments and appreciating my friend.

I am so sorry that you lost someone as special as Daniel. I recently found out about him due to my brothers and I have been loving his music ever since. I've learnt how to play Walking the Cow, Worried Shoes, Some Things last a Long Time, and many others in piano. His music makes me feel like he understands me. He understood art, he understood creativity and honesty in music. How wonderful it must be to have had Daniel Johnston make a tape for you, you're a really lucky person. He even inspired me to create my own music. It's not as good as his, but the fact that he just decided to grab a cassette recorder and record his own music as a way of expressing himself is so inspiring to me. We need more people like Daniel in this crooked world.
Thank you for liking Daniels's music. As his friend growing up he used to say " We have to beat the working class." His dream was to be an artist. He made it and I was always proud of him for being brave enough to live his dreams.

I feel extremely lucky to own a couple of his drawings, and to have finally seen one of his shows only a few years before his passing.
Priceless.. keep it forever
Really neat, thanks for sharing!
Wow! 😮😍🥰 What a gem 💎 😊
Kinda cool that 'grievances' is on there. Daniel must've been a really cool dude. Whether we get to hear the tape or not, i want to at least thank you for sharing this with us!
Only 35 seconds were needed to get my heart warmed
Tight! Tight! Tight! Tight! - Tuco

That’s priceless now. R.I.P. You chose your friends exceptionally.
People seem to be missing the part where it says "for John Fair"
The world cannot wait for John Fair to pass away, too. The world needs Daniel Johnston's healing NOW. It's what he would have wanted.
May he rest in peace ❤
thanks for sharing this! rest in peace daniel.
godbless.
That's super neat. I saw your comment about it on a old interview of him and had to check to see if you posted a video of it. What a wonder it must've been to be his friend as a teen
Danny was great. He was normal back then with no problems. We had a lot of fun. I was heart broken when I seen him at the Joy theater. He remembers everything about when we were kids but mostly he just sat there with his head down. I think he was medicated.
that is really awesome, that tape is a one of a kind treasure
Legendary rip
A great artist gone too soon.
Hi, John. My John guided me to Daniel, whom I have no previous (or current) background knowledge of. I will be studying up on him for the next few days in preparation of a live clear channel chat with him. Just giving you a quick HI and passing along a special hello to you, as you are a kindred and beloved soul to Daniel. 💕🙏✌✌

"Ballade of a Teenage Acid Queen" is something i wanna listen to badly. No crap this is so ahead of its time
Oh wow!! That's brilliant!! ❤
That’s a very special piece of American song writing history you have there, keep it close.
Thats very cool ❤ Sorry you lost your friend ❤
Thank you, but I will see him again in a blink Jesus said.
Golden.
This is so sweet. You're a great friend
Danny was, He was a true friend.
@@johnfair62 he's now a huge inspiration to me! I found his work 3 weeks ago, now I'm addicted! I'm gonna be getting a chord organ to play some of his classic tunes.
I'd love to hear these songs.
Beautiful
That is so remarkable.. god bless
Hi thanks for sharing. You could do a kick starter or something to have this archived digitally. Share it with the world please!!
Woah! That’s cool! Daniel was such a genius.
John thanks for sharing this. If you would like some help with finding a way to preserve the album since the tape will deteriorate, please let me know I’d be happy to help
If the music was any indication then he was a beautiful person and I’m happy that you got to connect with him in a meaningful way. There isn’t enough of that in life. There never could be.
Danny was a good soul with a good heart. A true friend to the end.
@@johnfair62 Have you got any confirmation yet?
Hello, you left a comment on the Epoxy floor you installed. regarding the clear coat you used.. could you tell me what it was, as I'm using the same product shortly. and would like to put a clearcoat on as well .. Thank you
Epoxy clear coat. That's all it is.
Thank you for sharing .. Daniel was such a beautiful soul. If I owned the r'n'r hall of fame i would be taking the necessary steps to get this tape from you 😂💕
My heart is with you
A true jewel
I knew about daniel for a while, but i never really listened to any of his stuff. Im fucking crying holy shit
Wasn't trying to give you a hard time, just wanted to know more about it. Sorry if I got across that way to you
You didn't other people have for some reason.
Either way, it's amazing to see, and will be very excited if Dick decides to release it. Glad you met up with him too
Nah you probably were trying to give him a hard time stop lying. You were just proved wrong that's it.
what a treasure ❤
