XD This is NOT an out-of-control horse. Sure, the horse was a bit inpatient and had some energy to burn, but the officer handled it quite well, and, by the looks of it, got out this energy by lunging the horse a bit. :)
I saw a frustrated horse with flies on him, not out of control. Police horses have to stand still for LONG periods of time in the heat, rain etc...I thought the officer handled it quite professionally and calmly, kudos to him!
Dude that's just stupid!!! Horses have a mind of their own, just because they're trained doesn't mean they're going to be so calm all the time. They have a wild side to them. It's like if you ride normally, the horse is trained to not freak out when you're on him, and to respond correctly to you, it's like the first time I got bucked off, the horse didn't know any better because he's a horse, he's horsey do horsey things and that's the case here, the horse want to be let go and wants to bolt, he's annoyed, want out of the situation. *says sarcastically* what "horse person" you are.
When you see a horse do that that means they want to be let go and are either gonna freak out or bolt. They don't know any better! And that's not the case, if the horse wanted to graze he would bob his head and move around a little, not go all crazy and start bucking and rearing, now that's just stupid to think. So get you facts right!
there's more signs to rely on, for example someone can be mean when their mad but might not show it, kinda think of it that way. there's much more body language
the horse is upset because he is trying to eat but the reins are keeping him from getting to grass without the bit pulling. my horse tries to pull this all the time. Sometimes I let him eat, if we arent working and just relaxing. But if we arent relaxing he needs to be attentive and focused on me. Some fly spray wouldnt hurt this horse either lol
Ground tie training will stop this. But i agree, this horse is NOT OUT OF CONTROL. a bit frisky. But is frisky not inappropriate for a police horse AT WORK? i think better training is in order. A person who don't know horse behavior might think this is out of control. I guess.
That is what I was seeing also! He was just wanting to eat and could not, and he was getting upset with that. The minute he could reach the grass, he calmed right down! Officers need to learn to read their horses better if they will be riding them!
poor thing is just getting his hair off cuz hes standing there patiently and just wants to nibble on the grass but oh look... the officer put the reins around the saddle horn so he cant. thats all... he was just pissed off that he couldnt eat or itch his legs from the flies
a good horseman would either try to calm him down and keep him relaxed, or would try to find out what was making him like this and fix it, not yank the lead rope a couple of times to see if he would stop and then just let him trot and walk circles around him
I have to disagree. Yanking on the horses face like that repeatedly wasn’t a “good horseman” move. If he had paid any attention to his horse reaching down, trying to eat, he would’ve known taking the reins off the horn could’ve avoided this whole tantrum.
This horse is just frustrated because of the files that are getting on him when he stays still, and also because he is trying to eat, which I think should be allowed when standing still like that, and the reins are catching on the saddle horn and hurting his mouth.
That is nowhere close to out of control! Trust me, I've been training horses for over two decades. The cop should have corrected the horse a little sooner, there definitely was a little mishandling, but the cop was in control (if marginally) the whole time. When the horse was trotting around him in a circle, that was not acting up, that was the cop redirecting him and getting his attention back. Even a cop horse can get a bit riled up in a busy situation like that.
The horse is not out of control. It's likely that it had a bot fly that was laying its eggs on the horse there by further irritating the horse. The irritation started when the horse was on green grass but could not graze due to the reins being on the saddle horn.
hes not out of control. you can see it in the way he holds his head and the way he moves in the trot. hes nervous and doesn't really know what to do about his buddy leaving him. you can see the bay up a head leaving him so he probably got anxious when he left
+Michelle Smyly (Miss Fox) : I refer to those as back boobs. She also has tree trunk legs. She's still young and should work on those before they get worse. The horse and cop did nothing wrong. These fairs require hours and hours of working. Challenging for anybody.
No folks. This is a classic example of a "buddy sour horse". The tail swishing, head tossing, bucking is all a part of a horse having a little tantrum. It's not flies or not being able to eat grass. This horse is trying to say, my best friend is way over there and I don't want to stand here with you. You don't let them eat grass because with the head down a horse can be spooked off (especially this one) and hurt someone like a passer by, the suspect or the officer. Don't believe me? Look how nice the horse stands next to his buddy at the end.
i don't have, nor have I ever owned, a horse. But its really clear that the horse is trying to physically tell his rider that the flies are making him itch and hurt. Horses eat all the time when on grass so he wasn't hungry, he was itchy and sore from flies and being that close to water makes horse flies a lot more persistent. He would of rolled in the dust, had the rider let him paw a dust pit to roll in. Dust helps deter biting insects. Just not for long.
Alyse Ducoat I would like too but we live in the city and with finances being hard as it is now, it would be hard to purchase the fodder and feed for any type of farm animal. I even wanted a cow but its the same issue for that as well. Plus the high cost of vaccinations because they are much larger then large breed dogs, vaccination prices are ranged based on size of the species they vaccinate. Since they have to pay so much per bottle of vaccination.
RedRedRum Actually, annual vaccines aren't really much more than the cost of vaccinating a dog. We've had horses for many years. I will share what it costs to have a horse where we live, and how we do it. The biggest cost is really boarding (if you don't have property zoned for horses). We live in northern Los Angeles county & get a good deal--we only pay $250 a month board for one of our horses, and the other, Teddy, since I buy "special food" for him, I get a hay allowance of $70 a month, which is what it costs to feed wholesale alfalfa to a horse per month. So I pay $180 for Teddy, then I buy his timothy grass hay, which runs $150 a month to keep him looking good. He has redundant bowel, so he needs soft grass hay so he doesn't get constipated and get his colon irritated by stalky hays. Also, we lease a large paddock for $75 a month for our horses to be turned out in during the day so they aren't locked in their 12'x24' stalls all the time. And fly spray! That's a good $30 per month for fly spray liberally every day during fly season. They also get their hooves trimmed every 7 weeks at $60 per horse. They don't need shoes. Then there's bedding for their stalls, about $30 or $40 a month. And fly spray! Oh yes they need it in summer for sure, about $30 a Then there's the supplements; vitamins, joint supplements, hoof supplements, salt and electrolytes and a handful of carrots all mixed into soaked shredded beet pulp. Plus they both get arthritis medicine, which is about $150 each horse and lasts for about 6 mos. Every year they get vaccines and their teeth done, it's about $300. Then hope you don't have any colic or other vet bills!! You can say it costs about $400 a month and up for an urban horse owner...if you don't have your own ranch and grazing.
+Italianiceisnice : For LA county that is pretty inexpensive! Does the stable you board at allow people to rent a box stall? I'd provide my own bunk and own food and beer...
I know that it was the flies bothering him. But it surely looked like he enjoyed the music playing in the background. Like let me go, I want to go to the party too. He also looked like he was prancing to the music in some parts of the video.
lol cute horse being a stinker cause his pal horse was pretty far away and he was being pestered by a ton of flies or maybe wasps...the officer did a great job keeping calm and that was nice of the lady to collect his items=)
I noticed that in the comments a lot of people were saying that the horse just wanted to eat some grass. This is not a good idea as city grass has been sprayed with chemicals and has also absorbed toxins from car exhaust. Allowing the horse to graze also redirects his attention away from his rider and his surroundings, thus he startles more easily from horse-eating plastic bags and other frightening and dangerous objects such as baby strollers or bicycles. This animal needs more arena work. Rookie horses can be hazardous to the public. I've been around horses for 60+ years so I think I have some idea of what I'm talking about.
The Ofcr and his partner were already stopping a person on the boardwalk. The ofcrs on the white horse was called over by two young girls that complained the suspect was committing lewd acts on the beach. When the ofcr called the suspect over, the suspect dropped a switch blade knife to the ground. The ofcr was waiting for his partner to arrive before alerting the suspect that he knew he had thrown a knife. The horse was being bit by flies but the ofcr couldn't take him off the grass because he needed to keep an eye on the knife so no one would run off with it. The reins were on the horn to prevent them from falling over the horses head causing the horse to step through the reins. Also to prevent the horse from eating anything that may be toxic to him on the ground. At 2:25 the ofcr decided he had no choice but to retrieve the knife himself and order the suspect to walk toward his partner. Because his horse was still agitated he chose not to walk him across the busy boardwalk were someone could be injured. Instead, he found a small clearing to lunge the horse to get rid of the flies and to calm the horses mind before mounting and riding through the people. Ground trying could have allowed the horse to bolt through crowds of people and traffic causing a dangerous situation. This horse does not need more training in fact this horse was ridden by the Chief of Police twice in the Rose Parade. So if you guessed Flies you were correct!
He had bug's and through the tantrum cus if he was exciteded to stand still and get bit he would eat some grass but he couldn't reach it note he colmes down as soon as the cop let's him get a bit
This horse isn't "out of control" as in bucking and rearing, he IS out of control as far as his behavior in the presence of the officer. He should be standing still except to move his tail or raise his leg to ward off flies. It doesn't matter if it takes 30 minutes to write the ticket. He is pushing the officer around and going into his space disrespectfully. Horses can be perfectly relaxed standing still in one spot.
the horse is not out of control, there are a couple of reasons why it could be like this. 1.the flies could be annoying him 2. he hasn't had enough training3. the reins are yanking when he tries to graze4. hes had to much grain5. he has been in a tight space for a long amount of time; my horse had to be kept in a decently small yard( enough for him to trot 8 strides) while a paddock fence got rebuilt, and when I next rode him, he did not want to stand still for anyone, then I let him out into the paddock and he galloped for about 7 minutes(it is sometimes usual for a horse to do that, but my horse is 24, so not usual for me)6. he is a young horse7. he could also be feeling pressured or nervous if he is new to the job
If you watch closely, this horse at :48, picks up what appears to be a round cup top (which was probably from a sweetened drink) and plastic straw, than eats the straw. The officer in charge doesn't even appear to notice it, let alone the flies. I wonder what happened to this poor horse...
This horse isn't out of control The flies are just bothering him. And he didn't like the hard yanking in the mouth because it's hurts it's pretty logical.
So, umm.... the thing about the guy in red ditching a switch blade in the grass at a public event was just totally cool, huh? No problems here, officer, nah, we just gonna just let some 3 year old kid trip over it.... ....and no, that horse was not out of control....
Red fakir was messing with the horse's brain so that he could drop the drugs, fortunately Super Vigilant Kop was able to understand it and had it all under control and save the planet. We love you SVK
I think your "interpretation" of a "wild, crazy horse" is very different for normal people, who have spent at least a little bit of real time with, or learning about a horse. It still baffles my mind that there are so many stupid people who post about horses and still think that the horse is crazy or mean. Educate yourself a little bit more about horses, and you won't have people telling you your obviously wrong here.
I get why he's hitting the horse with the rope. The horse is 10x bigger, but in eyes of someone who know nothing about horses. It looks like horse abuse.
The horse was obviously irritated by something. My guess would be the flies also or even maybe something to do with his tack. He is having a problem of some sort. Hopefully the officer, when he was finished, was able to work it out.
horse is upset cause he cant get to the grass, and something his biting his knees. you can see him twitching them as well as he chews at them quiet a but also the man was not smooth or concise with how he worked. the horse isnt really sure what the officer wants him to do. all in all this can get dangerous fast
Did anyone notice the Bay being ridden away during the video? It's clear that this little App has a bad case of attachment issues to other horses, has trouble standing still for too long, and doesn't respond well to being told no. Not the best candidate for a police horse. Would make a better Game day horse if you ask me :)
How thick is this officer who fails to see something flapping on the horse's back. Also earlier the rein was preventing horse from cropping some grass. He was not out of control ! 🙄
not out of control, bothered by flies but he's telling you what he wants - to graze and then he paws the ground and turns to bite his girth band so he wants his saddle off and a nice roll. he's asking very nicely - mine would have just gone and done it. i don't know how much turn out time he gets off duty, perhaps being on soft turf and grass isn't something that happens very often.
This horse was just frustrated by so many people and the heat and loud nioses, it's almost as if the person who posted this is trying to show how bad horses are, and thats fucking awful, horses are great
That's not the horse that is out of control. But a jerk out of control. If only this police officer knew to never let the reins on the saddle horn, that would probable never happened. The horse is just frustrated about not getting grass and flies. Plus, the officer would need some handling lessons. I feel like watching a kid manipulating a horse.
Tamy ,,how many potentially dangerous suspects have you dealt with while handling a horse? if the reins weren't over the horn, the horse would bend down to eat. the reins could then fall over the horses head. The horse could then step through the reins causing the horse to panick and either break the reins or break a leg. The man the officer is talking to hand a knife that he through to the ground. you can see the officer pick it up.
Obviously the horse was upset about something. My horse gets like that when he either needs food or more water. Could just be nerves too. Fairs are loud and very chaotic.
I feel for that poor cop. I know what it is like trying to write with something tugging on my arm. I also feel for the horse. So boring to just stand there. And that grass over there looks yummy. I bet he has probably had the thought that motorcycle cops don't have those problems.
In my opinion it was the police mans fault. Should have allowed the horse a slacker rein so it could nibble on the grass, they have a tough job these horses, they should at least be allowed a small break even if it is just while the rider is busy with a ticket. Also the tugging on the lead rope didn't help either.
what I saw, is a horse with much energy, bothered by flies and bored out of his mind. And perhaps a little disrespectful to the officer. After all, the horse did press in on him a little. But nice how the officer knew that the horse just had a lot of energy and took his time in 'lunging' him a little.
Travis Thommen The horse was irritated and very bored, also the flies were annoying and the fact that when he tried to graze, his jaw was wrenched open by the curb bit. Control is not all that matters. Horses are intelligent, emotional beings. You have to make sure they're comfortable and happy.
I wonder what Mr.Fancy pants did to get arrested? and the horse was not freak'n out I think it was being bothered by flys and all the activity that was going around there.
this policeman is not paying attention to his horse, all it's body language is screaming biting flies, and he's yanking it round.. where is the horse sense?
No no no the horse was not out of control he just wanted grass while he was waiting but the reins wouldn't let him because they were connected to the horn so it limitated how far he could put his head down he got frustrated with this and started going in circles and acting frustrated the officer didn't notice this and started yanking on the lead rope and the reins to calm him down this made the horse more frustrated and caused him to start bucking and then the people started cheering thinking it was just funny and the horse got even more frustrated as soon as the horses rains came down he settled down and ate grass simple as that
XD This is NOT an out-of-control horse. Sure, the horse was a bit inpatient and had some energy to burn, but the officer handled it quite well, and, by the looks of it, got out this energy by lunging the horse a bit. :)

the horse is not out of control, there are a couple of reasons why it could be like this.
This horse isn't out of control
The flies are just bothering him.
And he didn't like the hard yanking in the mouth because it's hurts it's pretty logical.
The rider is to blame here, he hooked the reins around the pommel and its stopping the horse from grazing...it can't reach the grass !!
I'm impatiently mad. Some horses hate standing still.
Write a man a ticket for no reason, and your horse goes wild... karma
So, umm.... the thing about the guy in red ditching a switch blade in the grass at a public event was just totally cool, huh? No problems here, officer, nah, we just gonna just let some 3 year old kid trip over it....
....and no, that horse was not out of control....
The horse was frustrated because when he was trying to eat the bit and reins were getting in the way
Red fakir was messing with the horse's brain so that he could drop the drugs, fortunately Super Vigilant Kop was able to understand it and had it all under control and save the planet. We love you SVK
oh wow. hope that wasn't the thing the horse picked up and ate!
That horse is clearly not ready and that cop isn't, either. Both need to go back to horse school.
This looks like the beach on GTA V.
Flies. And bit. Any horse rider whose horse acts like that needs to know what causes it. It's simple horse riding
Don't they have sprays for horses to keep the annoying flies off?
Thought for sure all his stuff would be stolen. Such a nice lady
This officer dropped his ticket books like half a dozen times🤔
A little late on this but note a lesson here ..never have the lead rope around your wrist ! If horses takes off you will get drug by the horses
He's just high/fresh after he let him lunge a bit he was fine
The flies are driving him mad 😟
If you were getting chewed up by insects, and could not get away, you would be out of control too. Get some fly spray.
Wonder if the horse stepped on a anthill? Looked like something was really bothering his legs.
They don't have hands to brush the flies off so the stomp their feet to try and shake them off.
He is just getting impatient
How thick is this officer who fails to see something flapping on the horse's back. Also earlier the rein was preventing horse from cropping some grass. He was not out of control ! 🙄
probably plagued by horse flies, poor horse!
Poor horse . :(
Why didn't the cop see what the problem with the horse is?
No horsemanship.
My dream job... But...in my country doesn t exsist that kid of police units.
not out of control, bothered by flies but he's telling you what he wants - to graze and then he paws the ground and turns to bite his girth band so he wants his saddle off and a nice roll. he's asking very nicely - mine would have just gone and done it. i don't know how much turn out time he gets off duty, perhaps being on soft turf and grass isn't something that happens very often.
What is he doing? That's not how you treat a horse!!
This horse was just frustrated by so many people and the heat and loud nioses, it's almost as if the person who posted this is trying to show how bad horses are, and thats fucking awful, horses are great
This horse is getting bitten up by bugs.P.O. needs to spray the horse with fly repellent.
The policeman needs to go to school to learn more about horses
we never let a horse eat under tack.
most ppl do, you should, it's not fair not to, I won't tell you how the run things
This horse isn't out of control maybe if it had flyaway on it wouldn't be swinging its head everywhere. It's obvious the flies are bothering it
That animal is getting bit by flies. It hurts!
That looks like a young green mount an not a very good mounted Police Officer!👎🥴
I'd say he was been pestered by four or five horse flies
I still don't like eating with a bit in his mouth and that he didn't stay calm at work. He wasn't in control .
Travis Thommen The horse was irritated and very bored, also the flies were annoying and the fact that when he tried to graze, his jaw was wrenched open by the curb bit. Control is not all that matters. Horses are intelligent, emotional beings. You have to make sure they're comfortable and happy.
the frustrated horse has been swallowing a plastic thing😨😨 and tried to spit it out‼ - this policewasnt showing any attention😡
I know absolutely nothing about CA but do they have ants?
I wonder what Mr.Fancy pants did to get arrested? and the horse was not freak'n out I think it was being bothered by flys and all the activity that was going around there.
And no he was frustrated not excited he was stomping and toss in his head and switching his tail at flies which frustrated him
this horse isn't wild this isn't uncommon he was covered in flies and wanted them off
this policeman is not paying attention to his horse, all it's body language is screaming biting flies, and he's yanking it round.. where is the horse sense?
liz Copeman maybe he was focusing on the sexual assault suspect that just threw a switchblade on the ground. Priorities
lol..Everyone is a horse expert, just ask them, they will tell you
No no no the horse was not out of control he just wanted grass while he was waiting but the reins wouldn't let him because they were connected to the horn so it limitated how far he could put his head down he got frustrated with this and started going in circles and acting frustrated the officer didn't notice this and started yanking on the lead rope and the reins to calm him down this made the horse more frustrated and caused him to start bucking and then the people started cheering thinking it was just funny and the horse got even more frustrated as soon as the horses rains came down he settled down and ate grass simple as that
That's not out of control. He's lunging the horse. Lol
