Brilliant. I was in a "mambo? rumba?" situation only a few weeks ago with a saxophonist I admire but had never played with. I faked it ok, but would have really enjoyed having this lick to pull out on demand. Thank you for the lesson here!
...I am preeeetty sure I'd make that beautiful drum set sound like crap...unless them drums play themselves🤔 I really like the light of that 'NOLA-drumming torch' You're carrying Stanton. I mean that torch has travelled a loooong road through milleniums literally in good hands of all colours. Thanks for sharing, it's careing☯️🏳No flags, one love, one God.@@stantonmooremusic

Hi Stanton, I' m a Drummer for different Stiles and in Bands for 30 Jears in Germany and I discovered your great Channel much too late. Thanks for your great Inputs and for sharing your knowlege. I cant wait to try this cool Mambo👍👍🙋🏻♂️
Fantastic! More like this please!! Could this be morphed into that family of grooves that includes Ray Charles' What'd I Say? Those double toms seem like they're related to the double tones of various conga patterns. Another thing that would be cool to hear your take on is how congas were used by the Meters, and who in NOLA used them first, and how "hand-to-hand" differs from the "manoteo" Cuban approach, and especially how the drummer changes and adapts when there is or isn't a conga playing on the gig. Still waiting on the edge of my chair for "Groove Alchemy II". Your "morphing" approach in the priceless first volume has been the most valuable single thing I've found as I've devoured all the drum education resources that are out there.

Check out Ringo on The Beatles’ first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964. Not exactly what Stanton’s demo-ing here, but a hybrid version. Interestingly enough, Ringo leads all of his fills with his left hand, but plays all his groove patterns leading with his right hand - including this one! ua-cam.com/video/f-D0-jvOF1k/v-deo.htmlsi=pW5dac8qbwEQYqDE

why muffle those great sounding drums?
Funny, but some of the people I work with think those drums are tuned too open and should be muffled more. 🤣
