    Austin, thank you. I have run this process a few times now, however, your 'off the cuff' comment about "if your boot gets stuck here, it is your OSK, ask me how I know" pointed me in the right direction, removed the spaces from the OSK and I now have a working MacOS Monterey on Proxmox 7.2.

      Well - you can always Hackintosh bare metal with OpenCore - but that OT here - the point of this video is using a VM to do it instead.
      Which has many advantages compared to bare metal...i.e. it will run no matter what GPU you use.
      ...and you can run multiple instances using one machine!

      I haven't tried virtualizing with TrueNAS scale yet so I can't comment on why you can't change the mount type of the ISO. There is almost 100% certainty this is why you can't see the install option

      @@austinsnerdythings2542 For posterity I did figure it out. There was a different device type called Raw that you could add to a VM and point to an image that treats it as a disk I was not aware of at first. Changing it from a CDROM device to that (Raw/AHCI) made the install MacOS option appear! I was able to finish installation from there and the Monterey VM works great in TrueNAS Scale.

    So, I am a total scrub when it comes to VM's. I was looking to try and get this to work and I had a few questions before I got started , just to make sure I don't miss anything.
    So, to setup and install proxmox, I need to put it on a flash drive and then install it to the drive that I am going to be putting my OS on? Example, I have a 16GB flash drive and an external 250gb SSD. Do I flash Proxmox onto the thumb drive and then install everything to the SSD or do I put proxmox directly onto the SSD? Getting proxmox up and running is really the part that I seem to be stumped on the most. I am used to using VirtualBox for VM's and this process is a smidge different. I just want to make sure I am doing it right so I can get this working correctly.

    • @austinsnerdythings2542
      @austinsnerdythings2542  2 роки тому

      Generally, Proxmox works best on internal drives. You can install it on external, but that implies you have another OS running on the same computer. It is also possible to do nested virtualization. I have run Proxmox as a Windows Hyper-V guest VM and virtualized inside that.
      Can you clarify why/how you want to do an external drive? Dual booting is tough to set up correctly and can result in total loss of data.

    • @nostalgiacade
      @nostalgiacade 2 роки тому

      Mainly because I have a ton of external drives and I wanted to see if it was possible to put Mac OS on it and be able to use it when i'm sitting at my desktop but also be able to unplug it and take it with me so when I'm on my Linux laptop, I can still boot into the OS.
      I'm pretty new to VM's and especially virtualization so I wasn't 100% sure if this was something that could be done or if it would just wind up causing problems in the long run.

    • @austinsnerdythings2542

      It is a licensing issue. You can find the key on the internet (I did, and Apple messed up and put it a court filing - it isn't too hard to find). It's the same for every Mac. The MacOS license states that you shall not use it except on legit Apple hardware. If you aren't worried about that, then you should have no problems. You won't be able to install it on your Windows laptop, unless you have Proxmox running virtualized on top of Windows via Hyper-V/VirtualBox and plan to virtualize MacOS within that (double nested virtualization). I don't recommend that - it'll be very slow.
