    Would love to rig up something like that with a stationary steam engine. I can see an off grid situation where one could use the wood or coal cook stove to fire a boiler and have various PTO operated gizmos like the grinder, mixer, etc.

    The rpm’s on that auger are high. Was there a calculation done to determine rpm speed? I’d like to see what it actually does once you start dropping meat in it.

    most motors, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 hp they all turn at 1725 rpm !! its a standard speed! that motor isn't cheap either, when its new! Grainger's has a full line. the motor I will bet costs more than the grinder!! and a tray on the grinder would nice, and stomper too!! a guard would wonderful, u don't want to grind up ur hand in it !!

    It turns too fast, the meat will heat up and I think it turns upside down, in principle you have to turn the crank clockwise and when you look at the die (or grid) the knife turns clockwise counterclockwise.
    As far as I know, all choppers run like this.
    Otherwise good electromechanical assembly.

      @Erklzanderz 3 роки тому

      most definitely! It should be operating at about 80 rpm but is operating currently at more like 300-400 minimum. This machine is going to bog down or at the very least squeal like crazy when putting any real meat in there. 400lbs per hour....HAHAHA...no way! Add some gear reduction pulleys and you may be able to get above 5lbs per minute or so I'm guessing.

      @nbreeze5339 5 років тому +1

      Go to Blocklayer.com and you can pull up a pulley calculator. I too am running a 1725 RPM 1/4HP and I had a 1.5 on the pulley maybe going to a 4.5 pulley on the grinder and it was giving me about 500 rpm per calculation. Way too fast!!!! It was making it rain ground beef!!!! I'm able to look at some pulleys now and key in the diameter and known values for a new RPM. I'd like to get it down to 100 or 150 rpm. The machine is going to out run the person and you don't want someone moving fast around these and make a mistake. Have some fingers in you're ground beef.

      @@vicdeldiyprojectsandadvent6123 And its nice. Don't get me wrong. Not criticizing. I made one recently and did not have a large pulley. I found a website called bricklayer. It had a calculator to determine RPM with the pulleys diameter and motor RPM. I was just under 700!!! Talk about taking you'r fingers off. It also gets bogged and clogged at those speeds because of more speed vs torque. I ordered a nice deadman style foot pedal for less then $20. No wiring needed. Its a simple 110 plug. I want it to stop as soon as I step away. I could not live with my self if a kid or Mr.Snuggle's the dog put his snout in it while it was running and I stepped away. I also hear that keeping the meat nearly frozen helps from making meat paste. I made some pork paste at 695 RPM's!!!

      @vicdeldiyprojectsandadvent6123  6 років тому

      Total price will vary for each person, If you have a motor and the meat grinder already, that is the majority of the expense. If you are a good bargain shopper it may be worth building. It is a very powerful grinder, and I built it because the grinder has sentimental value to me. The grinder sells for about $65, the 3/4 hp farm duty motor costs about $200, but I found used for $75. Nuts, bolts, hardware, belt, foot control about $90. The wood and and protective belt cover was material I already had. I also spent an additional 75 to $100 on additional Accessories, funnel and meat pan, stomper pans etc. It is probably cheaper or at least same price to buy a home quality grinder, but if you take pride in building quality things yourself, it is a great project that will last for many years of fun and satisfaction.
