I was fortunate enough, in November 1965, to be the in-studio supervisor for the debut single recording by a band from Bellingham, WA, which featured, among it vocalist, an amazing girl singer name Kathi McDonald. The band, The Unusuals...the recordings: "I'm Walkin' Babe" (of which I am the songwriter) and "Babe, It's Me", featuring Kathi in a duet with Laurie Vitt (Panorama Records). Kathi also sang background vocals, along with other band members, on "I'm Walkin' Babe". I was amazed then, and I continue to be amazed by Kathi's vocal chops! Touches by soul like few others. This particular vocal by Kathi, with Long John's band, brings tears to the corners of my eyes simply by the outrageous beauty of Kathi's voice. She should have been a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame caliber singer celebrity. She was soooo good!
First time seeing/hearing Kathi, while I was working and stopped in my tracks when I heard that voice, saw that red dress. She was surely blessed with that voice.
I've heard of Baldry but this is literally my first time viewing any of his music. His video followed some Jeff Beck videos, but Lord, who is the guitarist on the solo?
OK, I knew that Long John was gay - he's the "someone" in Elton John's "Someone Saved my Life Tonight", who did so by counseling Elton that a gay man could indeed be properly loved. But I didn't know he was trans. EDIT: This is not Long John. She sounds great but totally unlike him, and has GOT to be a biological woman. Turn out this is actually Kathi McDonald singing with Long John's band.
