    I just came upon these, wish they were still being done, as they show layouts I've always loved in magazines. And the very idea ANYONE would try to represent horseshoe curve in O scale, and doing a great job, is mind-blowing for a room smaller than an airplane hangar

    I am impressed by the studious, smart CALM and serenity of reporting their skills and experience in this entire video which is an EYE OPENER for me. I am tremendously impressed Mr. Terrance by this compendium of talent and expertise. I have always wanted an O Scale and looked down upon it as clunky. O Scale has come a long long way. I had always thought that I would have to accept three rail to enjoy O. I was so wrong and now I feel left out and now left with the delicate beauty of enjoying HO scale. This video has been tremendously enjoyable for me. I am very grateful for what you have reported here. You have reported on great American craftsmanship and... it's a reporting of modeling the American past. From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU SO MUCH! arthur (Ngai)

    Great layouts, modelers and photography! The interviews and questions were well rhought out . You let the modelers do most of the talking. The discourse from the modelers was relaxed and informative. This is the best interview series on model railroads I've ever seen. I think the reconstruction and movement of the legacy layouts had to be much more challenging than that modler was willing to admit. I have seen that kind of effort fail on more than one occasion. One example that fauled was on saving a section of John Allen's G&D.

    I had to move after 26 years living in the same house and invested many hours and of course dollars in my 4th layout. I now live in a large house, but unfortunately only a small spare room for a small layout, build an out building or join a club. these two rail o scale layouts take me back to my grandfathers layout when i was growing up. i think it would be great to find a club to work on something like this. All I know is I can't just leave the hobby behind and it breaks my heart to rip apart what I've created.
    Great video!

    Terry, thanks for putting together and posting this video. Very inspiring and interesting to see the different O scale layouts. I found the discussion on how O scale doesn't have to be expensive or take up an aircraft hanger size space interesting. Looking forward to more of these type videos in the future. Cheers, Kevin

    I am very much 'hooked,' on these new MODULAR-sized units: I'm sorry I can't remember the name which is used, but I'm planning on a new full basement railroad: now, I'm going to build it modular - I'm not building a basement railroad, such that it can't be moved. I don't know the future, but this modular construction idea, inspires me. Building 2' x 8' modules, to the new height standard, makes me feel that if I move again, then I can pack up and not lose the hours and time I have put into the layout. This is an excellent video: thank you.

    I remember going to a hobby shop and looking at some O scale 2 rail track and thinking,,,, something is missing. I have lots of Lionel trains.
    About 15 years ago I dismantled an O scale 2 rail layout to the northwest of Stillwater Minnesota. All the tracks were hand laid and hand spiked. The builder of it had passed away and it was left there until his wife died. Then her sister got the house and had me remove it. What a job it was taking it apart and getting the bench work down the stairs. I still have the unfinished turntable, some cars from kits and part of his RR photography collection.

    The third modeler talking about "the next time he plans on being house bound for a long time," freaked me out. I know this was 2016 but talking like that almost sounds like we knew a pandemic was coming or something. What an eery thing to say. If only he really knew the magnitude of housebound-ness we'd all experience in 2020. God I wish I had my own layout. 2020 would've been way less crap.

  • @ChargerusPrime
    @ChargerusPrime 3 роки тому

    Boy I wish someday I could have the legacy layout.. My grandma has a massive steel building she's planned out just to let me do my 2 rail O scale kingdom. Of course my layout will be modular so as to allow for transport to shows if I choose to bring an area or two of the layout to a big show like at DFW for example.

    • @2railoscale
      @2railoscale  3 роки тому

      Thank you for your kind comments. Modular is the way to go - take it from someone who just had to dismantle a basement-filling layout and could not find a suitable basement to put it into. My advice is build your layout, don't delay, you do not know what the future holds. I put off finishing my layout and then was hit with a disability that prevents me from doing so. Don't live with regret.

"I don't want to hear the narration" or "I can't hear the narration". I do the best that I can. My latest videos are shot with 2-3 cameras running. The narrations are recorded with studio-grade microphones and mixers. The next video that I will post is going to be a revisit to Rick Wright's outstanding 3 rail layout. • @2railoscale
      @2railoscale  4 роки тому

      Traditional O Scale uses a gauge of 1 1/4 inches which is 5 feet in quarter inch scale. Proto 48 uses the correct gauge of 4' 81/2" (1.177). But more importantly, P48 adopts an ethos to model with higher fidelity and fewer compromises.

      You don't have to buy brass or the high-end resin models assembled by a famous craftsmen. An Intermountain kit boxcar typically goes for $25 and builds into a nice car. The same car, factory built, goes for, typically, $40. Also, even on OSCALEYARDSALE you have to know who are the dealers who are selling at a a profit. Patience will reveal the guys liquidating a collection. I hardly consider myself rich, but I have amassed quite a collection.
