Your wording of "the screw with the spring inside" saved me a trip to the gunsmith. My spring popped out while reassembling the yoke/cylinder assembly and I didn't know where it had come from. THANK YOU for the excellent video !!!
Thanks very much for your excellent video!! Your meticulous instruction and occasional tips eliminated my fear of disassembling and reassembling my Smith & Wesson 626 .357 Magnum and Smith & Wesson 629 .44 Magnum Revolvers. They do need a thorough cleaning every 500-1,000 rounds. Thanks again!!
Very good detailed demonstration. I promise you make it look much easier than it is for me to do it. I actually got about 20% finished then had to call in the professional to finish the reassembly. Looks like more practice is necessary. To anyone out there thinking that they can do this on the first try I wish you all the best luck in the world.
I wish I had known about using a phillip screw driver to put in the rebound spring like you did. For years getting that spring back in has been hell for me. Thank you for showing me an easy way to do it with a common every day tool!
that was an awesome video my Smith and Wesson model 629 classic talo edition jammed really bad yesterday at the range with two live rounds in the cylinder. it was jammed so bad i couldn't open the cylinder. I called Smith and Wesson customer service and they told me that I can't send it to them with the live rounds in the cylinder. After watching your disassembly and reassembly video I was able not only to repair my gun but also determine that it was the ammo that jammed the gun thank you so very much
Thanks for this video. Mike Jack can you post a video of how to install the hand tension spring? Explain how it is positioned in the trigger and how to position the hand to get the spring installed correctly. A great number of people would greatly appreciate it!!!!
Very, very well done and informative video. Thank you for sharing your experience. I will watch these two (disassemble / reassemble) videos as a new 686 owner. Do you use a ultrasonic cleaner?
+Andy Ostertag Thanks, I'm glad you like my video, congratulations with your new 686, it is the best revolver.I clean the old way, it's my hobby to clean guns and I use hours to clean 1gun.
+Mike Jack Love the Cylinder breakdown as well. Do you know where I can find a break down picture like you use in the opening of your Videos? And do you use an ultrasonic cleaner?
+Andy Ostertag Hi you can google smith and wesson revolver diagram, I clean my guns with Brass brush, solvent and cleaning patches. tomorrow I will upload a new interesting revolver video, have a nice weekend.
Outstanding video. You make it look so easy! I have one question: I'm not an avid revolver guy, but you hear people talking a lot about correct timing when it comes to revolvers. Is that something to be concerned with during disassembly/reassembly or is it more related to parts tolerances and wear?
There is no reason to be concerned about correct timing when you reassembly your revolver, revolver mechanics are simple, if the parts is good and you do like I do in this video your revolver will shoot again.
+Mike Jack Very helpful, I just got a brand new 627-5 S&W I was bummed when I took it to the range and had multiple ammo failures. Apparently S&W is putting shorter firing pins in their guns now but you can order longer ones from an independent company (Cylinder & Slide Inc) and replace them. I was thinking of disabling the internal lock too but I might just wait on that it was a real pain in the butt trying to put that side plate back on for the first time!
@@MikeJack Thank you.. I would of bet that pin didn`t go there. There is no way that pin is way to short to hit before the rebound slide does, But I put it back in there.. Thank you sir for your feedback/comment !!
My new SW 686 plus came with the rebound pin/spring, but my new 586 only came with rebound spring. No pin. I am talking about the spring @7:00. For some reasons the trigger return on my 686 is smoother than my 586. Is it because missing the pin?
Hi if the trigger return is smoother the rebound spring is lighter, the overtravel stop pin in the spring do nothing and i dont think S&W more use the pin.

Really clear instructions in both the disassembly and this video. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. Very helpful.
you're welcome, I'm glad you like my video.
@@MikeJack is it necessary to completely strip the gun down like this every so often ???
No it is not necessary to completely strip the gun down like this, it will fire many thousands of rounds before a part breaks and must be replaced.
Thank you for this and the disassembly videos. They gave me the confidence to take my 686 apart.
I am glad my video help you.

Thanks a lot, take your time when you disassembly and reassembly a gun, before I make a gun movie i disassembly- reassembly the gun 2-3 times.
@@MikeJack thank you sir. I’ll keep trying.
THANK YOU! You saved my life when the trigger spring fell out. Great video.....
Thanks 👍
Awesome video. This helped me fix an issue I had with the DA sear not resetting correctly. Thank you so much. Greetings from France.
I'm glad my video is helpful 😎
Thanks man, your videos make it so much easier when i want to play with my 686 be it for a detail strip or to stone the insides for smoothing
Thanks i'm glad you like my video

Yes a phillip screw driver do the job easy.
Thank you for this and the disassembly videos. They gave me the confidence to take my 686 apart.

This video is invaluable! I would have never got mine back together on my own. Thank you!
I'm glad my video is helpful.
Thanks for the excellent assembly and reassembly videos. Well done Sir!

Excellent video. We’ll shot at a good speed. Gave a great understanding of how to assemble. Thank you.
I'm glad my video is helpful
AS GOOD AS YOUR "DISASSEMBLY" VIDEO- AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!!
Thanks.

The cylinder stop looks a bit tricky to get in and out Great video. Thanks
Do it slowly and it's not tricky.😎
Terrific video! Thank you so much!

Fantastic video along with your disassembly video! Helped me out quite a bit.
Thanks I'm glad if my videos help you.
Very, very good job. Thanks.

Thank you. This video saved my ass!
Finally someone who doesn't over oil
Oil collects dirt and a S&W revolver can shoot well without oil
Great video!

Thank you for your video, I was having trouble getting the cover plate back on and found it was the hammer block.
I'm glad my video help you to get the cover plate back on.

absolute perfect video,,,best on utube,,,,question is disassembly-reassembly the excact same for the sw 617..?? looks like everything identical.?
Hi Matt. Yes almost all Smith & Wesson revolvers is disassembly-reassembly same way, there can be small differences.
Mike Jack thx Mike I think after watching your videos I have mustarded the courage to tackle the new trigger job..
good luck
Thanks for the informative video. I have a quick question - is there a hole in the frame that the cylinder bolt plunger fits into?
Yes
@@MikeJack Thank You, I appreciate your help!
MJ, is there a reason you put the cylinder in before putting the hammer in, then you take it back out? Necessary or habit? Another great video too
Cylinder release get push back and make space for the hammer. : )
You forgot the hand torsion spring installation.
It has its own video ua-cam.com/video/uvRllrPSfHo/v-deo.html

Congratulations with your new S&W 627 awesome revolver, your mainspring screw must be tight.
Is that a pin that goes inside the rebound spring ?????????????????????????
Some S&W revolvers have the overtravel stop pin in the spring, not mine and i dont think S&W more use the pin.

How do you set the spring that articulates the hand? I have a 686 P performance center model and I can't seem to set it correctly.

Lock delete video available?
If it Isn't Broke....Don't FIx It. The Smith & Wesson Engineers put it there for a reason. Respect It.
