Brazil has 66.3% of its territory, that is, 631,758,477 hectares, preserved with native vegetation. The volume represents more areas of vegetation than that found in the United States (which has only 19.9% of native vegetation) and the European Union (with 17.9% of the conserved area) combined. And agribusiness has a significant participation in this scenario, as 25.6% of the entire preserved area in our country is within rural properties. This means that the areas preserved within Brazilian farms alone are equivalent to ten European countries: Ireland, United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Italy. This large extension of preserved areas in rural areas is thanks to the use of conservation practices, the adoption of modern technologies and the application of techniques such as Crop-Livestock-Forest Integration (ILPF). In this way, we achieve high productivity without the need to open new areas for agricultural cultivation and livestock production. Brazilian legislation also favors environmental conservation, since the current Brazilian Forest Code, in force since 2012, determines the preservation of area on rural properties according to the biome where the farm is located. In the Amazon, producers need to preserve 80% of the property with native vegetation, in the Cerrado the requirement is 35% and in the other four biomes (Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pampa and Pantanal) it is necessary to preserve 20% of the area

What a great piece of documentary film vice. However, for those of you interested in the bigger picture of Brazilian indigenous societies, I would argue that the situation is tilted towards the indigenous side more often than not. Para is a case of exception: where there is a clear rampart disregard for the law. Which fundamentally undermines laws ability to enforce itself on that land. Because, if the opposite was true, the indigenous societies have a legal standing that outweighs many times that of the civil population. Hence, while there is a tendency in this country to blame everything on corruption. I have to argue that its more of a problem o jurisdiction. Some parts of Para are indeed much like the wild west. the arm of the law just does not stretch that far. Only a constructive engagement between the parties and the federal government will change that. Slowly building their trust in the institutions. So legal matters would move at a "glacial pace". With all that said, (and this just an opinion) this ferocious environmental protection approach that is enforced in the majority of the Brazilian territory, is far from the equilibrium point. And have hurt our economy a little bit more than it should be accepted. What I wish that my fellow Brazilians out there would understand one day; is that we cant get the payoff of two opposing goals. You want a welfare state? then pay your taxes (Brazil is only on the 69th position for corruption but it is the 2nd on tax evasion). You want economic growth? Then start supporting the economic sector that contributes the most for our GDP (industrial-scale agriculture). That doesn't have to mean a complete disregard to the indigenous societies. But maybe, our approach should be to focus our efforts these endangered tribes, rather than issuing a widespread federal decree that allows them to, many times, hold our economy hostage in other parts of the country. They represent 0.4% of the population. Their needs should be heard. But they shouldn't completely overshadow that of the rest. This is not how democracy works. Lets find an equilibrium point. Where is actually possible to achieve goals. Instead of perusing these lofty sounding ideals there are many times juxtapose. This way maybe, just maybe, our kids will grown in a developed nation right here at home. Many love for those who had the patience of reading. Sorry for the long post. Each indian tribe here in Brazil have their own war paitings, today they dont do it as much as in the colonial period, but they throw parties and rituals before the battles, and the paiting is for the religious celebration and camouflage
arthurheinr3778 I agree, it's just that lately I've started to question the authenticity of vice reports. I mean, they are profiting from these stories, it would make sense to dress up these scenes a bit to intrigue the viewers and maintain ratings.

FerrugemCaio Land mines as in the things used to take out / blow up armored vehicles (they'd work for bulldozers too). And no logger would dare drive a bulldozer in knowing that landmines were planted.
Usually you have good content but this is not. There was no information given to support who "owns" this virgin jungle land. Corruption is rampant in the world. Simply asking someone what they are fighting for and assuming you know the whole story is not journalism. The truth is rarely as clean cut as you portray it here.
Even though the loggers are just trying to feed their families I think it is wrong and you know the loggers prolly feel bad for doing it. But they dont have much choice. People will do things they usually wouldn't when they are hungry and little children doing without. Sad situation
There is two more very important comments to add here is we have met with all three of these commities and all of them were great and very accommodating in our stay including the very friendly and very helpful federal system but it is sad that there isn't a clear settlement....
As a brazilian is sad to me to see this. As the chief said, even natives from the same tribe sometimes authorize people from outside to come for logging, gold, hunting, etc... Greedy people are everywhere. Everyone thinks the amazon should be saved but no one, specially in Europe, is ready to fight for reforestation in their own countries, off course, because they like to buy cheap food at the supermarket. Some countries have lost 99% of their natural forests but you see no one complaining about. Humans are hypocrats
I am Native American from a large reservation and the fight for our lands in this country is clearly a lost battle. These "Indians" are doing the right thing. Makes me wanna go down there and join their fight. And yes it is true; natives have no fear for what they believe in.
It's sickening what's happening. These industrialists are going to end up destroying the planet, and themselves along with it. "If you think the economy is more important than the environment, try holding your breath while counting your money" rings true. Here in the uk where i live, i am going to grow my own trees and clandestinely plant them about. But the Amazon tribes need an international force to patrol and stop illegal logging. It is a global concern, not just a national one
God bless these people. May they receive the power and the divine protection they need to combat these criminals and take back what rightfully belongs to them.
One way to end deforestation is make logging worth more money for the loggers. Hear me out, they would plant trees behind them as they cut because they want job security and more money look at any other business they continue to grow or raise the product to continue the revenue stream.
I am native American it makes me proud to see our people stand up and fight for what is ours

This is just an op-ed
This not my field of expertise
Some credentials worth mentioning: I am Brazilian (not from Para), I am 23. two bachelors degrees by the University of San Diego: Accounting and Economics.
Ship thees men Mosins and 12 gauge shotguns they will win in no time!
redswift31 Maybe some guns that aren't crap like c7a2s or at least fn fals
...take ...it...back...MOSINS ARE THE BEST!!!
Yes they're reliable as hell but unless your getting replicas theres no telling what condition they'd be in. Someones a fucking commie
redswift31 I was thinking AKs but im sure they an handle themselves with Mosins.
Maybe if they started logging they could afford aks dakito fey
2:03 I died of adorableness.
I wonder if those guys always wear the feathers and face paint or if the Vice reporter asked him to wear it for filming. Just curious.
1Willum1 I ask because it changes the whole image of the doc' for me. Without the feathers it looks just like a bunch of dirty loggers fighting over land. With feathers they look like very cultured tribesmen trying to save the forest.
You know...it seemed to me like they didn't like people logging on their land without getting a cut of the profits more so then the logging itself.
Get rid of these illegal loggers I hope the Tembe kick them all out no mercy!
That’s one tough lady, respect!
Sabotage the dozers and other heavy plant
God please dont let our beautiful animals and our forest die..and please protect those who will to protect their forest and home
would they take a gringo like me to fight with them or not =?
If you speak portuguese they would I guess
101wonderboy1 i do, so maybe i should go
If there is any war worth fighting it is this one. The fight to preserve jungles and wilderness is not just for these people but for everyone.
EU ACABEI DE ENTREGAR TEU NOME E IP PARA AS FORCAS ARMADAS DO BRASIL. VOCÊ ESTÁ SENDO RASTREADO AGORA PELO GOVERNO DO BRASIL AGORA.
VICE News traveled to the northern Brazilian state of Para to meet the Tembe and witness the tribe’s struggle to protect its land.

VICE News good work , love these features. real reporters
VICE News that tembe lady was actually kind of hot. she looked good in those shorts. lol
thank you
VICE News so why dont they just tie up the three guys and drive them to Ezequiel to see if they really had his authorization?
Bio-Sexual Interface because that would be seen as bad... very bad
8:15 The fact the loggers don't feel bad at all for stealing the land....
Land mines are what they need. Get these people some land mines.
FerrugemCaio Land mines as in the things used to take out / blow up armored vehicles (they'd work for bulldozers too). And no logger would dare drive a bulldozer in knowing that landmines were planted.
FerrugemCaio Good joke really XD
THAT WOMAN IS AN ICON!
Usually you have good content but this is not. There was no information given to support who "owns" this virgin jungle land. Corruption is rampant in the world. Simply asking someone what they are fighting for and assuming you know the whole story is not journalism. The truth is rarely as clean cut as you portray it here.
drone256 did you watch the video ?
Muito bom!!!
The women have right. The Land is from the Indians tribes.
Even though the loggers are just trying to feed their families I think it is wrong and you know the loggers prolly feel bad for doing it. But they dont have much choice. People will do things they usually wouldn't when they are hungry and little children doing without. Sad situation
Great work Henry!
Very good video..👏👍👍 respect who is protected them land...and May God blessed them..Amen...
What bird makes the sound at 19:36
That's funny. The white men in Brazil are the same color as the Native tribes.
Respect from Egypt
What kind of animal is that at 11:32?
+Brittney Young some kind of deer
There is two more very important comments to add here is we have met with all three of these commities and all of them were great and very accommodating in our stay including the very friendly and very helpful federal system but it is sad that there isn't a clear settlement....
Boa oque a índia falou, o verdadeiro vizinho e amigos respeita o território do outro concordo com ela parabéns.
Whenever these people get confronted their body language is like that of a child who has just been caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
These natives don't care for the land;they just want compensation.
Wisdom Tooth of course, land is asset. there is no intrinsic or sentimental value involved.
Wisdom Tooth lawd the trolls
You know, it is good that i can always count on Vice News for some depressing shit.
Where is the update?
My great great grandfather was Amazonian indigenous from Brazil.
Only you care
One way to end deforestation is make logging worth more money for the loggers. Hear me out, they would plant trees behind them as they cut because they want job security and more money look at any other business they continue to grow or raise the product to continue the revenue stream.
Yooo tribesmen with cellphones
Sweat
huge high-five to the brave reportoers!
Solidarity from the indigenous people in North America!
We salute to this tribes
To depend this forest 👊👊👊💪💪💪
7:35 but what about the private property of the people ??? Demarcarían lands without taking into account the private properties in the region.
