    The Amazon Rainforest has always fascinated me with how far it expands and how little we know about what lurks in the depths of it.

      Its had humans in it for thousands of years, its the how much its touched not so much the touching. Archeology shows extensive prior use including quite large settlements. The difference is they worked with the forest and not against it. These were subsistence farmers and the creators of the worlds best soil, Terra preta.

    I just wanted to say, you guys have a great attitude towards all of this. So many Environmentalists/Conservationists seem to come at the effort with contempt for the people on the ground (not to mention self-hatred), to get stuck in the past, or even view their projects as some sort of revenge against the people that degraded the land. I've never seen even a mole of hatred from you.
    Stay positive, you're repairing more than just the land.

    As an Ecuadorian from the amazon this brings me tears, the country is currently going through a bad crisis. A lot of people have turned to illegal mining and logging and its destrying our land so fast its incredible. I cant blame them, most of the ppl theyre just trying to survive in most cases so thank you for trying to preserve my home which i had to leave a few years ago. Started donating as soon as i found this video.

    • @MossyEarth
      @MossyEarth  3 місяці тому +118

      We couldn’t agree more. It is not that people want to do illegal logging or mining it is because they have no other choice. The core aim of this project is not to keep buying land. It is to create long term local economic opportunity that can coexist with the rainforest. Thank you for your support! - Cheers, Duarte

    • @TheKuehlLife
      @TheKuehlLife 3 місяці тому +7

      @@MossyEarth This is what I was hoping for! This is the key to it all, the preservation needs to create enough economic opportunity that it becomes worth it for others to NOT move into mining, logging and intensive monoculture agriculture. The key will be figuring out something that is economically productive enough to get the locals (both residents & government) involved enough to be guardians of the purchased area and potentially expand the project on their own initiative-without this, just purchasing land won't do much good.

      En ese sentido de apoyar a los pobladores podrían iniciar una parcela demostrativa inspirada en los principios de los bosques de alimentos, permacultura, agricultura sintrópica. Sobre todo esta última, creada por el suizo Ernst Gotsch en Brasil, de quien habrán sabido seguramente. Traducir su libro al castellano sería un aporte valioso para la Amazonía y en general para los países de habla hispana. La idea de regenerar los bosques de acuerdo a los procesos de la naturaleza al tiempo que se producen alimentos es un aporte muy valioso para la conservación. Les alcanzo el dato del instituto de permacultura Chaikuni, cerca del río Amazonas y la ciudad de Iquitos, cuya experiencia tal vez les sea útil. También en Ecuador se trabaja en ese sentido, está la Red de Guardianes de Semillas.

    I had the amazing opportunity to visit Ecuador on a biology trip with my university not that long ago! We stayed at a place that had once been cacao farms that had been restored by a group called Fundación Jocotoco. They do very similar stuff to what you are trying to accomplish here all over Ecuador. I’m sure they could offer advice or help from their experience if the team needed any. Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see more of what you put out!

    Incredible work guys. I'm from Australia, and we lost tons of native rainforest (Big Scrub) in the northern NSW region. It's a candle compared to the Amazon but I hope one day we're able to save and restore our rainforests too 😊

    You probably know about the 'tiny forest' or 'miyawaki forest' method. Maybe it's a usable method for the grass area? Grow the forest back in 3 years in stead of 30! 😃

    Amazing video! The Amazonian rainforests are so unique, it feels like a universe on its own, and the biodiversity is out of this world. 1 hectare Amazonian forests contains more tree diversity than all of europe, which is about 1 billion hectare, and then to think that there are enormous areas still unexplored in the Amazon rainforest, with so many unknown species...especially those giant, centuries old trees never amaze to impress me. Thanks for your efforts for conserving this unique place, your channel really need more coverage❤.
