This is 5 stars! No joke. When you know what you're talking about, you say it straight. Pete does that. He's so calm, concise, humble and generous. One cool cat.
your lessons are like a pan full of gold after a hard days finding nothing but gravel. I been at this for 45 years and you are a really remarkable teacher...no verbal dross...just the essence. Thank you.
Only just seeing this in April 2020. Had to stop halfway through: Wow 😳! This is IT! If you feel it’s over your head, bookmark it and come back. This will stay with you for life if you let it.
Awesome blues guitar teacher! This guy knows his stuff. I've been taking lessons for blues Bass for 6 yrs; but I just learned a TON about chord progressions, 7th & 9th chords from this video that totally made sense & that I've never heard before.
Dear sir I'm indian... you r a so good teacher ...we haven't ani good teacher like you in Kolkata .... I'm learning guitar . please continue your lasson
Pete , you say "I hope you find this useful" ...I find it much more to be ESSENTIAL ! its actually remarkable how you've very clearly and concisely managed to cover just about everything there is to know to give any player a better understanding of this sometimes mysterious subject . Thanx Pete !
Wow this video popped up in my feed so I thought I'd watch it and I'm so glad i did, I'm a player of nearly 30 years now and I've never heard an explanation as succinct as this! Essential viewing for anyone wishing to expand their knowledge. THANK YOU.
Excellent! I am a pro. musician and teacher, but I am new to guitar. Your lesson on Chords for blues guitar was so easy to understand. I already knew the chords and theory but the chord chart along with your playing was most helpful for me. Thank you.
The clearest, most concise presentation of the material I've seen. So helpful. And such a warm, amiable and encouraging personality ! Happy to be a subscriber.
I started listening to Jimmy Reed in 62, but couple years I heard the opening 3 chords (you played em!) to Stormy Monday and I was hooked ! Thanks for vid
Your lesson here makes way more sense than any similar lesson I ‘ve ever watched… gonna try some of these chords and runs today …. Thank you for explaining AND SHOWING so clearly all of this stuff 72 and still learning RD. Romeo, Michigan
@@PeteFGuitar Been playing for just over 50 years, on and off and, despite originally having a classical music upbringing (piano - hours of sonatas, preludes and fugues, contrary chromatic scales), only really enjoyed playing blues guitar. EC and BB were gods. Thought I knew virtually any blues chord/progression you could throw at me. Obviously not. Many thanks. An excellent video.
It's helpful to write down your favorite blues verses and mix and match to make a more "personal' blues so you 're never at a loss for some blues to sing. At lot of verses you can talk.
Agree with others finding this video in recent days, I also like your easy to follow style and that Norlin era '76 ES345 looks and sounds great (I want one). My '79 LP Std needs a friend.
Thank you so very much. Great explanation of how and why these cool fingerings work so well - with perfect examples familiar to my ear of their usage in classic blues and rock contexts. I'll be returning to this lesson for a while.
I'm rocking up 7 years later, but this is a great lesson, you are a true master of your theory and it shows in your practice - I learned heaps from this thanks
Triple like! You provided clear answers to many questions I had for a long time, trying to understand the blues. Awesome video, I will watch and watch again!
An intelligent instructor who is making his guitar talk ... something rare these days . Excellent Thank You. Perhaps you could do a study on Robin Trower’s The Fool In Me or Can’t Wait Much Longer. Great Take Care
Another good video Pete. Saw it a few years back and took another look at it today. Not sure what forces are brewing out there but a T-Bone Walker CD has been playing in my vehicle for about two weeks now and have been breaking down his fantastic playing. Cheers to you Sir your love of music is apparent in your teaching. Back to T-Bone!
This video is an absolute must for any intermediate Blues musician. Great job no wonder the blues is so damn cool. I particularly like the augmented chord explanation.
I like the way you teach. I rank you in the top group of best instructors on the tube. Very good flow of info and you have a certain non-nonsense attitude with a lot of charm...in short: I liked it very much. Im following your channel now. Happy to see more!

One of the best blues lessons I've ever seen. Really ties a lot of things together that I've learned in bits and pieces. Perfect theory and "doin it" guide for those like me who don't know. Thanks! John
I thought you were too academic until you started singing! Good basic blues chords and moves that every should player should know. I really appreciate the guitar teachers who aren't too stuffy to cut loose and sing a bit, blues is intended as a vocal music, I try to sing the notes I play because it's more interesting for the listener. Having some fun, that's what playing should be all about.
Hi John! I find that playing with my fingers works better than with my ear! :) Just kidding, thanks very much, both for watching, and for posting your kind comment.
A perfect video.I was pleased that I didn't learn anything new but if you and youtube had been around in the 1960s you would have saved me a lot of time!! You are an excellent teacher. Great clarity and careful patient explanations. A personal question if I may: with the surname Farrugia, you must have a Maltese connection. (My dad Loreto was Meilak before changing his surname to York in 1947 while in the Royal Air Force (which he volunteered for in Malta in 1940).
@@PeteFGuitar My dad's people were all from Ghajnsielem, Gozo, but he was born at Sliema after they moved there from Gozo. Nickname was tan-nassi. He was stationed in London after the War, changed his name there, and then years later in 1954, migrated with my Cockney mum and me (aged three) to Melbourne. Did your music interests develop from your Maltese background to any extent?
Nice clear and concise explanation outlining the essence of blues theory. I particularly found your breakdown of the more advanced theories of jazz interwoven into the blues most useful. Really put tritone substitutions and sharpened sub-dominant diminished into it's proper place for me to understand. Thanx, and nice display of the ideas at the end.
