  • What is it about Road America that makes it so special? Is it the wonderful people? The beautiful scenery and old world charm of the surrounding area? That despite the worst odds, you just keep coming back for more? We divulge into our personal careers to figure out what makes Road America more than meets the eye.
This show’s format rotates each episode, because squirrel. This episode returns to a familiar format we call Sam Rambles About a Thing. That thing isn’t just Wisconsin cheese- but you, the listener, might argue otherwise.
Related Trivia: Ross has opinions about track limits. You might get to hear them, you might not. Jeff recalls a time when his uncle Boom Boom attempted to get away in a police chase. Sam, despite terrible weather conditions and a myriad of car issues, has never had a bad weekend at this track.
Mike wrote this episode description today because Sam fell asleep at his keyboard while dreaming about never-ending bratwurst and being 24 again.
This episode was produced by Mike Perlman.

    ABOUT THE SHOW:
It’s Not the Car is a podcast about people, motorsport, and how we all work under pressure. In other words, we tell racing stories and leave out the boring parts.
Ross Bentley is a former IndyCar driver and an internationally renowned performance coach and author. Jeff Braun is a championship-winning race engineer. Sam Smith is an award-winning journalist and a former executive editor of Road & Track magazine. Together, we explore the emotion at the heart of the machine.
We don’t love racing for the nuts and bolts-we love it for what it asks of the bag of meat at the wheel.
    New episodes every Tuesday.

Road America has been my home track. I can clearly remember going up there ever since early elementary school days. The drive from Chicagoland up there being a big part of it. As it was always in a 72 911. It’s still farm country as you get close but I feel more has been built up north of Milwaukee these days. It’s still a magical place as you all have described. I want to visit more tracks besides Road America. Especially 3 majors ones in Europe. The few others I have gone to of course get compared to Road America. I try not to be bias but Road America always keeps holding that top step. When pulling into Road America, you want to quote the line from the movie Field of Dreams but a slight twist to it. Is this heaven? No this is Road America.
As a side note. One other thing that is also amazing with Road America compared to other tracks that I have gone to is, the access to the track. What I mean is how close you can get to it with a lot of it just more or less a cow fence not allowing you to go closer. Makes it amazing to take pictures at with no obstructions for your average fan.
Also during the summer, you can ride your bike on the track on Mondays and Wednesdays nights. I think Jeff, you were going for that 2 minute mark, right? 😀

Right on the money about the photos. I have shot better stuff with a spectator ticket at RA than I have with a Press Pass at other places.
Riding your bike is a lot easier at BiR or Blackhawk: No huge hills.
