PD Simplified - Cable Clutch vs Hydraulic Clutch | Which Is Better

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 2 сер 2024
  • Motorcycles clutches are actuated by either a cable or a hydraulic system, the former being the most common on affordable motorcycles. However, they do the exact same thing - disengaging the clutch’s friction plates. Cable-operated clutches require more effort, hydraulic ones not so much - but they are quite expensive. So which is better? In this episode of PD Simplified, Shumi explains how these systems work, and how you can make clutching easier without spending a ton of money.

Before watching your video about braking, used 4 figers of my right hand, then gradually changed to two. Going forward will try to use 2 fingers for pressing clutch lever as well.

Everything you said is absolutely right. But you skipped a basic thing. Cable clutch have some amount of friction, so the failure chance is higher in cable clutch, but not in hydraulic clutch. And this is India, here manufacturers do cost cutting a lot. So they always don't provide the best. My pulsar rs200 had a clutch cable failure after 6 months of purchase.

hi Shumi ji, Please discuss regarding "there is difference in tyre sections of front and rear tyre, if we want to upgrade tyres to higher section, should we need to maintain the same difference of section between the front and rear tyre". or can we decrease or increase the difference of section between front and rear tyres. what are the consequences and how riding feel of bike changes ? Thank You, Shumi for ur videos on motorcyles.

Isn't getting a longer lever (for the clutch-box end) the same as those easy-clutch attachments? They reduce clutch travel on the clutch-box side to make the pull easier. With these gadgets, I have seen people burning out clutch plates or having trouble shifting, especially to neutral. But the first tip is golden. If your motorcycle doesn't have an adjustable clutch lever, get one and use this trick.

I just transitioned from an SV650 (hydraulic clutch) to a Z900RS (cable clutch) and to be honest...it's been tricky getting used to it lol. Can anybody answer if it's normal to kinda feel the cables working / doing their job, when you pull in the clutch lever ?! lol. I know that sounds crazy but, I never felt that on my SV650. The Z900 is brand new by the way, 2022... Sometimes I just feel the cables, and it kinda bothers me lol.

    Nice video guys 👍
I agree with what you said.
Moving the clutch lever fixation point inside the handle bar should also help other than moving hand to a non ergonomic position.
But for the people who go offroad or the people who like to work the gear box will definitely appreciate the hydraulic setup over cable one as there is a lot less energy which is lost due to friction.
I love my hydraulic setup and will definitely not go back to cable 🙂
