    New series. In this series I go over the history of pokemon including their meta relevance in GBL. In the series I will go over important information like stats, moveset, and typings; what seasons the pokemon were relevant in and why; and how to team build with the pokemon.

    Great League Teams

    Beyond the Hype. I created this series as there is a lot of click bait and false impressions of pokemon and I want to give you a real in depth analysis of whether a pokemon is worth spending dust and candies on.
    This week it is catch cup for both great league and little cup
    I have had this debate of what is better, defense or stamina when it comes to Pokemon GO Battle League so I went and figured it out myself.

    Defense also impacts fast move damage. For example, cofagrigus (def 167,2) takes 6 damage per shadow claw from sableye. Trevenant (def 105,8) takes 9.

      @lsumaniac2485 Місяць тому

      No matter if fast or charge move, 1 damage is 1 damage for the both of them. Higher defense just means you take less damage

    • @dawsonlindahl7427
      @dawsonlindahl7427 Місяць тому

      Yeah, the mechanic itself doesn’t change for fast vs charge move, and with longer turn fast moves it won’t be as noticeable. Imagine a fast attack that only does 1 or 2 damage per attack, though. If you have a larger stamina stat and thus have more HP, each attack will do less proportional to your full HP.

    16:23 exactly
    Whenever i run like good defensive type pokemon like skarmory or some good stam defence combo pokemon like cress clodsire
    Body slams do absolutely nothing and yea only nuke charge moves do soo much damage still they take it like a champ that's why i love running them
    Similar for lanturn tho **not exactly**

    I watched this video after reaching the same conclusion, I've been playing for just 2 months and it seemed to me that the best idea to start investing in GBL would be that defensive type of pokemon, they are much more tolerant of mistakes which are made in lower leagues a lot and you can still get a victory. Glass cannons are ideal in the hands of professionals, they no longer make mistakes.

    Which one is better? I feel defense is worth more initially (which you see by the power of pokemon like Carbink, Bastiodon, and Defense Deoxys who all have *significantly* lower stamina stats than their defense), as if the opposite was true, you would expect a pokemon like Drifblim to be significantly better than it actually is.
    That being said, they definitely have a symbiotic relationship, where increasing your defense makes your HP more valuable and vice versa. I mean, *technically*, even attack can play a similar role to an extent, because the faster you KO your opponent (i.e. the higher your attack is), the fewer hits that your defense and hp have to take. Although, without doing all the math involved, I think that the outsized weight attack carries in the CP formula versus defense and HP makes the effect significantly less noticeable.

    • @mathewadair3805
      @mathewadair3805 Місяць тому

      Damage is a function of opponent's attack / your defense (times a bunch of multipliers like stab, shadow, typing effectiveness, excellent vs great popping charge move bubbles, etc) so Drifblim's 75 defense means a boring, average 100 attack is doing 133% damage to it, before any other modifiers, effectively negating the HP advantage.
      But the effectiveness of defense levels off as it increases (100 attack vs 100 defense is 100% damage, vs 110 defense is 91% damage, 83% vs 120 defense, 77% for 130, and so forth) so in a format with a stat cap like GBL, those stats can be more valuable at a certain point being hit points instead of damage prevention.

      Is a combination of the 2 Def/HP Swagman explains that very well I. His videos especially the Lanturn one… am Licktng! Dan try but he just got it confused on it! lol
      Also keep in mind that there must be a valance between the Def/HP like if you have 121 Defyiu must have 114 in hp or if you have 119 def you need 110… but it doesn’t work for all mons bc of the IVs!

    Whenever I look at break and bulk points, these come into play. Maybe another video could be using stats to determine which mon to use in your storage. I thought this was helpful.

  • @Lucky69K
    @Lucky69K Місяць тому +1

    And if we see
    Anni is top1
    Cuz it's not like bulky or squishy its middle b/w of it but the reason is of its typing and the movesets
    Like ghost typing ressists normal and fighting type damage and yea here most pokemons are fighters or normal pokemons
    And then counter is the greatest fast move
    Night slash ice punch coverage is good
    Close combat has some its plays
    Shadowball the best charge move cuz its 100damage include the stab thingy then it hits to most types
    But then if you say what about dark or normal
    Hey counter is there and for normal run ns/icepunch whatever or for dark run ice punch like yea
    Due to its typing and coverage of moves its rank1 rn in pvpoke
    Esit:-just saw full video i see tho
    You talked about it anyway

    During Remix cup I ran an all bulk team with Steelix Cresselia and Mandibuzz. It brought me up to 2850ish (now I'm at legend). I was hesitent at first, but it really worked. Maybe I should've commited that battles, I even recorded them.

    I have always been so confused all this time , like for instance I had a mandibuzz with 149.8 defense but 180 hp while the other had 152 defense and 178 hp and the 180 hp varient was ranked higher than the other idk why .

    I've got maxed out hundo Chansey and Wobba and have thought about being evil and trying a time out strategy with another bulky mon. But I don't even want to suffer through that myself let alone put other trainers through it.

    The only time I really understand high HP vs defense is with 1 damage fast moves like lock on. It is much harder to lock on down a Guzzlord than something with low HP. I'm sure it must matter in other less extreme situations but I still can't grasp when

    If you manage to hit legend, can you PLEASE humor me and do an outlast team.
    One of the most fun teams I've ever played was Mantine, Steelix, Araquanid (pre breaking swipe nerf)
    The strat was to keep them all alive by spamming bubblebeams and breaking swipes, and burn the clock.
    That team doesn't work great anymore, but I know the strat is slept on

    if I want to know if a mon will be good on attack or bulk, I check the swagman! LOL
    to be honest a lot of Reginal players used the swagman tables... Lanturn, Cress, and Registeel are just a few that are good with a higher bulk... but how do one know the numbers well the swagman had them! LOL Dan should just ask him before doing the video or check some of his videos!!
    Every CD I check the guy to see what I am looking for or if it is worth going out to find a good one!
    for me a like bulk the most if you can do 1 hp am a dream when it is needed well that is not a winning mon!
    P.S. I love my Umbreon that mon has survived so many charges moves to just hit my opponent with a shield or damage! LOL

  • @DjavoJ
    @DjavoJ Місяць тому

    Yeah. But Toxapex is balanced this way.
    Niantic should at all costs avoid giving bulky mons either high energy generating fast moves or charge moves that have a high damage per energy ratio.
    The fights and teams would be pretty boring.

    • @nait5340
      @nait5340 Місяць тому +1

      if the game was at least somewhat balanced all pokemons woud be somewhat useable. umbreon for example has alot of bulk with 2476 stat product, is fast charging, and has ok-ish charge moves. butterfree on the other hand has attack as highest stat, 1750ish stat product, a non-stab confusion as best fast attack, and pretty much only one relevant charge move in bug buzz since psychic sucks. that's also the move niantic nerfed to "balance" the game (medicham), while nerfing every other psychic pokemon in the process. imo you're giving niantic too much credit here.

    • @DjavoJ
      @DjavoJ Місяць тому

      @@nait5340 fair enough i don't condone umbreon too. That's why I don't want toxapex become the same. Toxapex still has team comp wise play if your backline or lead is weak to fairies you can surely run it as the lead or in the back. I was also concerned when they released clodsire. Just don't give bulky mons high DPE moves and fast energy generating moves.
