"Be ruthless"
Good to know he took that to heart.
He took it too far that he became ruthless even to his own people
@@AthosGarima Ragnar never explained who he should be ruthless to
@@JoonaBurke it's obvious because they were talking about the Christians specifically King Ælla and Ecbert
@@AthosGarima he said be ruthless
Even to your own kind
You seen what Ragnar own brother did to him
Ragnar didn't want Ivar to care anymore about anyone but himself like a true viking not giving a fuck about anything and achieving is dreams
@@stavalamo6643 Well explained I kept telling shallow head people this....You can even say these are just two Broken Souls.
Then i will die too, im thinking of being burned alive. - True love of a son.
I think thats a reference to how his brother Hvitserk chooses to be executed.
Best scene of the season.
I don't talk too much with my father but thats how men show love!
Slayer Of Light yep, I don’t think any of the other sons had the same loyalty, they just revel under the name Lothbrok, ivar is the true son of Ragnar, if he could walk he would be unstoppable
Actually the real historic ivar was burned alive ;)
''Be ruthless'' One of the most savage advise a dying father can give to his son.
He certainly took the advice to heart considering the last episode.
Alexander Angelus was that when he poured molten metal in that priests mouth??
This world is cruel and will almost always destroy the weak. The truth is, in this world only the ruthless survive

This is the most powerful scene in the entire series of Vikings... Ragnar ushering in the rise of Ivar the Boneless.. Brought tears to my eye's.
When Ragnar said goodbye to Floki was another great scene in the series
Warren White I shed tears every time
Warren White think ragner got the last laugh unshackling the chains of a demon
No, best scenes are Ragnar talk to Seer and Odint tells sons about Ragnar's death.
Warren White Ivar I’m just about to believe you lol Ragnar shut up and listen idiot
“You do not think like other men. You are unpredictable.”
I love that line.
Same!!! And it is sooo true too
Its like ragnar is pouring all of his cunning and vicious intelligence into Ivar, like a parting gift
Ivar's slap to the head of Ragnar alone was epic
Eren Jager, i don't think ragnar is the kind of dad to beat his son up over a joke at all, his reaction is more of like a sigh of "take this seriously" it's a father/son thing.
Egill Ragnarsson ikr....sometime my son punches me when I'm to serious lol....I love him to life
Only Ivar can slap his dad and live
It’s was like a “oh you little shit, you truly are my son.” Moment
In german he says "I'm just messing with you, you donkey". I though donkey was Ragnars new nickname, because Ivar also called him like that when Ragnar was carrying him around.
"I'm thinking of being burned alive" Omfg only Ivar wouldn't mind dying like that lmao.
NovaShen4 xDDDD Ivar is a fuck*ng beast
Fitting as it's the opposite from drowning as he's terrified of water.
Bad way to go
@silent mental aporoach
Thank you ive been saying this!
He'll only feel half the pain lmao
“One day the whole world will know and fear... Ivar The Boneless”
Damn what a badass name
They called him Ivar the Boneless as a child too.
Thank Odin it wasn't Ivar the Spineless
Ivar the terrible was his real name.
Better than Ivar the Cripple.
"Use your anger intelligently"
*Kills his own brother in anger a few episodes later*
Its 6 am and im dying lmfao
Well Ragnar just said "be ruthless", so I think Ivar got confused
Siggy always underestimated him, he had to make him pay for it.
Wether it was his blood or not, sig always underestimated Ivar and tried to get under his skin, all Ivar done was- embedded the words his dying father said to him into his own mind set “everyone will always underestimate you, be ruthless” and the killing of sigurd was that combined wit acting on impulse.
Yeah Ivar was written like a room temperature IQ idiot after Ragnar's death. Rather than becoming the glue to his brothers and forge an Empire, he becomes a 5 year old idiot who casually murders whoever he wants when he wants. They spend seasons building Ivar into a smart man, and then he becomes an idiot.
Ragnar entrusting the show to Ivar
Ivar was the best part of the show after Ragnar
0:20 I love how Ivar chose his death like it was a birthday wish or something xD
I really love his character for some reason lol
True, Ivar was made to be a great king and commander. Characters like Bjorn and Ubbe were made to be generals.
@@ainzworth8877 Bjorn did become a king and died a king. He was king of Sweden
@@bladeswinton1224 Ivar colonised Dublin and he couldve conquered the whole of England but he died from an illness and all the Vikings lost morale and were defeated by Alfred
@@TK-uu9vn ivar's death didnt cause much impact in great army because he already left
The reason why great army fucked up because it was split in half
Ivar wasn't joking when he said he wished he wasn't so angry all the time imo
I know what that feels like.
I kinda feel that way too. It seems he's doing his best to impress Ragnar here
@@sarahgray430 so do i
@@turq1824 I really do wish I didn't feel so angry...it gives me heartburn.
@@sarahgray430 Jesus... Sorry
out of all his sons..Ivar will be the most vicious..he will unleash hell
All I want is to see him take vengeance on Lagertha
tikletik ..hope not..I like Lagertha..Asluag was the worst
That would make sense, because when Ragnar died nothing was known of Lagertha anymore, and if Ivar would kill her Ragnar and her could see each other again while the show could focus more on Ivar and Bjorn, tho i wouldn't like to see her dead.
MOkarf Koasd I keep hearing that but I cant imagine how... unless he had a hodor to carry him around.
Lady Death
Don't be sad for Ragnar's death. Anyone who knows the saga of Ragnarr Lodbrok knows that the most feared Viking in history is about to rise. Ivar the Boneless :)
Ragnar/ Most respected. Ivar/ Most feared
not true. ivar is immortal and has now entered the entertainment business playing himself.
@@arawn1061 they think and are pretty sure because of certain things discoverd in ireland and england that ivar is a name refering to imar from the imar dynasty..that ruled for many years ..
They recently found a grave with remains of a viking leader burried next to a church.. also next to him where remains of other young norsman along with a viking sword..
They think it where the remains of ivar (imar) story goes he was burried there as a fuck you to the church and christians ...also they found remains of people who where most likely being sacrificied...childeren and woman
The most feared Viking to this day is still Rollo of Normandy. Your facts are incorrect.
@@ryufight7987
I looked up your story there. Can't find it. You're most likely lying or you were deceived.
Lagertha, Bjorn, and Ubbe claimed that they were fighting for Ragnar's legacy, his dream to give farmland to his people, but they never knew that Ragnar had long abandoned that dream, replacing it with a burning desire for vengeance against Ecbert and the Saxons. Only Ivar knew him at the end, and understood what his father really wanted.
Ragnar realised a king can make an agreement but also break an agreement. He knew if ivar was to decide the fate on those to take revenge on he would not make agreements of any kind but a brutal murder. Ragnar told Bjorn you make too many mistakes and it was true when he allowed ecbert to choose his own death. Ivar was tutored by floki and ragnar knew that he was viking taught not some of his confused views.
That is very true , I wished Ivar would tell this to his brothers so the whole audience of the vikings show can understand more why Ragnar told Ivar this. Because it seems everyone who hates Ivar doesnt understand this lol
@@blackbladeszoro2984 There was a huge missed opportunity for a scene where Ivar shows his brothers their father's sacred arm ring, which he swore upon to destroy the Saxons.
Wow, well done, did you see the latest episode? This comment is increasingly relevant with each episode. I was thinking the same thing that Ubbe and Bjorn dont know what they're fighting for.
jon do okay everything you just typed is stuff I’ve been thinking for the longest I thought it was just me 😳
Ragnar: you must seek revenge but not on Aella , on ecbert
Ivar: Fuck Ecbert and Aella and Lagertha, i declare war on the whole world !!
TheNightKing GodofTheNorth just like you lol
0:26 the way Ivar casually says, "Than I'll die too, I'm thinking to burnt alive" just brings chills over me.
Out of alll ways to die he pick that Then burns hvisterk girl up
I thought that without ragnar i would not enjoy this show. But then i did a quick google on the history of ivar after ragnars death and ooooh boy am i looking forward to the rest of this show without ragnar.
oopman12
Ivar the cruel
oopman12 haha)
joseph ezu now look at when Ubbe asks for peace from the christians what happens Ivar is nessary in the new age.
And oh boi the actor does a good job.
"I have to die."
"Then I'll die to. I'm thinking of being burned alive."
That's what you call love
"Then I'll die too.. I'm thinking of being burned alive." Now that's fucking gangsta.
Giving Athelstans bracelet to Ivar was really powerful. It was a gift passed with love so many times between Athelstan and Ragnar and it’s final destination was ivar 😢
That was Ragnars arm band
It’s not Athelstans, the last person to have it was Bjorn and he used it to show everyone that Athelstan “abandoned” their gods. That’s the last time they ever show the arm ring, so I think the one Ragnar gave here was his own
"Happiness is nothing"
he was only joking...idiot *head slap*
Egill Ragnarsson no, Ivar was joking, not Ragnar. Ivar said if he was't angree all time, he would be happy, but it was joke. Both of them agree that happiness is nothing
i know that
Egill Ragnarsson I know that you know, I was only joking, idiot
Use your anger intelligently how I love that cannot what for the next season

Lol. Nope

They forgot about this scene in 2020 and too little time to change all the bad story twists before the show is finished
ragnar just turned up ivars inner savage
All the way up😂
one of the most disappointing point with ragnar's death is not seeing him and ivar together anymore! scenes with them together were epics! they are both really charismatic and talented actors.... i find their alchemy really powerfull. when they are on screen you are like hypnotized and all eyes on them
I know right! I loved their dynamic and charisma
I love this scene, especially the line when Ragnar tells Ivar; "everyone will always underestimate you, you must make them pay for it". Everything Ivar has done since this moment, is because of this conversation with his father, this is his motivation. Aside from wanting to kill Lagertha because she killed Aslaug, but that was completely preventable in my opinion.
And so King Ragnar Lothbrok passes into legend. But with his death a hell fire of blood and vengeance will descend on his enemies and where once they feared Ragnar Lothbrok so too will the world come to fear the name Ivar the Boneless!
This scene gives me chills every time knowing this is where Ivar the Boneless was born
And then Ivar The Boneless was born
Belle Reinette Reborn? Like a baby?
Man this show won't be the same without Ragnar !!
I thought so too but now there's Ivar.
that's rather the point, it will be just as good tho
exactly, when Ragnar said those words to Ivar, i feel like Ragnar its Ivar now. And Bjorn going away feels like a filler now, Ivar will be the next Ragnar on-screen trust me.
I'm really glad they picked Ivar. I don't think any Ragnar's other sons would have been able to replace him.
xxmikey90xx historically Ivar is the most famous and ruthless of Ragnar's son. So is pretty damn right that they focus on him
“Be ruthless”
He put those words into good use then he saw himself as a monster!!
Listen Bjorn and Sigurd, your papa thinks the cripple ivar is the most important to the future of the vikings #TeamIvar
Cos Bjorn established a while back he doesnt want to be king
Neither did Ragnar, you’re missing the point entirely.
Hahahahah ragnar just set up all his sons to fight eachother to prevent them eclipsing him in fame.
@Lady Sarcasm
Yeah, Ragnar had no idea Lagertha would kill Auslaug.
@@SamerAN1985 I highly doubt that was Ragnar's intention. He wanted his son's to avenge him, as sons of Ragnar, as a family. Ragnar tells Ivar that he's strong, and not to listen to the doubters and let people know that he's just as strong as his brothers. His brothers still never took him seriously, despite him having good ideas, and all the neglect and ridicule he get over the years manifested into the monster he became. So no, I think Ragnar did what a good father would, give his son hope and look at his disabilities as an ability. I think the neglect and disrespect he received from his brothers and anyone else deeming him a helpless cripple ended up contributing to his awful doings. It explains why he's angry all the time. After all, they don't believe him when they said Ragnar chose him to be a leader.
You know what? This really breaks my heart. Ivar just told his father how he would stay up all night thinking about how much he needed him. He finally gets Ragnar back and get to spend time with him only to be taken from him again. Smh. They clearly love each other. I wish they had more time together. It would have really benefited Ivar. This really makes me sad. I'm going to miss Ragnar. But Ivar has no idea that his mother is dead too. He is going to be #Hell on earth when he returns to Kattegat!!!
He probably wont achieve that much power but would probably be a strategist
I loved this scene between father and son; I love Ragnar and Ivar 😚
"Everyone will always underestimate you. You must make them pay for it."
Beautiful worlds ❤
Both men know that Ivar is a monster, and they both know he's the only one who will truly make the English pay for their actions.
An old god talking to a new god.
"Use your anger intelligently."
'seek revenge not on king Ælle but on Ecbert' - it's goin to be more fun!
Star Fire Because of the settlement that they destroy after they left Northumbria.
‘Its for a bigger, bolder strategy’
his son did so he did it. Guilty by association.
@Aryan Ranger no they not friends .how could they be friends whend Ragnar invade her country .if you was ecbert will you believe Ragnar as friends after he invade your kingdom and killing your people.they were friends just for business.
Aryan Ranger I just watched it recently and Ecbert admits to Ragnar It was not destroyed by his hand, but it was by his orders. There was also a scene where he feigned outrage at the nobles who supported murdering the settlers but then embraced his son and both of them having a good ol jolly after sending the nobles away. Certainly Ecbert was at the centre of it all.
“Use your anger intelligently” really felt that as someone who is always in physical pain yet still always in the wars. “Happiness is nothing”
I thought this was a fascinating dialogue between a father and his son! to plant revenge seed in Ivar's head and encouraged him to utilise his abilities were it will serve him well rather than focusing on being or physically resembling the viking traditions.
"People will always underestimate you. You must make them pay for it."
This scene changed ivar forever
The literal embodiment of Ragnars anger and hatred in a man
Of all his offspring I honestly think Ivar took the most after his father; the coveting eyes, the mocking tone, the ability to take action using what resources he has, even looking at what he could do to enhance his own abilities and push himself to tougher limits, and of course, the control over his deteriorating sanity.
these two were so good in this scene I wish they could have drawn the return to England just a bit more so we could enjoy these two actors together some more
Ragnar's a goddamn genius.
I literally cried like a baby with this scene!
Ragnar really did love Ivar everything he told Ivar was very deep and touching it was a father / son heart to heart .
Looking back at, now I really can’t blame why Ivar acts like a tyrant. That’s what his father pretty much told him to be. Be ruthless, use your anger. Strike fear in your enemies and everybody will fear you
This scene shows the deepest meaning of true love.
This is my fave scene in the entire show. What a master Travis is at portraying the essence of Ragnar still about to die.
i love this scene it's so powerful , their facial expressions the dialog AMAZING .
Ivar: I could have been happy...
Ragnar: Happiness is nothing.
Father of the year right there.
Team Ivar to this day.
Team Ivar for Eternity and Beyond
Best father and son moment
"I was only joking," *smack* "Idiot."
Every night i listen that scene, i sleep like a god.
Ivar is the true heritage of Ragnar
"out all of my sons it was you who I wanted to bring here"
Dude, he was the only one who wanted to go, and you didn't even invited him, he invited himself to join lol. Ragnar is good with words
Do you not think Ragnar didn't know what his sons had become?
He already knew Bjorns limited capabilities. His other sons I'm guessing he already got a good measure of them. Ivar he just saw as a kid with everything against him managed to survive.
He was scare bejon became more famous than him.
@@sylvamoise5788 he didn't care about that later tho
I kinda think he chose to ask all his sons to come cause he knew the other 4 would say no, once he died they’d feel guilt and seek revenge, he asked ivar one on one because he was the only one he wanted to come with him because ivar was the one most likely to be underestimated by the English and also because he had the potential to be the most ruthless and persistent of ragnars sons, even when walking to death Ragnar is still the chess master
Only if these two fought together in their prime against wessex... Holy shit, Ivar and Ragnar are so badass
*In Vikings Season 5 let us not forget Ragnar gave his Blessing and his name which is why IVAR THE BONELESS most famous Viking King to ever live.*
I have a son who was born blind and I completely understand the kind of love a father has for their disabled children.
I hope your son will do fine in this life. You sound like a awesome father for him.
hope Ragnar made it to Valhalla cuz he was a badass
Gary Holbrook he never Scream or made Sound during his Death, so maybe he is.
Gary Holbrook he did make it, Odin came to them and told them.
He converted to Christianity, though. I think he'd show up at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter will be all "WTF?" and Ragnar will be all "I converted man...ask Aethelstan about it!" and they'd have to let him in. There probably wouldn't be mead in Heaven, but I think we've got beer because beer is proof that God is good and that He loves us!
Carlos163 Korkis Odin said "cold in the iron earth, Ragnar lies." Ik he could just be saying that he is dead, but I feel like Odin would've said "Ragnar is in Valhalla." Also the only reason I believe that Ragnar started yelling about Odin and Valhalla when he was about to die. Is because he say Ecbert in the crowd and he did it so it would seem as if he was living out legacy but really he was doing it all for show. Ragnar did tell Ecbert that he doesn't believe in the gods right before he handed him over to Aella.
He went to the Christian ghetto of Valhalla.
In my opinion the best scene/dialogue in the while show thus far.
i will avenge you father. i promess
WE
Ill be siding with odin next season:)))))))
Be ruthless
“Oh you must seek revenge” goosebumps!!!!!!!!!!

These two had amazing chemistry, despite only working together for a short time.
This was the most me memorable scene in the series. Ivar kept the show going after Ragnar died. He really took Ragnar’s advice to heart
PEOPLE THINK YOU ARE NOT A THREAT , BUT I KNOW DIFFERENTLY 🙂
this scene's reference was done through out season 6b....love it
What scene or episode specifically?
Imagine how you feel when you see that one of your most beloved one's going to die and you're unable to do anything to save him 💔
Ivar is what ragnar felt like deep down but ragnar has to act civilized in his own viking way
King Ragnar always had a plan when he did come to Britain. He would groom Ivar the Boneless into the most ruthless viking warrior and king. He is going to destroy the british forces and become the king of scotland
The Vikings were told to avoid Scotland if they wished to to continue living their lives. The Romans,The Norse, the old Saxons and every other invader of the Britain avoided the Celts. The Romans even built a wall declaring that this is the end of the empire. The Celts were NEVER defeated in war but later became subjugated to England through marriages and deception. You can verify all of this simply on google
The Celts were defeated though. Where do you think the name Edinburgh comes from? Even when the vikings were raiding the isles the anglo-saxon peoples had driven the celts into the highlands and conquered the lowlands.
I am not disputing that ground was lost and won over the century's You may recall an invasion by the Scots that conquered the whole of England and made its way down the the very walls of London which was which only had a skeleton guard at the time . For some reason unknown to history we never sacked or took the city but instead turned around and went home , but this is a discussion of the civilised Scots . not the Celtic or Pictish that made an entire roman legion simply vanish without a trace and that the demons of hell avoided of which we are discussing
No sorry. The Picts thought otherwise.
cam mciver the Picts, or Caledonians. Geez
Who’s here after ivars death?
Me

Your anger is a gift
Listen to the Valkaries in the background whipping around, as they are talking about dying... Such a powerful scene...
One of the best, most memorable scenes from the entire series. This whole scene literally sets the rest of the season(s) in motion with one of the most interesting characters taking the spotlight from here on out
I think this is my favorite scene of the whole show... ♥
This is the birth of Ragnars greatest creation.
"happiness is nothing", "hold on to that anger"
I think Ragnar speaks more from his own frustration than given good advice
This scene is passing the torch Ragnar always khew Ivar was the only one from the famiy that can actually be the true king Bjorn was just like rolo
Ubbe was not as ruthless nor brilliant
Kvitsek always fighting to belong somewhere and Sigurd was like his mother
Only Ivar was just like Ragnar cunning and strong mind and had the potential of getting thousands of people follow him whenever he wishes
But ragnar didn't rule the way like ivar did. Plus, bjorn is not like rollo, and ragnar himself told bjorn that one day he will rule kattegate ( season 3). The only ones who understand ragnar the mosr are bjorn and ubbe
Everybody gangsta until Ragnar has a plan
The seed that he planted...
loved this scene, one of my favourites. Travis and Alex are killing it here, both are amazing!
I’m not crying you are.
he listened LOL
People fail to understand that Ivar is becoming exactly what he wanted. I think in the end when Ragnar has this talk with him, he realized that his dream of gaining land to farm wasn’t going to happen because of how the Christians viewed them..Ubbe is a lot like Ragnar, but Ragnar knows that his way didn’t work out and in order for their people to make it there, they had to be savages and take it rather than being diplomatic.
after seeing the whole series, you can see just how much this last conversation with his father shaped him as a character.
This makes me cry
So heartbreaking. 💔
Always brings tears to my eyes
Love how they make the blue eyes shine through ragnar and ivar! epic!
“Use your anger intelligently and I promise you that one day the whole world will know Ivar the boneless”
