This is THE most accurate method of tablet making I have seen on UA-cam, my dad taught me 60+ years ago, and yours was the same method.....thank you Lorna.
I tried a recipe I found online. I was a complete disaster. No part of it reminded me of how my mum made it. Your recipe reminds so much of my mothers. I do remember her using a candy thermometer. I do not ever remember my mother beating(using a mixer), but your tablet looks identical! I will give a try! Thank you.
Have been making Lorna's recipe for the last 4 years to box up and give as little Christmas treats to family, friends, gifts for delivery people. Everyone adores it. Came back to the video today to give to a friend so she can do the same this holiday season
Hi @StoryOracle , so is this the correct-real-right-absolute Scottish Tablet? I made ST using another youtube video channel and mine was always didnt come out dark color. As the instruction just tell to reach 120°F then heat off and beat it. It didnt tell to let the mixture simmer for 20 or 40min..;( It turned out taste nice but always pale.
@ Mine always turns out. She doesn’t have you cook it with a thermometer, you just keep cooking until it is the color you want. Takes a while, like45 min or something.
I never put butter in tablet Mix .... milks and sugar and really long mixing ! Didn’t use vanilla either ! Could tell it was done cooking as rings around the pot were getting firm , or use the ball method cup of cold water take spoon and let it drop a little ball of tablet into cold water if it is ready it will solidify FYI if you overcook it? Not burnt , it will be Carmel toffee! Taste good too ! I used to make coconut tablet ! But cannot remember how🤔 it was white dyed pink .... I will try and make this .... thanks for sharing 💕
Followed your recipe and it turned out great although it was slightly soft but thats just because i couldn't find the electric whisk. My arms were gubbed using the normal one 😂
thanks for saving my tablet! read an instruction on how to do it but no where did they say to leave it on the heat simmering for 30-40 mins - Was wondering why mine wasn't setting!
Fantastic recipe and worked first time!!!! I used an electric hob so cooking only took 30 mins ...........always keep your eye on it as it can burn very quickly towards the end stages. And yes Scottish Tablet is supposed to be grainy. If you want smooth then its a fudge recipe you are looking for 😀
Lorna this is my first time seeing you on UA-cam I’m tablet daft lol, it’s lashing down here at the moment so good excuse to make tablet. Thanks for a cracking video.👋🏴
From one Lorna to another…..I have been trying to master Tablet for years………who knew it would take another Lorna to perfect this recipe…..thanks a lot…….my family thanks you too! Have you got a good shortbread recipe????
If the sugar did dissolve and it became too grainy that it's hardly pourable, the sugars may have crystalised/candied too fast before you could stir/whisk them properly
@@LornaFYF20quid These people don't even know what true fudge is. Of course, it's supposed to be a bit grainy. This is exactly how I make it, by the way. Thanks.
Try the microwave method. Use icing sugar instead of regular. It turns out super smooth. Caster sugar is not as good. The main thing you want to happen is the condensed milk to turn brown and caramelise, and thicken.
It is totally pointless showing the ingredients on screen you need to list the ingredient in the subscription box on the right of screen. Each ingredient on a separate line.

Thank you, Lorna as I've just made my first ever batch of Tablet using your advice. Takes me back to my childhood in Glasgow!

I love you! This is the most no nonsense video of making tablet! And the only one which helped me make it correctly! Thank you!
Same! I come back for the third year now to make tablet for the holidays ❤️

Imagine getting spirked with boiling tablet while whisking. I'm going to need gauntlets

Looks fabulous!
Thanks!
Definitely going to try making this when I get the right pot. Thanks for creating & sharing! ✨
First time making your recipe and it seem to work first time thanks Lorna ❤❤
Excellent recipe Lorna, made tablet for the first time today. Thank you!
It's amazing Scotland hasn't produced the greatest number of Diabetics per Capita... :) Great Video!
Sorry to burst ur bubble but Sugar doesn't cause Diabetes. I'm a diabetic and I come here just to torture myself, lol
Would would be the temperature if you use a sugar thermometer. Or is it not that crucial.
Great advice regarding types of pots to use thank you! I nearly made a big mistake using non stick
This is proper tablet, proper colour. When Mum made it in the 60's we called it 'toffee' but it was this stuff. Happy days

I did mine and got to the whisking bit and it expanded as I was whisking and just went all crumbly. What did I do wrong? So disappointed
You kept it on stove too long
I bet the crumbly bits still tasted good.
I got a recipe fae google and it never said tae use a mixer just hope mine sets
Lorna can you do a chocolate Scottish Tablet recipe
You look like a Scottish tablet 😁😁😁😁🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi. I tried to make this and got to the whisking part. It turned out really grainy. Did I whisk for too long
It's supposed to be grainy! xx Lorna xx
When it turns grainy means sugar hasn't desolved enough sounds like you haven't boiled long enough good luck next time

Butter tablet is supposed to be grainy rather then smooth like fudge.
thanks so much for this Lorna! was super helpful and well explained
Looks so fine.Im gonna have a go.
It's difficult to make. It either goes grainy or sludgy, or grainy and sludgy. Basically I can't make it. 🏴😩

@@gavinlynas2833 I didn't know there was a microwave method 😄 That could get messy .......
Proper stuff.
Good job 👍
Love this tablet and so do other's at hoe and work😊
My brother was like you don’t put butter in tablets ;-; I just stared in darkness like “bruh”

This better work
Should be using castor Sugar...thats for your Tea that Sugar...
Crazycraigy
..its all the same...castor is just processed more to make it finer.
