  • The idea that resellers are ruining video game collecting has been common in UA-cam comments for as long as I've been following retro gaming UA-cam. I discuss my thoughts on reselling, resellers, UA-cam reseller content, and more.

    in short, yes. Emceemur, Kreesky and the biggest one Phoenix Resale has probably hurt the hobby more than most I have seen. I can understand the reselling to fund your collection and I generally do not care what people collect but when its just a means to make money it comes off horribly. Phoenix haggling at every game store, and convention and buying booths at cons just to shop early its just dirty. His knowledge of games starts and ends with prices as every video he seems to not know genres of games or even if its part of a series/franchise. Worst is it drives up the prices. He says he is a gamer but after the gamecube debacle its obvious he isnt. He does nothing for the community and complains when he see's the market is coming down on some games.

    Phoenix Resale is, in my opinion, ethically a crummy person. He isn't a collector, he's a pretender

      @Mrs.Information when you tell people, who cut you deals on games that they could have gotten more money for, by saying certain games you want are for your collection and you will be keeping them.
      To then only turn around and sell them for the profit that they could have gotten, and after giving your word that you were going to keep them is highly unethical.

      @Mrs.Information you should always be an ethical person when you are collecting, as best as you can.
      Phoenix is not, he's just opportunistic and cares nothing for the hobby

      @Mrs.Information if you lack personal ethics hey you look in the mirror at yourself, not me, I know that when I tell someone I will be hanging onto a game I hang onto it.
      My opinion will not change on Phoenix, he's a piece of garbage, he's not a true collector, and I know many other collectors personally who think exactly the same thing.

    Yep. “Investors” are ruining it. Reselling is not bad in itself, but when you turn it into your living or job, it ruins it for others. I’ve realized I collected one day, when I opened my closet, and it was packed with systems back from my childhood. It was fun for a while, actively collecting. Then Covid hit, WATA started, so I stopped actively collecting. Now I get stuff now and then, mostly at thrift stores.

    The main issue that I have is regarding the scummy resellers that talk trash about what they’re buying and getting into conventions early to snipe all the good deals from people who actually want those games. It’s the lack of ethics that hurts the community more than anything.

    I personally want games reprinted. All games from any era, I know its impossible to do but it would be great for people who just want to play the game. I personally just bought the reprint if painkiller for ps3 for $60 bucks. Before that reprint it was close to $300 for a used copy of it. Now i have a brand new copy and it only cost me $60. I dont care it was reprinted i just wanted to play the game. I know square enix was doing this for their psone games and allowed me to grab chrono trigger and FFIV for $20. A reprint and greatest hits meh still plays the same. Reprints would kill 80% of resellers as like books very few are collectors who "need" that 1st edition. So no more paying $100s of dollars for a game. But at least more of us could just play the game plus the devs still get a bit kick back as its not used even could do them on demand to save on cost. Just my 2 cents but I'm a huge supporter of reprints and wish more companies would do it especially on the rarer games.

      I appreciate VGP for getting official reprints. It's been really cool and has lowered the price on some stuff that has no reason to be so expensive.

      I like Phoenix Resale but he certainly falls into the "making an interesting video" camp of reselling rather than reselling advice. Nothing wrong with that though.

    I was at a flea market maybe around a year ago? Or so, and the games were so overpriced and the condition of the games weren't even that good. I very distinctly remember a copy of Luigi's mansion, which was dusty as hell like someone smeared sand over the cover, no manual and it was like $65.
    Why in the world would I pay that?

    Thoughts on certain resell channels (not mentioning names here) that not only use haggling for dirt cheap but also verbally back average everyday people into a corner until they drop their price for them to pick up?

    • @ObjoGaming
      @ObjoGaming  9 місяців тому

      I've seen some channels like that. Sometimes it's all in good fun but sometimes it feels obnoxious. It depends on how their relationship with the seller is but at the end of the day no one is making the seller sell to them, even if the camera adds some pressure to do so.

      @Mrs.Information game stores and all stores that sell games create jobs. It's not rocket science

    • @omegashenron8
      @omegashenron8 2 місяці тому

      @EthicalGameCollector You do realize that local game shop owners have to make money to keep the store running on top of making a profit and paying any employee's? So them charging a bit more for games is understandable. Not to mention most of their stock comes from locals selling/trading, not from poaching garage sales and FB market place so it isn't scummy like these resellers ripping off people that have no idea what they have and then flipping it for a stupid amount of money despite having none of the expenses a physical used game store does to justify it.
