Sagomes has gone now hasn't it, so sadly has Russell but when I went to Sagomes in 1997 his brother John Henderson took me there to get a quarto so it was nice to see and hear this, especially as I hadn't heard this one of Russell's. Thanks Mr Archive and your vinyl.
The first recording of "Brown Skin Girl" took place in 1947 at the RCA recording studio in Trinidad. It was funded by the Continental Record company of New York and later released on their label, along with several other songs recorded in the 1947 session. The original accompaniment was played by John "Buddy" Williams and his Blue-Rhythm Orchestra. In 1950 Edouardo Sa Gomes started his own record label, releasing this song (with accompaniment by Russell Henderson and his Orchestra) along with a few other classics like 'We Want Ramadin On The Ball' and 'Last Train To San Fernando'...
