- most sound of the uralics dont have all languages but this has all of the ones that have some materials that i could find!
also i am gonna privatize some of the old ones.
Sound of the finno ugric languages / uralic last video.
Vöro, seto, meänkieli, ludic and kven used to be called dialects but now have the official status of a seperate language and the kven language differs alot from finnish by the sami and norwegian influence. Meänkieli howerer is more questionable. Also for political reasons karelian used to be called a dialect of finnish but the most spoken dialect of karelian ( livvi ) differs from finnish the same amount as estonian. Ludic used to be called a dialect of karelian or vepsian but now is usualy called its own language. The numbers of ingrian speakers have risendue to revival efforts and i was able to find a modern song in izhorian the song was made in 2018!
Come to my discord / discord
Great compilation, I like it. I'd just like to add two things:
1. Hungarian vocabulary isn't only 21% of uralic origin. The biggest part (31%) is "uncertain", which means that linguistics didn't manage to prove where these words come from, probably partially uralic too.
2. Csángó is a Hungarian dialect. The vocabulary is a little bit different and sounds slightly archaic, but I understood every single word of the csángó song (sung by Sebestyén Márta, the greatest Hungarian folk singer of all time).
csango is mostly cosnidered a dialect but there is a small movement that wants to say its a language (similar thing with rauma dialect of finnish) and i decided to include it for that reason
These "uncertain" words could also become from an extinct language family, or extinct language isolate (even today a living language isolate, the Ket, is in the area not very far from the other Ugric peoples). That happened with Saami languages, the unclassified Paleo-European language(s) in the area became extinct, but left substrate to Saami languages. As Hungarians have as well as no haplogroup N, carried by the early Uralic peoples, an early language shift is possible.
@@forgottenmusic1 hungarians do have the haplogroup N just 3% but ancient hungarian graves had 15%, and if hungarian has yeniseian loanwords they would be of hunnic origin (huns were partly yeniseian)
@@forgottenmusic1 hungarians lost theN haplo due to constant wars and mixing with slavic tribes
@@valt8025 Well, I have seen another study claiming that N is only 1% in Hungary (and 2% in Romania according to the same source lol). As long as there are studies with just a few hundreds of samples, all we can agree with is just that this percentage is really low, not about the exact % (the funniest result I've seen was when it was claimed that Japanese are 98% genetically Japanese,; there were 50 samples, so 1 person appeared to be not...)
I brought the example of Kets just to claim that in theory, there could be more language isolates in the region back then, but it didn't have to be Yenisei area, could as well be anywhere the proto-Magyars were formed or staying for some period, like the area of Bashkortostan f.e.

Treasure of a compilation! Thank you so much for this enrichment.
What excites me about these are the clearly more modern pieces of music in these rare languages. (Also, the fact that many are in a distinctly recognizable eastern European disco beat makes you wonder what kind of flavors of their own such cultures might've developed in their music had they had a stronger surviving linguistic presence).

Где написано луговомарийский, там две песни. Первая действительно на луговомарийском, а вторая на горномарийском языке.
The karelian song was the best one i think 😄
This video is a true treasure. Internet is better thanks to this. Period
You have no idea how happy you made me with this video, and also the song choices, im glad you didnt used Kis grófó or something like that for the Hungarian one! Its also sad to see how many launguage are literally dying
Horthy Miklós :D
Kis Grófo can be used in the Indic languages compilation
Wow i never have heard of some, and how many speakers some of these have. Also incredible video 10/10.
Kiitos ! ❤ Greetings from Finland.
2:00 Karelian: Linnalaine neičyt
2:40 Ludic: Rupč
3:20 Vepsian: Kahten
These were made by the Karelian-Vepsian duo by the name of "Anna Tulla".
Ingrian and Izhorian are different languages, though. Ingrian diverged from Finnish, during the Swedish rule (I think, in like 1700’s, if memory serves); whilst Izhorian had diverged centuries, if not millennia prior.
I think this is The best uralic language video but still only 35 likes.

I am Swedish and proud of my roots in the Meänkieli and Sámi cultures!
Me too. I'm from the Finnish side of Tornevalley, but I have a lot of relatives on the Swedish side of Tornevalley
As a hungarian I can understand all of csángó its only a dialect.
Same goes to meänkieli that is identical to the Finnish dialects of Finnish Lapland. But if I say so there will be a dozen angry people telling how wrong I am.
yeah I'm so angry rn lol
Ain't no way Csango is a separate language from Hungarian I literally understand everything from the words to the sentence structure, it's the same
I agree. It is Magyar with a Székely inflection...
Csángó is ancient Hungarian!
Yeah, it sounds very Hungarian, as a language (I’m not Hungarian, though; I’m Finnish); although, the name: ”Csángó” sounds Sub-Saharan African, to me. As a Finn, I had the same experience with, like, half the songs toward the beginning.
Csángó is Hungarian. As a Hungarian I can understand every words from it.
How long until Rauma stops being a Finnish dialect and becomes its own language? I literally don't know what they're saying
You should add which language is in which branch(like Mordvinic, Ugric, Samoyedic etc)
Serious efforts must be made to preserve Nganasan language, but as a Hungarian, what can I do? I really want to do something
I live at Pondicherry, India. I know 7 languages, such as English, French, Ancient Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, Telugu( a native language of India) Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, all languages native to India. Thus I like your above video very much.
of course there is "kaartin paluumarssi/kauan on kärsitty" playing in the Finnish part XD
I was surprised on how much I understood meänkieli and kven. And yes. My native is Finnish
Well they are basically Finnish dialectcs 😁 They are classified as different languages only because they are spoken outside of Finland.
The Ludic song is beautiful!
Песня на ливонском тоже прекрасна! Как и на моём родном марийском.

Idk why some people claim that Csángó is a language. Its really not. Its hungarian from a couple hundred years back basically. And now its slowly going to die out in the heart of Romania. Thank you very much France
Edit: before any mad people arrive here, trianon was right however the borders arent. They should have made it by nationalities to avoid conflicts. But we all know that avoiding conflict was not what they wanted back then.
Csángó is a hungarian dialect, not a language. That's a fact. I don't know who the "some people" are, but they are wrong. Csángó dialect is totally intelligible to hungarians, although sometimes might be hard to understand because it was left out for centuries of language development.
I said that it is most of the time claimed as a dialect
Erzya has a dialect - Shoksha. This dialect appeared during the isolation of Erzya and the influence of the Moksha language on it.
(just interesting information)
@@l..k.i.1461 I always thought Shoksha is a dialect of the Moksha language
Did you know that if you move the sticks on the flag of Moksha, you will get something unacceptable.
You have noticed that the colors on Erzy's flag are the same as those of the German Empire😁
Eläkhöön Meänkieli!
using music as examples isn't good for language. it's hard to clearly make out text, especially language specific phonemes and stress patterns, with music in the background, and singing versus spoken text is less clear. this would be much more effective if it were just spoken examples.
Imagine the more years we go, the more less speakers makes me want to learn all, but i wouldn't anyways. 😂
The hill mari song is catchy, name? 27:41
The song is It Ojhyry (Ит ойхыры - Don't Cry) by Mikhail Tolstov and Lidiya Kuchera.

The hungarian is an old european neolitic or mezolitic langauge not uralic. Only CWC (Corded Ware Culture) bring this langauge to Ural area from Central-Europe.
You are wrong, the language is clearly uralic based on regular sound correlations such as /x/ -> /h/ or p-> f
Also for a warning don’t bring genes into linguistics because language and genes are inherited differently, also old hungarian graves were 15% uralic
