Thank you for the tour, Holy Rosary was an integral part of my husband's and my life many years ago. He lived in the parish from age 6-19. He was an altar server and explored the church many times over those years, He said you missed a few things by not exploring the undercroft, also. Some of the terms used in the Catholic Church, are Vestibule, Baptismal, Rose window, Sacristy, (Holy Rosary had 2, one on both sides of the altar), Altar, Chapel, Undercroft, the bell tower was called a Campanile, a term for that style of tower, Stations of the Cross, Choir Loft, ( high up into the entrance of the church, ) I am sure that you spoke with the current owners and got some of your terminology current to their denomination. The walk in baptismal was added by them. They also removed the kneelers from the pews, as most non catholic churches do not have them. The pews were painted and re-covered. The "pictures" are called Stations of the Cross, and were carved depictions of the last hours of Christ's life. I am saddened by the disrepair of the church, but was more saddened when it had to be sold, originally, I took refuge in the fact that it would stay a house of worship and not be torn down. Again thanks for the video!
It was a real treat to see this video. I am surprised at how much of the original interior is still intact. I grew up in this parish and have been in all of the places you have shown in the presentation. Thanks for sharing your explorations.
W👀w, I attended Saint Agnes church as a kid, and was so beautiful inside. That building has been closed for years, I cry a little everytime I passed it. I think all Catholic churches had all that beautiful marble floors and side panels.
This one almost made me cry. A beautiful place where people went to for comfort and solace is not being used. I hope they get the funds to repair. Neighborhood's change. There may be a need for the space soon. I was praying the whole time you were walking through. The bell tower reminded me of the movie Vertigo. Good old movie. Thanks for sharing
I really hope when the time comes a good salvage company comes in at some point to save some of the beautiful things in this church. Those pews, iron gates and wood ceilings are outstanding.
Its very sad that the church is falling apart. I am a Catholic went to Catholic grade school and high school in Iowa. I would think they would move those pews out, they can be sold. Even thou things are covered its not really going to protect the wood and fabric of items. It sure was a beautiful church in its time. I was surprised that the stations of the cross were still on the walls. Very good find. Thank you ever so much.
The “three dimensional pictures” are the Stations of the Cross. There are 14 of them and they are the depiction of the crucifixion. What a beautiful church. The Chapel is also beautiful. I used to play organ for the Cathedral here and it has a huge ,enormous, wonderful pipe organ in the choir loft.

So glad you did this video, seeing the inside as I have been by numerous times on the outside. The Columbus Foundation is trying to save this place, and I'm happy for that. One reason why it went into decline is that the neighborhood was very Catholic with the Old Saint Anne's Hospital at Kelton Avenue and Bryden road, and Saint Vincent's Orphanage at Main Street and Kelton Avenue, and those workers moved away. Holy Rosary was combined with Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

OMG what a beautiful church. It breaks my heart to see it deteriorating and not being used at least for something. The marble and gorgeous woodwork are stunning. An amazing view from the top of the bell tower. (That was a lot of steps)

That was spooky and sad. Once that building was so glorious. To see how it deteriorated from lack of use is disheartening . If only old buildings could talk we could know the true history 😮. What happened to the bells?
The best course I took in college was a humanities course. we went on field trips to a slew of old churches in Cleveland. It was awesome. We went through them with a guy from the Cleveland archives and he told us the history of each church. How they came from the old country and how there was a pc of the saint the church was named after. Hidden capsules, who and what type of architecture it was. We also got an inside tour of the largest pipe organ left in Cleveland. That was cool. We had to go through a decompression chamber to enter the inside or bowels of the organ while someone was playing it for us. There is one church we toured that has a pulpit that defies all architectural rules. They actually do not know how it stands. It is absolutely beautiful. I guess or we were told it actually toured the US and Canada.
Judging by what you described about the organ, I’m confident you were inside of a windchest built by the Austin organ company. Definitely a very cool way they built (and still build) windchests!
The holy rosary all should be praying. If the world did, this world would be a completely more enjoyable and loving place. This church was hugh. Always saddens me to think a guardian angel for this church remains, alone (or maybe not), watching over it until the building goes away, or the guardian is called back home. The Rose window is stunning. Vibrant! Also, the '3 dimensional pictures' you noted are the 14 stations of the Christ. The ship image is tied in with the church (think Christ walking on water while the apostles were in the boat)... interesting history there. The arched doorways are gorgeous! @@mowergal9776 Its sad to see. I was in Seattle and a church I was at closed due to a dwindling congregation. Oddly enough I was only there for one month. Now I am reassigned at a different church here in Texas. God is good!
One reason is families stopped having loads of kids. It wss also expensive. I had 6 brothers & sisters and by the 5th one my parents could no longer afford to send us to Catholic school. Plus, the nuns were mean.
It's sad that so many of these beautiful Catholic churches are being shut down due to low attendance which in turn equates to low funding. These churches require a lot of $ to keep running. Since people rarely attend church anymore, these churches close and rot away. Ohio, especially Cleveland, had to closed several huge beautiful Catholic church in the past 5 years. In the early 1900s my Great Grandparents helped build St. Coleman Catholic Church in Cleveland. It's still open, but, barely. If you get a chance, go check it out,, before it closes. Its gorgeous.
Confessionnal, the priest would be in the middle and the people who wanted to make the confession on each side ... the openings on the side are not doors, you could talk to the priest in the middle through those ... :-)
This church hasn't been Catholic since at least the middle if not the early 80s. Since at least 1985 it was Rock Of Faith Baptist Church. I knew a lady who attended here. She lived only 2 or 3 blocks away from here. I went to a wedding here in the late 80s or early 90s. I had no idea Rock of Faith Baptist Church left this building. Rock of Faith had a small congregation so that may be why they left. Now I wonder if Rock of Faith still exists or did it permanently close down.
I wonder if these were originally built to be something different than a Church. I mean there so old possibly Mudflood and the bell tower always interested me in what it's true purpose was.
Those pictures in the church are called the stations of the cross. If you look around the church you will see several pictures. Those pictures depict the scenes of the day when Jesus was crucified. I just wish we could easily move a structure like this. We have a lot of churches, but they are not enough to contain the faithful. Holy masses, especially on Sundays and holy days fill up the churches and overflow to the parking lots and streets. What an architectural waste!
Maybe the Fraternity of Saint Peter could buy it and use this church as it was meant to be used … no “baptismal pool” - 🤮 … bring back the beauty of our churches!
In the first couple minutes of the video I explain that the church is still owned and looked after by the pastors family. They no longer hold services here and do what they can to maintain. The school on the same property is actually condemned and the church will most likely be in the next couple years.
It's obviously no longer a Catholic church. I think a previous comment said it was a Baptist church at the end. Catholic priests are not allowed to marry.
If all they are doing is letting these places just stand and rot until they are torn down why not let reputable salvage companies come in and salvage before it’s just all rubble from wasting away over time. I don’t get it.
I believe that temples are expensive for sale, and the location is also bad, many of these temples close their doors due to people moving to other cities, so it is difficult to even find sales for these buildings
It could have started out as a Catholic Church, but after the diocese started to loose money they closed and other denominations may have bought the vacant buildings.
@@dlodge4966 Married men can only become Catholic priests in the Eastern Rites. The Western Church, no. Also, are you talking about some sect not in union with the church?
Dr.Who1980 Productions no you can not marry once a Priest but if you already are married they allow it...very rare, in Florida he was a convert and he did not have a Church he was back up Priest and such.
"This pictures are 3 dimensional". Excuse me, those are the Stations of the Cross, not "pictures". Another faux pas: " the pastor's son" in a Catholic church? Does the Bishop know?

The school on the same property is actually condemned and the church will most likely be in the next couple years.
@@OnceOccupied Thanks missed the start I guess.
Pastors son?!!!
Loved the church........I question though that it is a Catholic church ...priests are not allowed to merry,, so he could not have had a wife.
It could have started out as a Catholic Church, but after the diocese started to loose money they closed and other denominations may have bought the vacant buildings.
Actually you can be married and become a Catholic Priest. They do not have a Church they are the sub and travel between Churches to do Mass.
I belive he stated the Pastor and his son, who is also a Pastor.
The ship signifies the Christian s coming to the new world .An when christianity dies so do we
"This pictures are 3 dimensional". Excuse me, those are the Stations of the Cross, not "pictures". Another faux pas: " the pastor's son" in a Catholic church? Does the Bishop know?
