My friend has a Husky / Shepherd mix and he does the same when you don’t give him table food.
He then lies down and does the (very loud) harumph LOL

At the local shop where I get my whisky, one of the guys there has the most adorable grey pitbull and she's the biggest attention hound on earth. Hard to believe, but she's worse then Key when it comes to demanding the pets and scratches, especially a good butt scratch. She weighs over 70 lbs, and insists she's a lapdog so is always trying to sit on the guys at work and when I come in she tries to jump into my arms like a puppy. Thanks to you, I can almost see subtitles whenever I see her, rather disconcerting to say the least, as she makes ZERO noise, almost a mime, lol.
It's the eyes, dogs have the most expressive eyes and eyebrows next to humans, they've mastered reading us and imitating us to the point that we've become a symbiotic species.
Except for the food part, no matter how hard they try they can't get us to give them what/as much as they want, hehe.
