I cannot say enough about your teaching style. You really help me on every lesson of yours ive watched. Thank you so much! Native Kentuckian living in san Francisco California!!! Cheers!!
Well, thanks so much, mate! I appreciate your kind words. Glad the lessons work for you.
Close enough for me! Great. Thanks. 🎼
Feel like I learned the best song. In world. This is fun to play. Thanks.
You’re most welcome!
That chord that begins with the G chord is a Gsus4 chord. When you move from the B note to the C note that is the sus4.
Intro made me sing "well my name's John Lee Pettimore" :))
Nice! It’s a great song.
I'd love to play Matty Groves by Fairport Convention on the ole mondo, loved the Steve Earl, I'm gonna learn that , thank you.
@@thepetspider No worries!
@@RockPopMandolin Thank you, I've just watched you doing R E M. ,amazing.
@@thepetspider Thanks, again.
Great lesson. Im not really a mandolin player, but every time i pick it up I have a great time!
Great! Me too!
i've watched half a dozen Copperhead Road how to's over the last couple of days and this one sounds the closest to the original . good enough for a subscription !
Oh, thanks dude! Really appreciate your kind comments. And subscription!
I'm a guitarist and a beginner fiddler. It only seems natural if not obligatory that I get a mandolin in the future. What a beautiful sound!
Yes, and thanks. The mando has the same tuning as the fiddle. Cheers!
Same tuning, fingering and voicing. I have a decent mandolin for sale. Where are you ?
Nice one! This song convinced me to buy a mandolin some years ago. I still can't find a lesson or a tab for that intro part steve earle plays at some live versions. (For example Farm Aid 1997) It would be awesome to see something about that. I love your channel. Keep it up!
Nice
Spot on. Long live mullets.💈
Yeah, for sure! But mine is long gone. Lol!
Just started learning it.
Awesome, dude. Enjoy!
@@RockPopMandolin I've been playing mando for a little over a year. Just found your UA-cam channel recently.
First twenty seconds taught me enough, thank you!!
Cool! Glad it worked for you!
thanks, been lookin to learn this for 30 yrs.
Awesome! Have fun with it!
@@RockPopMandolin thanks again, motivated me to put the guitar down and pull out the lin
This is my second lesson on the mandolin in 2 days. I play both songs on guitar so it seems a little easier than I thought. Thing is, the small frets and my fat fingers getting in the way.
Never played a mandolin before. I got this far this quick because YOU are an awesome teacher.
BTW the A6 chord is toughy on this F model
That’s great to hear! Good luck with it!
Hey just wanted to say thanks for this. First lesson I checked out on this song but it does sound correct. Just started playing the mandolin about a week ago. Subscribed.
Thanks! Have fun with the mando!
I’m so glad to have found you. I’m getting a mandolin for Christmas, and I am more into the rock than the bluegrass. I hope to learn several of the songs that you showcase! ☮️
So cool! I’m sure you’ll love it. If you want to get started on the right foot, check out my lessons at www.rockpopmandolin.com
@@RockPopMandolin Thanks!
Come up to Omiya, Saitama and play it for us at our Open Mic!
Love too. But a bit far for me.
Yes, this is a great one. Hoping you do fire on the Mountain grateful dead version and some Munford and Sons in the future. Much gratitude for the lessons.
Arigato gozaimasu!
Do itashi mashite! I love Mumford. I’ve been considering a couple of their tunes. Trouble is, they tend to use unusual guitar tunings. I’ll see what I can do.
Oh yes, some Grateful Dead tunes, please. Fire on the Mountain and Friend of the Devil.
One of the most accurate sounding versions I’ve heard. Thank You for the videos!
Thank you for the kind comments!
My mandolin arrives tomorrow. This is the first song I'm going to try to learn. I have the acoustic guitar version figured out. Subbed!
So cool! Thanks! You will love the mandolin. My guitars are jealous that I don't give them much attention these days. lol!
Thank you Mike!!!! Been learning this for weeks with other videos and been waiting eagerly for your version :) you just made my week!
Oh, that’s so awesome! You just made mine too! Have a blast with it!!
I have been waiting for this, thank you.
No worries!
Great lesson!! Thank you!!! Keep up the good work. I'd love to hear some more "pop country" lessons. :)
You got it!
Great video Mike!!!
Thanks Ray!
Got it love it played it
Great tutorial! Thanks for all the great content! I've subscribed!
No worries. Welcome on board!
Great lesson!
Thanks!
Nice content. Thanks!!!
No worries! Thanks!
Chords used are D, G, Gsus4. Gsus4 is an inverted Csus2.
Right! Thanks!
I love it thanks very nice SIR
Thank you!
Nice job. I know you are showing what he played on that version. For interest and less repetition on the main riff I do an alternating riff (not alternate) on what you are showing. I see this in a lot of pop music. Keeps it interesting and less repetitive. And also less repetitive. So on the D I go: 0-2 4 2 0 0-2 / D 4 4-5 5 5-4 0 0-2. Not for everyone, but some may like the change. And you can do either or both and it doesn’t matter if you screw up as long as you get back to the D on time to keep that drone going. And yes that’s the key to this song. So the 2002 version of D sounds way better. I bet this will sound great with a dropped D or DDD guitar to add to that drone. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds cool! The thing with many of these songs is that they are open for embellishments like that. Steve Earle even plays this one differently from time to time.
Nice tune!
Yeah, it’s a classic.
Definitely is Gsus4. I was doing it as C but it sticks out like a sore thumb. Thank you for your explanations.
No worries!
You have to show us how to do the Mandalorian theme song
Do you do battle of evermore?
Can you figure out Back In The High Life Again by Steve Winwood?
I’ll check it out! Thanks!
I'm a beginner, and I'm pretty sure I can learn this
Awesome! Have fun with it!
Could play the The Weight by the Band
I’ve already done that one here: ua-cam.com/video/nBqSXD2j4pw/v-deo.html
Close but not exactly what Earle does. He keeps his middle finger on the second fret of The E string throughout the entire D chord and uses his ring and pinky to hit the 4th and 5th frets of the G string. That way he can strum all the strings throughout that sequence and maintain the F# on the E string. Watch his live videos and that's clearly what he does.
Cool, thanks. But I've seen him do it differently on various UA-cam videos. Mostly, I've seen him avoid the E string. Check out this video around :46. He doesn't use the pinky at all. So I guess there are several ways to play it.

Pelease!!! She's a rainbow Rolling Stones, in mandolin tutorial. Please!!
Good suggestion. Thanks.
@@RockPopMandolin I appreciate the kindness of your answer. 🙂👍
Anyone happen to hve a tab for this?
What pick are you using?
A Blue Chip TD-50!
This is a great video but could you please have arrows or something to tell us the strumming paddlers like ⬇️⬇️⬆️⬆️⬇️⬆️ for instance
But besides that good video
Thanks for checking out the video!
Play the moutain please
Huh? Sorry. Don’t understand.
Will you teach the mountain by Steve earl please. It's my favorite song. Need it in my arsenal.
@@pablo6305 I don’t know that one. But I’ll have a look at it.
