- They did it! After 3 and 4 weeks of sitting on their nests, the hen and duck hatched their chicks and ducklings! Find out how many of each and if their moms are taking care of them. This is the 3rd episode of Broody Duck videos in which I show what a broody hen and duck look like and now the eggs are ready to hatch! It is our first experience with a duck and hen hatching their own young and we're so excited to watch it happen. They both started sitting on their eggs the same day, so 3 and 4 weeks later we have little chicks and ducklings. Find out how many out hatched, why some didn't work, and see how cute they are. Watch them eat their first food, forage into the yard, and parade around the other animals.
New life on the homestead. Much fun too see.
Love the ducks

I have a farm too but it is still very enjoyable to watch this video. The miracle of birth is always a joy. Thank you for the video.

So cute!!
Not growing up on a farm, it was helpful what you taught us with how mom teaches the chix. 😊so amazing.
The best home school - circle of life. ❤
Cute
Ohhhh, those ducklings are too adorable! We have chickens and guineas but haven't yet gotten ducks and I can't wait!!
We have 2 broody hens right now. I don't really need any more chickens but the chicks are just too cute.

The hours are counting down, Miss Roby! 🤗🥰🙏

@@robynearl Wahoo! So exciting!
What an exciting spring for you both! I'm so happy and grateful for y'all! Enjoy their happy, tiny chirps and darling days of discovery. 🤗🥰🙏
Such a cool video. I love your videos.
Adorable.
I enjoyed this so much! Thank you for sharing!
We’ve hatched and raised chicks but never ducks. They are adorable!
Love the miracle of life.🥰❤️ Do you have any trouble with predators?
Yes, we've lost a few. None lately, but we've had a raccoon, opossum, fox and hawk all take a turn getting a chicken over the years. I imagine all chicken keepers have losses, even our friends in the city have lost theirs to raccoons.
I've read that you can plant lemongrass & marigolds around the chicken coop to deter snakes. And use wire mesh along the parameter. Cute chicks & wonderful family farm video!
Good to know! I wish they were perennials. It would cost a lot to plant them around the chicken yard year after year. Do you know any perennials that deter snakes?
@@singlemomonafarm marigolds are so so easy to reseed every year. Buy a pack of seeds or splurge on a few plant starts and you will never have to buy again. Might be worth the investment.
This was a fun vlog
Too Cute! Thanks.
What do the Chick drink? I've never raised Chickens.
Do you put out a small water tray for the chicks?
Yes, they have a small water tray that just lets out a little water at a time so they can't fall in or anything.
You aren't supposed to mess with the chickens or ducks while the eggs are hatching.
I would venture that "aren't supposed to" kept children and adults from exploring and learning.
I knew someone would say that, but we wanted to see as much as possible in case we don't get broody animals again. And I can't do much of a video without showing them hatching. But they're all healthy and doing good so all's well that ends well. Definitely a fun experience! My kids have prayed that our hens would raise their own b/c years ago their friends's hens did. So I'm glad we had this one opportunity. I'm always happy when their prayers are answered.
We sneak peaks too then give them back. Our one and only bantam named lemon puff hatched out two..one yellow and one striped. They weren’t her eggs but two bantam eggs I was given by a friend with bantams. Our little chicken lover community is always exchanging eggs to diversify our barnyard mix. Some breeds are gentle while others are pretty saucy. I have little bruises on my arms at times if I’m not wearing long gloves or heavy sleeves…I steal eggs multiple times a day to protect from Ravens or just breakage from too much rearranging. I would add that I will separate a broody hen and eggs from flock so they survive. As they get bigger I open area and allow the mother hen to determine integration back in to the flock. Often she will return them to their safe brooder area but eventually she will reincorporate to flock and drive her young uns to independence
Love you guys Wow look at all those eggs!!!!🎉
