Psalm 23 to The Bays of Harris

- The Scottish Psalter version.
1 The Lord's my shephard, I'll not want.
2 He make me down to lie
In pastures green: he leadeth me
the quiet waters by.
3 My soul he doth restore again;
and me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
ev'n for his own name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale,
yet will I fear none ill:
For thou art with me; and thy rod
and staff me comfort still.
5 My table thou hast furnished
in presence of my foes;
My head thou dost with oil anoint,
and my cup overflows.
6 Goodness and mercy all my life
shall surely follow me:
And in God's house for evermore
my dwelling-place shall be.
The sweetest far of Scotia's holy lays:
Compar'd with these, Italian trills are tame;
The tickl'd ears no heart-felt raptures raise;
Nae unison hae they, with our Creator's praise......From scenes like these, old Scotia's grandeur springs
That makes her lov'd at home, rever'd abroad.
I am sure that God wants His church to go back to where He wants it to be in these dark times. No mega bucks, no mega audiences, no wide path to the wicket gate, just honest love and worship to Him who made us all. This singing is such a hymn of praises that God must be smiling and welcoming the changes we can put back into His creation. We need to share this song to make our brothers and sisters aware of its goodness and mercy. CSB x
I really agree with your comments .There is a genuineness in the overall sound of this singing .
The soul is warmed and I must admit I am not overly religious.
I agree. 24/11/2023

Greetings from S.E. Ireland. Heavenly rendition of this psalm. Buíochas libh go léir. Thank you all. Have been to Harris.
Ciamar a tha sibh Moireach, thought I'd add the words for those who like to sing along. Thanks for posting. This is a favorite tune of mine. It was a favorite of a dear friend of mine, who has since gone to Glory, as well. Tapadh leibh!

Beautiful!!!
The tune really goes with the words... Much better than Crimond, I say.
Wonderful....just thinking that a few years later I became a Sunday School Teacher at Bourtree Free Church in Irvine Ayrshire....such a wonderful experience....
Worship with everyone taking part..... not simply listening to a "lead singer" and a band all playing through a microphone .
Indeed - worship is congregational, not exclusive to a select few...
...Battle Hymn for good over evil ...lead on ...great images ...and authentic singing ..couldn't be better...
Love this, praise the Lord x
David, is there anywhere that I can download all these psalms? I love listening to them but I want to be able to take them with me on my mp3 player.
my god that was beautiful I would have loved to been there...
The Bible commands us to sing Psalms and hymns. Hopefully more church become obedient.
Beautiful
just beautiful........
Lovely tune -- I don't believe I've ever heard it before. Reminds me of some traditional Sacred Harp recordings I heard a while back.

Beautiful pictures of islands where there is a surfeit of visual delight.
Those are the beautiful Hebride Islands of Scotland.
Wonderful singing
LOVE LOVE THIS!

Wonderful! Congratulations!
Bela canção! Obrigado por compartilha-las.
You're right 86preacher. There are a lot of Gaelic tunes that would go well with this Psalm if it was not for that same thing.
Amen

Spoiled by being sung in the colonists tongue.
Yes, it would have been more beautiful and more meaningful if it were sung in the native tongue!
Do you see the irony of using the colonists' language to communicate your bitterness? History has a habit of being unchanged despite a collective angst. God bless.
