You're the only guy I know that can get away with building the whole model without a drop of paint and then afterwards you've made it look like you've spent months painting it and putting it together. Crazy! You are one bad ass modeler my friend. 👍🏻
A commentator once said that Fred Astaire made everyone want to dance and that Gene Kelly made everyone think he could dance...that's how Andy's videos are when it comes to model building.
I have always been putting together 1/35 Tamiya tanks ever since they came out in the 80s. That brand is the best. Easy to follow instructions and easy to assemble too. I really recommend them to all levels of tank hobbies.
There's an E8 parked as a monument at a former military base about 130km from my home. It was war surplus bought up from the US and served with the Canadian Army in Korea. This kit looks perfect to model it. I'll have to free-hand the markings, which should be quite a challenge.
I don't know how you put the lower hull and suspension in 2 hours. It took me 6 hours just to clean up the road wheels. Hats off to you for a great build!
awesome build, like you I've built all brand of shermans, and that one looks awesome, and not over engineered, like other companies, they all look awesome, BUT I don't like losing birthdays trying to get them built, lol. really like tamiyas new details, thanks for the peek, yup must have
Andy, thank you so much for posting such detailed and informative videos! Like my father did with me, my young son and I have totally gotten into building tanks and it's awesome. Our models look sooooo much better than the ones I built as a kid back in the early 80's. Your videos are a big part of that. I just placed an online order with your shop. Great prices, great selection. I'm glad I can do something to give back for you sharing your skills with us. Keep on with the videos, we love them!
getting ready to start on this kit, I got it for Christmas but was working on a few other kits I already had. I know what ya mean with the carpet color, mine is green, I use a flashlight at different angles, even shining at floor level to try and find them lill' jumpers. thank you for sharing
I just moved into a new house and my previous workspace was a grey concrete floor in the basement, I could usually find those jumpers pretty quickly. Well this house I am on the main floor with a wooden floor. In order to protect the wood floor I bought matting, the type you might see in a gym. This stuff is indestructible! In that respect it is great, but the black color means it absorbs parts like the olive drab parts of this kit like a sponge! I think white colored plastic would be welcomed. 3/4 done with the build and it is, as expected, and like Andy has said, a joy to put to together. Cheers!
I Love Tamiya kits when ever I'm building a Dragon kit I always have a Tamiya kit on the go at the same time some times simple is better and I find the the fit is often better. Don't get me wrong they both make great kits
Iv got this easy 8 and the fury kit what I did notice was when putting the boggies on the fury kit was abit easier having the longer pins to install them iv had a couple through time fall off on the tamyia e8 kit using same CA I'm using the lighter quick setting one now all the time I think its alot better at holding just need to watch out for finger prints if not used to using the glue
Awesome build and review. I always enjoy watching your build videos. . . I think it is the classical music :) Moreover, like how you display the instruction sheet. Looking forward to acquiring this kit someday. Unfortunately, I need to whittle down the stash first!
When you complete the tank up to the airbrushing stage, instead of airbrushing can you use Tamiya spray cans at the exact same level of completion in the kit. or do you have to paint it earlier and in smaller parts if using spray can.
Brett Bricker it seems Dragon doesn't care so much about the "Dragon Card" and all the goodies the mid and late 2000s kits were known for. That and it seems that now that they are fully established as one of the big boys on the block they have cut back on quality as well and upped the price because of the "name." Tamiya may not have full interiors and 1000 plus parts counts but I still prefer Tamiya over all other companies. You know the kit is going to be extremely well engineered and is basically "idiot-proof." I just picked up this kit today though Andy. Your review has made me itching at the bit to get started.
What is the cement you are using? Does it dry fairly quickly? I know it is sped up, but seems like you're going through very quickly. I am probably going to buy this fairly soon and that cement seems to work very well.
I just bought this kit...for Xmas....LOL. Since I just build German Armor, I will make it an Easy 8 "captured by the germans!...(same as my T34 and KV2)....Those Germans...capturing everything! Sorry E8....going panzer!... (even have the german crew). Nice Video as usual Andy!...congrats.
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters ok thanks for letting me, your hobby shop looks awsome man! But I have one question, do you have a video showing how to paint camoflouge with a spray can? Like the faded look where you just spray it on, instead of doing a specific pattern, I don't want to buy an airbrush as I'm not serious into model kits, only have like 5 so far, plan on doing more tho, your vids really help though! :)
Great kit!☺, currently working on one. Great fit, but on the downside, missing some details. Such as no tow cables/ or nylon string. Also molded on hach handles. Otherwise great buy for the money. Great video. Regular subscriber here. Thanks.
That looks great...are you using an Iwata airbrush? And kudos to your compressor for keeping the pressure consistent...I am building this M4 and found your video very helpful. Thank you

Hi Andy Love the way you do your build videos just straight forward build and paint and I love the classical music. One question do you use enamel or acrylic paints? Vic Parratt (England)
Vic, All the Tamiya and Vallejo paints are acrylic, easy to use and keep your equipment clean. I often use oil paints as well it is well worth experimenting because once you seal it with some TS 80 you can just keep layering anything that you want. Acrylics dry so quickly that you can just paint and paint layer after layer with virtually no down time .
amazing but the wood on the side looks kinda off, should have painted it with darker brown with patterns. (it's way too bright) that being said, amazing video thanks :)
Andy, I just finished building the Tamiya Easy Eight Sherman, using some ideas from your video. Many thanks! I noticed you glue onto painted surfaces. How does that glue hold? I'm used to removing paint prior to gluing or using Elmer's. BTW, I have the new Sherman on my shelf alongside a 1970's Tamiya [motorized] Sherman, one of my first kits! Tamiya has a 1/35 Sherman Firefly on their website; hope you get one soon!
Since the fury model is to expensive for me I will just get a m4a3e8 paint it gray then find 6 sticks outside cut it evenly tie it on the tank with a rope have it hang loose and rocks and a tannish fabrics to represent the bags
Wow, I'm so excited about the release of this kit - I couldn't believe I stumbled onto a full build of it!! Kit looks amazing! I recently completed the Academy M4A3E8 and, while it wasn't too difficult and built up into a nice model, it was far more fiddly (from what I saw on your build) than this new Tamiya offering. Great video and I instantly subscribed! Thanks for showing us this... do you have any idea when the kit will be available for purchase?
Bought one of these. Both the main hull and main deck are twisted and deformed. Doubt if I can use them at all. This is the second AHHQ 1/16 kit I’ve received with this problem. Horrid quality control.
What paint did you use for the olive drab? Also when I am going to put this kit together I'd like to know if there is an obvious line where the bottom of the hull meets the top? Thanks
Hi Andy, Well you have done another great build, I have just a couple of questions, I note that you seem to always 'pre' glue your parts, why is this? and you never seem to undercoat, just paint straight on, again why? apart from that I enjoy your work. Les (Australia)
+Les Thiele Im not sure what you mean pre glue , I put glue on the separate pieces first ,it allows the plastic to begin to dissolve and when you put them together they stick fast and strong. As for undercoat I have never found it necessary to on darker models. Thanks for watching
Yo Andy, I've seen some people keep most of the suspension parts and wheels off and put them on when the rubber parts are fully sprayed, and the center is painted green perfectly. I've seen some of your videos and you don't seem to do that. Are there any reasons why? I'm just starting out as a modeler and I've got this kit as my second, so I'd like to know, because I really want the suspension and wheels to look nice haha
Idk if this will be lost in the comments and im sure you covered this in other videos but...what cement do you use? I would actually like this product.
+David Smith Good question, was wondering myself. Getting back into model building myself (after 35 years) only to see many new choices in building materials. Does this glue act like CA in that it sets fast?
Again Andy what is the paint process without an air-brush? I like the movie Fury so I do want to build this eventually. Would like to professionalize my modelling with painting. I guess again that you spray paint some then hand brush a lot? What do I use to finish it and do i use hair-spray?
