@Setzer K I mean, that's kinda to be expected no? They basically pioneered a notch that rivals the screen real estate of hole punch displays, and this was also during a time when bottom bezels being nonexistent wasn't really much of a thing yet. I definitely wouldn't pick it over a, say, Oneplus 6T or something, but I would say that there's no room for argument that they implemented a feature that was far ahead of its time that was far better than the competition's for a long while to boot. The chin is definitely a bit jarring nowadays, but that screen real estate was pretty new if not unseen nearly 3 years back.

I don't think so, cause waterproofing a 3.5 millimeter hole is difficult, also, getting that hole out of a block of aluminum, Stainless Steel or Titanium, is also pricey.

And if you drop it in a little water you can grab it and you WILL grab it out quickly enough that the internals won't be ruined. If you drop it in a lake or something it won't matter if it's waterproof or not..
F2shy idiot it’s not waterproofing it’s water resistance nobody in their right mind would wet their phone without a case on purpose (unless it’s a water test) but accidental splashes from drinking or sweat or the vapor from a hot shower could damage ur phone if it doesnt have water resistance and having water resistance on a 3.5 mm h jack is hard to achieve

Stupid, Headphone jacks are 'Essential' because wireless headphones aren't always great at syncing, it would dissconnect and would even makes the sounds get delays. Also why do phone companies take out the headphone jack when adding new hardware into the phone? Samsung can make their phones Water proof, Fire proof, Shock proof, Dust proof and have wireless charging and yet still have a headphone jack. You spend more money on a phone with less features then a cheap phone that has everything. Heck the phones that have no headphone jack don't even give you a wireless headset.
What's the difference between gorrila glass 3,4,5 if all scratch at 6, also, lack of headphone jack negates this as essential, Bluetooth speakers are not mainstream and good ones cost a lot.

The headphone jack is pretty much the most essential thing on a phone, IMO. Wireless headphones are mostly gimmicky devices with low sound quality, and they end up being yet another device that needs to be charged every day.
It's almost insulting to consumers for a $700 phone to call itself "essential", while missing something as basic as a headphone jack. Or an IP rating, for that matter.
"low sound quality" I'd trust a DAC from an audio equipment manufacturer over a DAC from a phone manufacturer any day.
I am sorry can you use a DAC with a bluetooth headphones ? And yes as long as you cant the wireless headphones have really low quality compared even to the worst phone DAC I have tried.

You'd be surprised how good some bluetooth headphones sound, batteries last 12 hours of use which is plenty and getting rid of that cord is so liberating.

Martin Adytia I can tell you the truth Martin. It's a total scam. I tried it on an old S4 I had, just to check it. I got a well known one called Crystalusion. It worked ok for a while until suddenly the on screen keyboard started typing the wrong letters as the coating messed up the sensitivity and.........after a week some beach sand scratched through the coating to the screen. If you look at EVERY single UA-cam video of people selling this shit you won't see even one serious scratch test, all they use are keys and coins that won't scratch the gorilla glass anyway. Nobody uses a mohs pick to prove that it's harder than the original screen because it is isn't. Don't waste your money bro.

The monochrome camera uses the fact that more bits of light info can be packed into a photo of it's ignoring chroma (color). The phone combines images from the two lenses to make incredible low light photos, in color. The monochrome sensor massively reduces the noise of the colour lens. The option to take monochrome pictures is honestly secondary. Seriously, check out Essential's camera blog, excellent tech

I'm pretty sure the monochrome camera isn't just for black and white pictures. Monochrome cameras receive more light than color cameras. Combine the two and you get the best of both worlds.
Those two magnetic holes in the back, are actually for a 360° camera! I know it because my dad has the Essential and the 360° camera.
Definitely do a drop test. I dont understand why a drop test isnt part of your durability tests in the first place. The only reason I upgrade phones is because I've dropped it and the screen cracked/stopped working. Is there a reason you dont include this anyway?
Because there is no way how to make them accurate. Phone will always drop differently no matter what you do for it. That means these are not drop best, but just "Let's see how lucky it falls, test" :)

I still have this phone in Nov 2020. I've went through a few screen protectors, but I'm telling you it looks NEW. New as the day I bought it. I'm going to have to replace it soon because its no longer getting android updates and the battery is wearing out like in all older well used phones, but with stock android, no bloatware like facebooks uninstallable apps etc, and its amazing build quality, it has been a truly excellent phone and I'm sorry essential is no longer in business.
Oh and the fingerprint scanner on the back always worked flawlessly as well. This one was worth the money.

Had this phone for over a year. It's nice. Very durable, no bloatware, unlocked bootloader, hardware is very powerful. My only gripes are the lack of headphone jack and microSD slot, non-removable battery, and some early models had issues with faulty memory.
