- Ever since the end of iland2, people whose picks didn't make it have been wondering what went wrong, especially for a contestant like Fuko who was considered pretty much a lock. In this video, through a straightforward analysis, i'll explain to you the exact reason your faves failed.
(Disclaimer: i only talked about those contestants that went far in the competition as there was more to analyze and more to say about them, whereas i didn't really have an opinion on the others)

fukos' fans dropped her too. They said they voted for others because she was 100% going to be a producers pick which is weird. Fuko also wasn't everyone top. Into the new world also made people not like her much because people questioned her leadership.
This thing about people watching survival shows and not voting for popular contestants cause they are supposedly locks for debut is possibly the dumbest thing ever.
That’s literally the reason so many popular trainees unexpectedly don’t make it and people still haven’t learned the lesson…

Tbh i completely agree with the comparison between jungeun and fuko.
Neither of them had an impactful storyline that made them stand out, but jungeun simply had those crazy vocals and that’s what made her memorable.
If jungeun had not been carried by her impressive vocals then i’m almost sure fuko would have debuted as the second vocalist along with jiyoon (who had an incredible story arc)
Jungeun apparently auditioned as a main dancer and she also seems like an okay rapper (at least sub-rapper).
Either way, I feel like the girls who did debut have potential, it just matters if they will work with that potential (both the girls and the company) or not. Time will tell since they are not a project group :D
Well also Jungeun also fell to 10th place so her fans got worried and voted for her.
Also what made me decide to vote for her over Jeemin (who was originally my one pick) was that knetz were harshly criticizing her visuals and made some derogatory comments about her and how she looked like a "foreigner" even though she's not a foreigner and it made me angry. So I voted for her because I thought koreans wouldn't and I thought it was unfair that someone so talented might not debut for such a shallow reason. Jungeun deserved that number 1 spot and I am happy global fans recognized that.
Jungeun is not only a good singer, she is an amazing dancer and i love her sp, she is not my pick only because her voice, she is also beautiful
The main reason Fuko didn’t debut is because she didn’t have a huge one pick fanbase, she was in nearly everyone’s top 6 but she wasn’t taht many peoples top 1. Another thing is that the few people that did have her as their top 1 didn’t prioritise voting for her as they thought she was safe
exactly, like she was in my top 6, but my one pick was either koko or jiyoon, and the reason i never considered fuko isn't even because i thought she was safe but because she doesn't have an interesting storyline/arc in the show, she's always just been... there. plus, i really didn't think her vocals and style suited the direction the group was going for, which i did take into consideration while voting.
slight side tangent, i do think that jungeun placing 10th in that one mission was part of a strategy to make people jump at voting for her, since a lot of people started to assume she was safe because she was always top but her dropping down made a lot of people vote. they knew the group needed her for vocals, so i think that's also where a lot of votes which otherwise would have gone to fuko or other trainees went, because of the scare of jungeun maybe not making it to the lineup.
This! Mai was my N1, regardless talent, i always voted for her, just cause i liked other girls i didnt stop voting for her, i could never be sure of the status of her debut lmao, Fulo fans failed her
Its sad that Fuko didn't debute, however it is absolutely horrible how her fans are viciously bullying Mai. Like where was this energy during voting??? The entire situation has turned me into an avid Mai supporter & defender

I cant say Im Mai's biggest fan right now. However, considering this isn't a project group and all, Im hoping i will grow to like her more once they debut and then have cbs.

@@mimimamam0m0 Nah, I dont hate any of them, I either loved, liked them or was indifferent to them. For Mai, I was indifferent to because her vocal tone (?) is just not my favorite but I guess I cant complain, at least its not that high pitched one everyone finds 'cute' (and I dont :D)
fuko fits more in concept like red velvet, kep1er(chaehyun vibe), kwon eunbi(solo/ izone era) so she’s not gonna be producer’s pick. hopefully she will debut in soft bright girlgroup in near future
i agree, judging by what seems to be the group's future concept/sound, i also don't think it would have been the best fit for Fuko.
i think Kep1er can add her on their lineup since they lose 2 japanese girls anyway and she kinda fits their songs

Pretty spot on, it also makes sense to consider Gyuri as just a piece of the puzzle to boost Sarang’s story arc and to create a sort of false illusion of an unexpected debut.
She was one of my top picks and i’m sad she didn’t make it, but realistically speaking she never had a real shot at debuting. She was simply used as a “plot device”.
Gyuri had a bigger Korean vote than Sarang. I really thought she’d debut but unfortunately her internationally following is so low
You can say that about almost half of the contestants, looking back to the promotional videos before the show aired, you can tell most of the girls that stayed in the ground where meant to be there all along :c

I thought Gyuri was phenomenal, but since she's so young and seems to suit an elegant or cute concept more naturally, I'm not too upset she didn't make the group. I hope she goes on to debut in a successful group; she's so talented and such a hard worker.

I personally think that since the beginning they aimed for 2 japanese members, Mai and Fuko. I believe the original lineup included Yuju and Fuko, however after part 1, they realized Koko could easily fill in the role of Rapper+Dancer+Japanese member, and I believe she replaced them both. In survival shows with large amount of contestants and small amount of group members, being able to fill multiple roles is crucial. Now, instead of debuting a rapper(Yuju), main dancer(Sujung), and a Japanese girl(Fuko), Koko could replace all three of them easily.
Yeah, Koko was talented from the beginning, but people really first started to notice her, when she got a drastic increase in screen time by mnet during IWALY test, before she got barely any screen time, probably because Mnet didn't have her in mind yet, as they realized she could execute multiple roles (main dancer/ main rapper) in the lineup
that actually makes so much sense, considering Koko was only ranked 6th at the beginning of part 2 despite having very high scores in every single test and only losing to Saebi when they were neck and neck (while Saebi was 1st)
it shows that the producers haven't realized her role in the lineup at the time
All i can say is that fuko’s votes have gotten progressively lower as time went by, so clearly people were not seeing that ‘something’ that her fans saw in her.
My theory is that there was a lot of clout around her because her fans were very vocal about supporting her, but truthfully her fanbase has never been that big in my opinion.
she made great first impression and a lot of new watchers who barely knew anyone vote for her initially but the problem is the episodes are still on going, so you will see other trainees as well who are also having growth and somehow you will might favor others more than your initial pick and that’s common. the fans pick who got eliminated might also continue to support remaining trainees, the question is which trainees are attracting more those voters. in survival being safe is quite dangerous, at first honestly i thought jeemin was overhype but it seems she took more effort in part 2 and i approve her a lot now to be center like she proved it in last two episodes
Yeah, her fans was the opposite of Sarang fans. We know they were there, but we didn’t know how many they were and they really came through for voting. People kept saying her votes were consistent but it really wasn’t. The second to last voting she was 6th and that’s honestly far from being safe and would be warrant for panic voting THEN them showing the interim dropped her even lower. Jiyoon managed to hold on to Koko raise on votes but Fuko, Saebi, Sarang and Mai did not. Therefore dropping lower
Her fans are only bark and no action. They are literally bullying sarang and mai for debuting when they themselves didn’t vote enough. Like fuko don’t deserve this people as her fans

I also don’t like how fuko fans are mad at her not debuting and are saying she should’ve been a pds pick like what? Her being 8th in votes and making it instead of Saebi or Mai who were 6th and 7th would’ve been unfair as hell, this is literally one of the reasons why people HATED and were mad a the r u next lineup, because the pds chose people who weren’t even in the top 6 to debut while others like Jeemin who were ranked 4th in votes didn’t make it; that’s called a ROBBERY so the current izna lineup is perfect to me

@@cheesySOSYou asked the question so what’s the point of a pd pick? It’s for them to pick contestants who they think are worthy of debut so they picked Mai and Saebi so that’s it, their pick. They can pick who they deem fit irrespective of who it is

@cheesySOS the point of pd pick is a fail safe to make sure their picks debut if they don't debut through global voting.
But this time the global vote pretty much lined up with their picks so it didn't matter. They just wanted Mai in the line up. (If they had gone with just 6 global picks, Saebi would have debuted as 6th. Mai would have been 7th and not in line up unless they still decided to add 7th member.)
People forget that survival shows aren’t just talent shows. They’re popularity contest, when it comes downs to it people are gonna vote for who they like the most. This includes the producers.
ppl are saying it’s the producers fault that fuko was in the same concept but during the semi finale she was convinced jeemin to choose itnw (another bright concept). i just wish fuko stans would acknowledge that her being complacent and always playing it safe cost her a spot in the line up
I want to talk about Mai too, I started watching Iland because of Mai, because of Drama obviously. Her voice, without commenting on whether it was good or not, was so unique and adding her beautiful visual completely sold me
I have to say that she didn't have much screen time but I was still always aware of her because she attracted me. I really liked her personality, a calm older sister willing to work hard without complaining in front of the others.
Her development, I feel like it was on stage since she had very little camera time outside of it (damn!!!!) Her vocal development was very nice to see!!! That's why when someone complain that their choice failed to debut compared to Mai, I feel sad.
Mai doesn’t have the best skills but she always made up with her stage presence. In I Am The Best, she literally has 3 lines and she made herself memorable. Even my friend who only joined me to watch the finale, said Mai is a stand out in Fake it. Personally, Mai is up there with Jeemin when it comes to stage presence and a lot of people don’t want to admit it because their faves are more “talented”
The problem is that Fuko was considered a lock by basically everyone, so they thought she was safe and didn’t vote for her. We all had the impression she would surely debut cause everybody always talked about her and it made it seem like her fandom was HUGE when it really wasn’t. In comparison, Jiyoon and Sarang’s fandoms have always been more lowkey but they were clearly bigger than Fuko’s, that’s why the girls were voted in.
The same happened with sunoo in iland 1. He everytime placed 1st in global voting so in finals everyone thought he might place first so didnt vote him and as a result he wasnt picked as global voting, he was thankfully picked by the producers. It could've been bad

Jungeun and Fuko were never going to be chosen by producers. The difference is that producers made it clear after she got 10thplace and everyone was afraid and started voting her
But with Fuko it was not noticeable like they did with Jungeun and that's why we all were calm
So what I want to say is that majority of Fuko stans thought she was safe when she was not.
The opposite with Jungeun, everyone realized Jungeun was not safe with the hate she still gets by Koreans and the low scores of pds

tbh after the la vien rose performance it was clear that fuko wont debut because jeemin and sarang outshined her and gyuri , dont get me wrong fuko and gyuri are way too talented but they always kept the same concept with them

@@lullets5083yes… you can’t deny that Sarang has way better stage presence than Fuko. Sure Fuko is a better vocalist but Sarang is also a good vocalist. 2 mistakes doesn’t define her vocal ability. You’re forgetting she had other performances outside of 4Walls and LVER. I’m sorry but Sarang stands out. I barely noticed Fuko in 4Walls and was surprised she was center. She was outshined by Sarang and Gyuri.
@@revertchronicles29 Nope I still think fuko has better stage presence than sarang. Whilst it can be subjective, fuko stands out in unique facial expressions that have been shown to show versatility depending on concept (concept isn't just cute and girl crush, there are at least 50+ concepts) which can be shown in IWALY, Bad Boy, Final Love Song, Into the New World and Fake It. And what I have noted from Sarang is that she usually has a blank face when she isn't in the center/performing her part. Just because fuko didn't 'stand out to you during a performance does not mean she has weak stage presence, there is a reason she has been center multiple times and has scored very well (Mind you she was the highest scored member in 4 Walls from the audience).

i saw many comments during the livestream while the lineup was being announced saying that there would be too many vocalists if fuko were to also debut. i’m personally really happy with the final lineup because now izna is very strong in each category and it’s a very good lineup considering it’s from a survival show and if you look at previous groups such as illit and unis. i wanted yuju to debut but we can’t always get what we wanted when everyone has different opinions
basically ur spitting facts (especially with sujung - the harsh truth) in this video and i think more people need to see it before complaining about fuko when we were given this amazing group
Yeah at the end of the day this is an extremely good lineup, especially if you compare it to other shows like you said. People have the right to be sad about their faves not making it but i hope this won’t stop them from realizing how solid and stacked this final lineup actually is.
Never too many vocalists imo but at least this line up does have vocals (and dance and kinda rap). One of my favorite lines up out of all survival shows tbh.

that's also what i thought, that group simply didn't need another vocalist, especially for a black label group who is most likely going to focus on performance and rap elements, 3 powerhouse vocalists is unnecessary. unis is an absolute shitshow of members, with zero cohesion, and in illit everyone else's talent was sacrificed for wonhee's cute concept. in comparison, izna has a really strong lineup that i honestly think can pull off most concepts.
also think that even though a lot of people are hating on mai making the lineup, i think she is the ideal addition, because she has the perfect image for a black label group, and whether we like it or not kpop is a very visual-based industry, and they do need an iconic center/face of the group to bring in new fans and generate hype, plus she works very hard and i have no doubt she will improve by the time they debut.
@@wen261 The thing is that they aren't really a Black Label group, they will be taking their of their music. They will be under WakeOne as a group, so technically, the TBL group will be their girl group if they are debuting them at all. For me, the ideal KPOP group is one that focuses more or less equally on dance, rap and vocals so hopefully, they will take into account all of their talents.
notice how all these 4 contestant's screentime went down TREMENDOUSLY. on the finale, the only screentime fuko got was her not being able to pull off the rap. the final lineup has been set since the first episode, and honestly it doesnt even surprise me coming from wakeone. i hope these girls are able to leave wakesh!t and they get into a good company, even if it's nugu just so that they can get to achieve their dreams.
fuko and gyuri were obviously done dirty because wakeone wants to go the girl crush route with the final lineup. they gave them less screen time and they eventually lost popularity until the best episode, despite their skills.
Really terrible argument when you see Mai for example who has had 0 screen time in pt2 and was constantly erased from imates still making it in the top7
If you look at the first ever performances, the ones that came out pre-show, 6/7 members where the ones that had the most screen time. (Jiyoon was the only one that didn't. In their performance, Juwon had a lot of screen time. It makes me believe she was a pick to debut, but for some reason she didn't get popular and they ended up dropping her. Fuko also got a lot of attention.)

Fuko lost because fans didn't vote enough for her and because the producer assigned her a rap part and she couldn't do it. For me that was the determining part where the producer could decide if she fit the group he wants to form. Sarang achieved it and accompanied by the votes of her fans she managed to be part of the group. The truth is that Fuko may not have been cast because she just doesn't fit what producer Teddy does.
Y’all haven’t watched the finale.. she couldn’t do the rap bc she didn’t understand or know English. She’s Japanese and she only focused on learning Korean not another language 😭. They didn’t even LET her try and get better at the rap they js made her switch.
@@cynthixc That's not really an excuse though, English is the kind of language you don't need to try hard to learn since it's everywhere and the main language online. Korean is pretty similar to Japanese and I can assure you, it's really not difficult for japanese people to learn korean. If anything, the easiest language to learn for japanese is korean. And since Fuko did well at school, it wouldn't be a problem to learn english as well.
Which is also why you are right by saying that they should have let Fuko train to master it. Because she can. TBL likes that their idols knows how to speak english unfortunately, it might have been a disadvantage for her to show it in the finale.
But I'm sure Fuko will be recruited by other agencies, I'm not anxious for her. She has the talent, the visual, and the linguistic ability. Now she really just need to improve her english and she should be the perfect material for agencies like Starships. Just like Yuju has the SM style in my opinion, Fuko suits Starships vibes
@@cynthixca lot of other trainees couldn’t speak English too or even Korean, unfortunately that’s not an excuse. We saw Koko struggling with the rap parts cause she’s not fluent, yet she did it well. You all have to accept that Fuko doesn’t fit the concept of the group. I really would like to see her at SM where I think she fits better
The think that I hate more is that half of those trained that were in iland 2 were used solely to boost other girl; for example Sujung was mainly used to push Jiyoon as a caring leader (in the I am the best mission), Gyuri was used to push Jeemin as a leader, center, caring and loving person, Yuju was used to push Koko as a better performer and rapper, Fuko pushed Jeungeun as a good leader and all things like this. They literally gave them zero screen time unless it was useful for other trainee. Meet failed their own trainee once again

Signal song test: Soul used to „bring down“ Sujung, Jungeun used to start Jiyoons „villain arc“
Seesaw game: Yuju having a hard time because of Yui, more Jiyoon villain arc
Unit battle: Jungeun shown as „bad“ singer to lift up Jiyoon, Umji and Juwon erasure to start Kokos popularity, Sarang popularity lift, Saebi uplift as a „golden Center“ and also a lift of popularity for Mai, bringing Sujung down with losing while the other members in every unit were completely erased
Black made test: Giving Jungeun a bad score to determine her fanbase, Heavy Yuju criticism to give Koko spotlight,Saebi lift, making sure Sujung is not liked anymore and Mai gets popular with „pity?“ votes, pushing Jiyoons redemption arc, Jeemin and Sarang beef,
Main Position test: Jungeun erasure and more of Jiyoons redemption arc, more evil editing for Sujung, erasing Mai, Juwon and Sujung to give Saebi and Jeemin another sob story, Yuju erasure to highlight Koko, letting Stans fear for Sarang
Self made test: Latata unit was basically completely erased expect Jiyoon Jungeun and Koko, Sujung got kind of a redemption arc, Mai lift, slight Gyuri focus to left Fans fear for Sarang, another Jeemin sob story
Last test: They were just showing everyone who will debut tbh
What I also noticed was that basically every unit where a Mnet favorite was in, turned into a „Contestant X and her peasant“ like you cannot tell me La vien rose Unit wasn‘t just Jeemin and nobody else. They had their favs, made it obvious, shoved them down everyones throat.
(Not hating on Jeemin or anybody here I love them)
1000% this, they knew exactly what they’re doing. Sujung even being used twice, pushing not only Jiyoon but also Mai.
plus sujung was most likely recruited by mnet + wake1 for iland 2. they knew what edits and how they were going to use her for the other trainees they wanted

TBH I agree with Fuko, there was a reddit forum where I predicted that FUKO wouldn't make it (Got Downvoted) because I lay down the facts in terms of versatility. What the heck is an all-rounder- concept singing 4 walls? It's just the same FUKO from beginning
To mention, if you have your top 6, mind you, talent chemistry is very important. There are a bunch of center material in the group that everyone loves which leads you to select who the best vocalist will be and in terms of dynamics.
We have both seen FUKO and JIYOON duet as well as FUKO and JUNGEUN duet but it sticks more that JUNGEUN AND JIYOON will be perfect match due to the resounding drama build up and relationship.
There are no cute interactions between FUKO and other vocalists other than practicing. She wasn't even struggling
I was actually thinking If I were FUKO, I will showcase my faults here and there little by little and some intentionally shortcomings just so the camera would pan to me. Like supressed emotions. I am an ENTP so I would do that if I were in my shoes ahahajhaha

So true most of the times even I remember thinking that fuko would struggle a little to atleast build a story line. But probably since it was her second survival show she didn't want to take a risk and show her weakness.
Oddly enough people appreciate you more if you make mistakes and show your imperfectios, so that you come across as more relatable and people will remember you. As weird as it may sound, Fuko was almost too good and too perfect.
That’s the thing. Especially Korean viewers looove the struggling -> improving arc like Mai’s. If you’re already good, you don’t stand out to them. It’s truly a gamble because appearing struggling could also get you voted right out.
Well rather than pretend to struggle, Fuko should have challenged herself by picking a different concept song or trying a different part other than vocalist. She might have debuted if she successfully did the rap in the finale but she gave it up too early.
I agree with you that Fuko didn't have any challenges in the show or a good story line. Also it feels like something changed after part 1. In part 2 it was clear that mnet didn't want her. Probably they had decided the concept and fuko didn't fit in (which is most likely considering teddy is producing the group and fuko fits the elegant style more).
As someone who has voted for fuko everyday I feel people are crazy for hating on the izna members. Some fans really need to learn how to move on.
Thing is Fuko wasn't going to debut because they tested her in the last ep by giving her a rap part instead of Yuju THE MAIN RAPPER and even her leadership which might of made her a real contender for the pdp was completely thrown aside when in her team everyone said they preferred Jungeun as leader . I love Fuko but she didn't have a chance anyone who watched the last episode can see that
They gave her a rap part to try and make her do something outside her comfort zone, just like they did to Gyuri, putting in Drip unit that had a very different concept from what she usually did, or just like they did to Sarang giving her a rap part even if she had never rapped before. They were trying to switch things up and this ended up being detrimental to some contestants.

@@pearlinperil9985I feel like y’all seriously didn’t watch the show, Fuko struggled w the rap bc it was in English. Fuko does NOT speak English whatsoever. She is Japanese and her first language is Japanese, her second language that she learned over time is Korean. Don’t be dense 😭. The judges didn’t even LET her at least continue practice and get better with it like they always do w the contestants, no they js made her switch and not even let her try this challenge for herself
@@cynthixcand Koko doesn't speak English at all, and is even worse at Korean than fuko, yet she outraps her in both languages. Why? Because she practices until she gets it right, fuko could've done it too if she didn't give up.
the moment that rap performance with koko and yuju had THAT much dancing in it (perhaps even more than the dance unit itself) I knew there was no chance of yuju debuting. they were basically going "see? koko can rap as well AND dance" which is a shame yuju stood out during part 1 for me but the second she got to part 2 it was very clear they didn't want to highlight her very much, if at all

At the end of the day, fuko fans need to realize that the reason Fuko didn’t debut is her own fans overestimating her one picks. Some assumed she was safe (always in the top6) and the pds will have her back (ranked 4th in the semi finals).
We tried to warn you guys that no one was truly safe but she still ended up 8th in votes and the blame is on fuko fans who haven’t voted, not mnet’s, not the pds and not the other contestants.

Actually no a lot of KOKKUMIS were the ones warning ppl to continue voting for her bc ppl who liked Fuko started dropping her bc they assumed that she was gonna be safe, I am not even a big kokkumi, bc my top 4 debuted (Mai, Jungeun, Jiyoon, Jeemin) but Fuko was in my top 6. And I saw so many kokkumis doing a lot for Fuko, she was even trending before the finale. 😭 Kokkumis did what they could. So stop blaming them

I agree with most of your statements. The only thing I want to add on is that I felt Jiyoon and Sujung swapped storylines. Like you mentioned in part 1 mnet painted Jiyoon’s blunt personality in a negative way. Meanwhile they were showing Sujung as being a great team player and a good leader. In part 2 Sujung’s blunt personality was painted in a negative way and Jiyoon was given more of a positive team player storyline. Like you mentioned we all have our ideal lineups, mnet included, but I wish mnets method of getting rid of a contestant didn’t include tearing down a 17 year olds self esteem. Also I was disappointed to hear Sujung saying that about Mai but I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt seeing that she had been portrayed differently prior. I was surprised to see so many people dropping her after that one incident though. Plus the hate comments that she got then and even still now are ridiculous 😢
i agree so much. the sujung drama seemed odd to me because there was literally no context to the clip. we don't know why sujung did what she did, whether someone else brought it up before her, how the other trainees reacted to it. we don't know if sujung talked to mai about it or if she apologized. like you said, the sudden storyline change between jiyoon and sujung. maybe they realised that jiyoon is getting more popular.

I agree! Sure it was a bit strange but all the episodes beforehand she was always a girls girl and doing her best to help out everyone. It was crazy to see everyone suddenly start hating on her after one suspicious incident.
I honestly think that fuko and gyuri doged the huge bullet that is Teddy's production and wakeone's management. Like seriously, think about it. In pt2 they were primarily slotted into the elegant/cute concept. A teddy produced group will most likely have a darker, more teen crush concept (I think they're gonna go in the direction of early itzy, mainly wannabe). So even if they were to debut, they would have been treated like filler members or backup dancers, and then they never would have stood out in the group. I think debuting in another group in the next year or two would work the best. Like, imagine them being an SM 5th gen gg? It would be so iconic.

Your remarks about Fuko are on point. She is extremely talented, but stayed in the kind of concept the whole competition, while other girls challenged themselves and tried to do different things.
Fuko stans are gonna be insufferable for months, i already know it. They are gonna be like Yurina stans after girls planet ended and she didn't make it. The truth is Fuko simply lacked that spark the izna members have, even if she was always very talented.

A lot of Fuko’s supporters aren’t voting for her as their one pick. They not into her individual talent but like her as a group member. They just wanted a leader and Fuko would fulfill that role. If it were a six pick vote, Fuko would definitely debut. She’s in everyone’s lineup but not everyone’s personal favourite.
The reason why they didn't debut is due to editing and not being the company's choice. Everyone that was chosen was given great storylines and/or were clearly favored by PD.
Honestly I was mad at first that Gyuri, Fuko and others didn‘t debut, but in the end it may aswell have been the best outcome out of the show! Gyuri and Fuko would‘ve been treated as some useless tools with some lines while they both have Main vocalist potential/Talent or (mainly gyuri) could‘ve been the center. Izna was obviously never supposed to be vocal centered group, mainly one for good performers! Gyuri,Fuko, Yuju, Juwon and Sujung would all shine in a company like Jyp since it would showcase all their talents (Jyp is basically known for having all rounder idols) Besides since Iland 2 was actually a seemingly „pleasant“ show for the final 12 contestants it must‘ve been a good lesson and a kind of boost to become an idol since normally a lot of trainees don‘t get good feedbacks from their own company.

This is what you should do." Mai was a soft spot for most people. Because throughout the competition she always put others first. Her famous line for me was "no matter how small the part or what song I will shine " (when her and Yuju were conflicting over whistle Vs panaroma).... In the same episode we saw Koko helping Saebi and Jeemin who were not even in her team for the money performance. The contrast of attitude between Jiyoon &Koko versus Sujung was too high in that episode.

I did all sheet music for ILand's original songs that as you might guess involves a scrupulous listening to every note and absolutely can't agree with show's description of her as a vocal position. Her vocal is off-pitch, very thin and timbre-less. She struggles with and wanders around notes.
Her position was "Japanese", a group need Japanese members to appeal to Japan's market. Her competitors were Koko and Mai and Japanese voted for Koko and Mai.

The switch on the rap part for the finale was Yuko's downfall. She needed to step up and prove she could be versatile as you noted. If she would have fought for it, I think she would have had a shot.
i think even if she did that rap part she still wouldn't have made it because by then it was too late, her votes already started dropping a while before the finale, however, if she had taken on the challenge she would have been able to at least prove she had versatility, but she never really did, which is something that was already noticeable before and we had been seeing for a while, which is why her votes consistently dropped.
even tho i had fuko in my lineup but I totally agree with what you said about fuko mai was improving very fast and can adapt to any concept and i feel like her personality was very much needed if that makes sense and i kinda knew fuko wasnt gonna make it ever since she was given the rap part in fake it but couldn’t pull it off i think it already shows the producers another reason is because the group already had 2 main vocalists and since fukos appeal is her vocals (really good but the other 2 are slightly better) but not anything else so she would be overshadowed by the rest of the group
I think the finale challenge was meant to test if the contestants who were low in votes can convince the pds to choose them. Jeemin, jungeun, koko, jiyoon were getting a lot of votes with huge gaps from the rest. Sarang, mai, and fuko were given challenging parts to test out wether they were needed or not in the “pre-confirmed” lineup. Sarang and mai excelled in their given parts but fuko didnt.
To be completely honest the whole show was boring. The storylines were so forced and in your face, yet so boring and predictable. All the “growth” is super artificial and spoon fed to the viewers
You’re totally right, this was one of the most predictable survival show final lineups i’ve seen, but even if these storylines were forced, at least they kept people entertained so i can understand why many stans found these stories appealing.
It's boring because there was barely any drama in the show lol. I think mnet was trying so hard to "evil edit" some of the girls just to make the show more interesting but surprisingly the contestants were very much supportive towards each other and it felt like they genuinely liked each other which I really appreciated.

Tbh I wish survival shows would go back to seeing the contestants actually train/ goofing off during practice. It seems the shows focus too much on the trainees battling over parts than they show the actual training or bonding moments. I would rather see that than the overexaggerated drama.

This is not even a fair comparison. But if you want to defend your favourite go ahead without trying to draw parallels that do not exist. Although Jiyoon was my favourite contestant I really liked Sujung too irrespective of whatever happened on the show, I especially hated how the dance mentors treated her especially and I will root for her in whatever she decides to do.

i just want to say this is very after the fact (not a critique to the video, it is very well analysed and pretty much how audience view the show), but i also wanted to point out that it is mostly manipulation and less so on the non-members’ ability or personality, it’s more on the program and the editing. i don’t mind that, i watched a good show and now izna has a pretty good lineup.
I also agree with you, it's obvious that she's too safe and her fans also play safe and subjective, but the only and important thing about a survival program is that you have to know how to shine and overwhelm strong contestants to get attention, like gyuri but she was wrong and was hated by jeemin fans, if Fuko can be even crazier she can be in the debut lineup that teddy hopes for a strong and confident girl group like blackpink, the 7 members of izna all fit those standards.

In my opinion the whole Mai and Sujung situation was really weird. I'm not sure at what point she was evil-edited but it's not the first time they script something in a survival show (Fu Yaning saying "we go up but you don't" in Helipcopter to Yujin) because the next episode we saw Mai and Sujung getting along well and supporting each other. Sujung even mentioned her in her discourse when she was eliminated.
I don't think the problem was Sujung not knowing how to work in a group because we clearly saw during latata how she helped Koko and make sure she voiced out her opinions since Koko didn't feel confident with being a leader. She reminds me of Soyeon from Gidle in some aspects. She tried to highlight every girl in the group and getting the least lines because she already knew she was going to be eliminated after that performance not matter how good she did. The problem was that it was already too late for her to have a redemption arc.
For the I am the best team it was a different situation because it was an individual competition not a group one and she was still having hope of debuting because she was 4th in votes at first (even above Gyuri) but mnet took advantage of her overconfidence and made her look bad.
Agreed mnet did her so dirty and the whole drama was really strange to me considering she had always supported the girls before. When they did the Rain On Me performance I was so in awe she highlighted all the girls strengths without making it seem messy. (Still angry they didn't win the creative unit battle)

and i want to add that fuko didn't make it because people were so sure she was a guaranteed member so that they started voting for others instead, thinking that there would be enough people voting for her, and that's what exactly happened with jeemin in RUNext before.
also about being a pd's pick, i believe that the producers already have a concrete group concept in mind. considering this, the other members will suit the tbl style better than fuko. similarly, jeemin wouldn't have suited illit's image.
now Gyuri's sudden late show spotlight makes sense, in part 1 she barely had any spotlight or story not even on early part 2 episodes too.
If Sujung had been blunt in part 1 and had switched to the great leader that was actually showcased in part 1, her popularity might've secured her spot. If Jiyoon hadn't showed her personality in part 1 and had in part 2, she wouldn't have been that popular w/o that many chances in debut.. They could've not done that to Sujung, but they DID. And they did that because they did not like her. I think Sujung is fit for another group, or maybe a more harsh svs.
I really can’t understand the complaints about Fuko not having enough time to practice the rap. Like it’s the LAST presentation on the show, she could’ve challenged herself into different roles before. A lot of other trainees couldn’t speak English too or even Korean, unfortunately that’s not an excuse. We saw Koko struggling with the rap parts cause she’s not fluent, yet she did it well. Sarang also did it. You all have to accept that Fuko doesn’t fit the concept of the group. I really would like to see her at SM, since she’s really talented and fits better the vibe of their groups, like Red Velvet.

I'm gonna say this: idols biggest appeal is their character and storyline, that's why concept can make or break a group, even a previously successful group can fail when their comeback's concept sucks.
A lot of Kpop fans are in denial, saying things like talent is the most important thing. Not saying it's not important, but if you've spent enough time in Kpop, you would realize that charisma, stage presence, interesting character are even more important to sustain your career. Being good enough like Fuko only landed her as the fans' backup choice. This is why a lot of main vocalists, despite their skills, doesn't have successful solo careers. In any groups (except maybe small groups), there's always one (or maybe more) member who plays it safe and just there, fans of the group would argue that they're talented but then at the same time don't really hype up this member. This member would always be in the bias list: "oh I like A, B and C in this group", but when fans had to choose only one bias, C wouldn't really be picked. In my opinion, this is Fuko and Yurina.

The underlying reason for these trainees not debuting is that the show producers didn’t want them to (as much as those that did). Storylines and characters arcs are deliberate and edited to push certain narratives to the show’s audience, and the same can be said about not giving trainees screentime. Kinda disappointed at the results, but not entirely surprised. Mnet’s tactics have become pretty predictable. All that said, Izna is still a pretty solid group and I’m looking forward to their debut~

Truth about koko vs yuju is producers 110% wanted Koko to debut ( look how they showed her rank for final voting just after 1 day because she was placing 8th) they wanted her for visual mainly as this show only ever focused on that, if not for visuals they would easily ignore her dance skills or stage presence like they did with sujung or juwon. And they pushed her as a rapper even if she’s max sub-rapper because she can’t sing well and also they could make a reason why lineup doesn’t need yuju since producers don’t want her in the lineup. If they wanted both, koko would be pushed as main dancer and yuju as main rapper and all rounder.
Conclusion here is that mnet just manipulated the shit out of audience and their decisions on who they wanted to debut was based on KBS(korean beauty standards) mainly. exception for this this were main vocals, however they did tried to push out Jungeun, and if not for votes maybe she wouldn’t even debut, not certain if they wanted her in lineup.

I feel like the final episode was kinda used to “manipolate” people into choosing some specific trainees.I dont know how to explain but,i think they did a really good choice by choosing sarang and Fuko as rappers,because it’s a survival show were they show their skills,but why do it at the end?and only with fuko and sarang?if they did their things properly they should have chosen other roles for the others as well,like main vocal for mai?she has improved so why not,or like center for gyuri? Or main vocal for yuju?main rapper for jeemin? yuju’s part for koko since she shines always??? I’m not hating btw😭
I agree, challenge after challenge many of the trainees had similar concepts/skill sets - often due to producer-dictated songs or positions. No wonder we never saw growth or versatility.
yeah they should have at least did it in the middle of part 2 because there's not much time given to prepare for their last performance, they performed iwaly, final love song and drip/fake it so im sure they need to practise that too + they prepared gift for the producer as well

You say that there was no big difference in skill level between yuju and koko, and i cant say i entirely agree with that assessment. Koko with limited knowledge of english and korean, was getting better at rapping at a surprising degree every week, was she at yuju's level by the end? probably not, but her upside as a rapper is HUGE....she will get to that level sooner than later. Meanwhile Koko is on another planet as a dancer, she completely laps Yuju.
I was mainly talking about rapping, in fact even though i think Yuju is better, Koko isn’t that far behind, but obviously if we take into consideration dancing, then Koko is miles ahead, that’s why she is the full package!

May Gyuri and Sujung were my top 3 from the start
Mai barely got ANY screen time, especially the last few episodes so I was so so surprised when she got picked bc it seems most people hate my top picks 😂
Didn't love Sujung as much near the end when the drama happened though
Personally never got over the Jiyoon editing - whether it was her real personality or not, she reminds me too much of a few people I grew up with who were not nice ofr fun to be around- it doesn't help that I don't love her tone so it's hard to not see her as a pouty person who thinks she's the best singer (she said she thought she was in the show).
The editing ruined it so much for me that by the end when she went to help mai and the few things she did as a "good leader" in the end, I couldn't help but think the producers were probably telling her like go help her or like giving her clues on what to say (also I dont think it's super realistic to "change" your personality in a few weeks/months so it was hard for me to believe she went from "bad" to "good")
No hate to her, I can respect that everyone has their own faves I just think the way they edited her (unless it really is her personality) did her a disservice in my eyes and definitely did not make me root for her like everyone else
I think the PDs didn't want to choose Jung-eun and Hooko, but domestic and foreign viewers were too concerned about Jung-eun's debut, and as a result, Jung-eun is overwhelmingly No. 1 and Hooko is out of the rankings... If Jung-eun's votes had been dispersed a little bit among the lower ranks, the ranking would have changed slightly, and Hooko might have been in the rankings...

After the 1st test in Part 2,I feel like the line up has already been decided and the other girls,Sujung,Juwon,Yuju,Fuko and Gyuri were just highlighted to boost the other girls popularity in some way.Like,
despite doing well,Jungeun and Saebi's rank kept on dropping and they were effected a lot due to that since both of them used to getting high rank, they show tons of Sarang and Mai losing their confidence,I feel like they did all this so the mentioned girls can gain sympathy and more fans.Also during the final test,they made it seem like Gyuri was too being greedy with lines and keep on complaining to Jeemin who was the leader so Jeemin gave up almost all her lines,and then Jiyoon from other team stands up for her so people can become more interested in her and Jeemin also gain alot of sympathy from the people.They show a clip of Jungeun and Jiyoon reconcile so Team Jungeun and Team Jiyoon fans united to make both girls debut.Koko
keep getting praises from producers,it was kinda obvious that even if she didn't win by votes, producers would pick her,and her lovely personality and struggling with Korean was being highlighted heavily towards the end.They never really show much of Yuju so peole would lose interest in her,they keep making it seem like they really like Fuko and that made her fans confident about her debuting ,while they keep using Gyuri and Sujung as the bad guys and yall know how Juwon is like she didn't even made it to part 2.It feels like they already planned everything ahead

The vote won by the first place was an expression of antipathy against Koreans who only vote for pretty idols and against unfair Mnet who try to eliminate talented person.

You tried to avoid it the whole video but another main factor on why a lot of girls didn’t debut is visuals.
All of the contestants are stunning but there are girls like sujung who was simply never going to make it because she was so short in comparison to other popular contestants. If all the contestants you mentioned had visuals like mai they 100% would have debuted.

Tbh, I dropped Sujung when she kept pushing to be main vocal and had vocalist material when in fact, she lacked so much in that area. I just had a hunch that time that her overconfidence would be her downfall when it came to votes. My hunch was only solidified when talked about Mai in that one episode. Although she may actually be a nice girl in general, doing that during Part 2 didn't help her get enough support for the finale. I get that they're teenagers and still have some immaturity in them (also because Sujung reminds me of someone mean in highschool) and I even had her in my top 6 list before the IWALY test, but she didn't standout to me much after that.
The main reason her korean fanbase is small bc she got a lot of hate since her street girl fighter era. Im suprised it never reached international viewers because if you go to pann, they were talking negatively about her. I think her attitude plays a part why the pds and mnet in general dropped her. She doesnt suit to be in a group but maybe as a soloist.
I’m pretty sure she had only pushed to be main vocalist because the judges told that she was only a dancer that sing and that she only took dancing roles in performances. She was trying to prove to the judges that she could do more

She was very strong opinionated and upfront which came across as snobbish and pushy to some especially knetz. what she said to mai was the nail in the coffin when they already dont like her. kpop girl group is all about girl's girl, sunshines, rainbows, and what sujung did was far away from that. thats why i said shes better off as soloist. if she debuted with big girl group like izna, she will be hated on in the future.

Some Fuko fans said Teddy is unfair to give less part to her. I think they don't watch the show. Fuko failed to challenge rap, then that part changed to Jungeun. At that time, I knew she won't be picked by producers. When everyone gets a challenge, she always stays in a comfort zone. Jungeun is different from her case. She doesn't have much air time, and mnet doesn't want her to shine too much. But she must be picked up by producers if she hasn't enough votes. She has outstanding vocal and dancing skills. She could be any position of the group. They need her ability, so they must let her debut.
Just a small thing to add:
Fuko and Gyuri aren’t very versatile idols. As said, Fuko was only performing in her comfort zone. Imagine if she’d done the money performance? Or the drip one?
But they both nearly only did cutesy, pretty concepts, and I think that was detrimental, because I think the producers are imagining Izna to have a slightly, maybe “cool” theme.
