    Thank you for this. My baby is nearly 5 months old and while she figured out rolling from her back to tummy, this has still been a thing she hasn't done -- which is hilarious b/c she hated tummy time for so long -- she could put herself into it but not take herself out. Anyway, thank you for these tips. Had been doing them and am glad these are the tools she needs -- she's just doing her own thing/building her skill, being her own baby lol

    Found this at 3am after resettling my daughter back to her cot. I'm going to send to my husband and hoping to help our daughter. She only rolls 1 way from her back to tummy, so hoping getting her used to rolling tummy to back may even help her rolling the other way too. She's so desperate to move, she gets frustrated she can't do the things she tells herself she can lol. Shes 7 months on Sunday so really hoping this is gonna help. Thank you!

    This has been the only video out of about 50 that I have watched that gave me more than just “tummy time,tummy time,tummy time.” It was infuriating, since we do tummy time for about 6 hours a day. He was born 12lb 4oz
    He is sitting up completely independently, trying to crawl and looks at me and says "mum". We aren't worried, he rolls onto his side but can't quite make it over.

    Hi Emma, our 5-month old baby spits up almost every time we do tummy time. We’ve tried waiting longer after feeds but that doesn’t seem to help. It doesn’t bother him, he often still wants to stay on his tummy even after spitting up, but he usually grunts a lot and seems to force milk back up. Any tips?

      Hi @diana shadel it is great to hear he isn’t upset when he does spit up. Does he still spit up if you do tummy time when he wakes from a nap before a feed? Sometimes taking the pressure off the tummy can make a difference (so doing tummy time with a boppy pillow under their chest). It is hard when they are 5 months though because they are getting mobile in tummy time.

    Hi Emma (or anyone else), I have hard wooded floorboards. I have had a small soft material play mat but it's to small for my 3 month old who rolled both directions (front to back, back to front) unassisted from 7 weeks and has been army crawling off the mat. I have also found even with layering a towel under it is still a bit hard as just has thin layer of I am guessing batting (what is used when making quilts). So I need a bigger new mat. I love the look and idea of the xpu play mats (a. Because firm but padded, b. Can roll up for compact storage and c. Waterproof and get ones large enough that an adult can also sit with child on mat and could use for years to come. However, they are very pricey and I'm on a bit of a budget so I just wanted to know what your thoughts or experiences with these mats are... And whether you think worth the price or have a different suggestion. Thank you

    Hi Emma, you mentioned floor seats as a negative for babies, I know in other videos you mentioned that they can put hips in a bad position, but I was wondering what you think about the Upseat that is a floor seat meant to prevent hip dysplasia and encourage proper forward sitting instead of leaning back. It's the only product I found in floor seats that addresses that issue and I'm thinking might give my baby the opportunity to develop some core muscles because encourages her to sit forward.

    Emma I love your channel I am so happy and so thankful that we have found it.Especially my wife because we are both knew our son who is our first child is four months old going on five and I’m still seeing this we have no bloody idea what we’re doing and my wife cries and cries and cries at the beginning because she kept thinking that she was failing her son and she is also suffering from PPD and when we found this channel she found so much comfort knowing that H when she was reading the comments that she’s happy that she isn’t the only one they had no idea and be that there are so many helpful tips. Now My question is what can you do it through tummy time if you just find out that your child has an under developed hip.???? is there things that we can strengthen and when you have your child in a brace or something what can you do to help your child to make sure that he or she is still getting the proper tummy time to develop all the essentials

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  3 роки тому +1

      Hi @Tyler Redenbach I am so happy to hear these videos are helpful for you and your wife. Parenting is extremely challenging and as a new parent everything is so new and overwhelming. It sounds like it has been challenging time for your wife but you both sound like you are great parents for your son. If your son does need a brace for his hip then he should still be able to do tummy time - check with the doctor when they fit the brace on how they recommend doing tummy time (it might be with pillows to prop him up a bit). If his specialist say it is ok to do tummy time make sure you watch him when he is on his tummy and help him move onto his back after tummy time as it is difficult for babies to roll out of tummy time when wearing a brace.

      Emma Hubbard Thank you for the awesome tip I have a second question my son hates tummy time on the ground we put blankets down try to make it comfy he absolutely hates it sometimes he’ll actually put up with it very rarely though but he enjoys tummy time on the bed he’s holding his head up we’re practising our rules he kicks like a beast is that bad or is that OK

    • @EmmaHubbard
      @EmmaHubbard  3 роки тому

      Hi @Tyler Redenbach doing tummy time on a bed is fine. Just make sure you stay with your little one while they are doing tummy time as the soft mattress means they might accidentally roll over (so accidentally off the bed) and if they get tired their face might fall into the mattress and be difficult to clear the mattress or blankets and breathe.

      Hi @sandi Aung once babies can roll onto their tummy for sleep it is generally fine to let them sleep in that position. You would still put them to bed for sleep on their back but if they roll over independently onto their tummy that is fine. Your little one is 4 and half months old now? Just
      make sure your little one is sleeping in a cot with no loose blankets/toys or pillows and if you are using a sleeping bag their arms are out (so no longer swaddled).

    Hello Emma. My baby is 10 months old but he cannot sit on its own, only with a little help. He doesn't like tummy time because I wasn't aware of the importance tummy time has and I haven't let him stay like that, but he can roll while he is on his back. Is there any chance he can learn now to sit on its own?

    Hi Emma, my almost eight month old still can’t go tummy to back but has been trying for about 3 months now! I notice she doesn’t put weight thru forearms like you said but splays arms out in a Y shape when in tummy time. Any tips? My local physio service won’t advise/accept a referral til 10 months so I am at a loss!

      I see there was no response hopefully your baby figured it out. If not might i suggest the opposite. Instead of putting the toys off to the side maybe try putting them in front so that baby can practice putting their arms in front 1st. Then hopefully they will start to shift weight then the rest will follow.
      If your baby figured it out already then that's great to hear.

    My baby is rolling from belly to back only on one side. I'm exercising the other side, been doing for 2 weeks now but it goes slow. She is 6 months and 2 weeks now. She is rolling both directions from back to tummy tough. Should I keep doing those exercises to strengthen the weak side? is there any other exercises I can do? She learned how to roll at 5 months. When she is asleep she rolls both sides, but she gets her legs up and then rolls.

    My baby will be 6 month at the wnd of February. He can roll over to tummy from back since 3.5 month old. He also quite strong in crawling forward on tummy with the help of arm and leg muscles. However he still cannot roll over from tummy to back!
    He also dislikes when we try to strech out one of his arms to help him roll back.
    Any comments if it is normal and how we can help him?
    Recently he even started to hold himslef more up from elbows towards hands.

      Hi! It's great to hear your little one is enjoying being on his tummy and getting so strong in this position! Sounds like he is already starting to move around.
      It's not uncommon for bubs to be able to roll in one direction. As rolling from tummy to back is a skill bub can learn anywhere from 4 months to 7 months I would not be concerned.
      The tips in this video should help him master this skill.
      I hope they help!

    My LO rolled onto belly first time at about 3.5 months old. Her first roll onto back was at 5 months old. We are almost to 6 months old and she still isn't rolling on her back on her own and even with me using these tips and knowing she is capable of it because I've guided her with vision to do it a few times and I've found her rolled onto her back when she was on her tummy. She rolls onto her belly so consistently since she started that. But she just doesn't seem interested in rolling the other way. She would rather pivot. She also pushes off her feet when we hold under her arms to get on knees to get on feet to stand. She would rather be standing (with assistance of course). She pivots so much she's more or less spinning in circles. It's making me so anxious. This would be the first milestone she doesn't hit early (roll both ways by six months). I know she is capable. She just doesn't seem to know or care. Also she is constantly doing tummy time. Hates containers. She's really starting to hate the car seat again. Swing is the only container tolerated and only for a nap. She doesn't chill in it. She loves playing on the floor.

    Hi Emma, I find your videos incredibly helful (introducing solids has been a breeze thanks to your advice). However our little one simply refuses to turn over from tummy to back no matter how much we try. We're doing everything you mention in this video, but he just won't do it (he used to do it by tilting his head up until the 5th month). He's already 7 and a half months and is quite comfortable on his tummy, has been turning himself to tummy for months and is on the verge of crawling. This makes it even harder since if I try to get his attention with a toy to get him to turn on his back, he simply moves around while on tummy and reaches it this way.Whenever we try to get him to practice rolling with our help, he resists a lot, so we're not very persistant anymore. For a while we tried letting it go to see if he'll start doing it by himself, but whenever he gets tired of tummy time and wants to get to his back, he gets really frustrated and we feel it's time for us to intervene again. Do you have any advice on how to additionally help him?

    My baby is 7 almost 8 months and still doesn’t roll back to tummy. She does tummy to back but not often. I have seen your other videos on how to teach baby to roll over and have done the practices with her often starting at 5 months and she still shows no interest in rolling over. Should I be concerned? And if so, why is it bad? Will she never learn? Is that the concern??

    My baby is 6 months and he just doesn't roll. He isn't interested in it. When in tummy time he tries but he just gets frustrated and annoyed trying to move his body. He has all other signs of development, he reaches for his feet, put them in his mouth few times, grasp for objects with one and both hands, including our food and objects we are using... idk I'm a bit desperate. He gets so cranky!

So every time i leave him in the baby gym so I can do de dishes, he starts fussing 30 seconds after. It’s kinda funny and yes im proud of him. But now I can’t rely on the gym for house chores haha

      @Aarti Aarti are you concerned your 5 month 1 week old baby is not answering to his name? If you are concerned the first thing I would recommend is get his hearing assessed to ensure he is able to hear you. We typically don’t expect them to respond to their name until 6/7 months of age. So there is still plenty of time for him to start responding to his name before we would be concerned.
