I keep coming back to this one. This is a great calling card for F&J in 2022. It shows their evolution from their earlier presentation - sat statically side by side, delivering the songs deadpan down the barrel of a gun (this was the style right through to their "Alive on Stage" show and Amazon special in 2019) - to being more confident and animated performers. It's been less than 7 years since they started in Toronto as complete, nervous amateurs, doing comedy as a sideline to their day jobs, which is how that style developed. But - this contains all the elements of their humour in one short song - dark self-deprecation, almost dadaist silliness (a hamster in a parachute :) ) and satirical comment. And - the fact that they could write and arrange what is a really good song, both musically excellent and lyrically very funny, for a one-off performance with a very limited shelf-life, that wouldn't form part of any of their touring shows - I continue to be astonished at how prolific they are as writers. One of my favourite F&J moments, and I'm glad this was released online. Very much hoping that the 2019/2020 "Before The Screaming Starts" and 2022 "Sweet Release" shows have been/will be recorded or filmed for release at some point. Can't get enough of these two talented women.
Saw them not long ago and they were selling merch so got to meet them. So lovely, so down to earth and just fucking brilliant. Probably my favourite musical comedy act to date.
Me too, Shan. They do seem to be just nice, genuine people who happen to have a shit-ton of talent. Make the most of it - at some point, the world of comedy is going to catch on bigtime, and they'll be playing Minchin-sized gigs that are too big to allow them to run their own merch stall (not to mention being able to employ someone to do it for them, while they unwind backstage with tea, lady crisps, and a sausage :)).
Someone explain to me how old Flo & Joan are because they look & sound young enough to be millennials & then their humour & image also feels like it comes from between the 70s & 2000s
Nicola was born Dec 1989, Rosie in March 1992. So at the time of this video, 31 and 29 would be right. As of now (March 29th 2022), they've both had another birthday, so 32 and 30 respectively.
"...anyone can do it, Clearly, anyone can do it...." ......as Ms T. has proven. Come to that, anyone can do heart surgery, provided you're not too concerned about a successful result. 🙂

@@yaboinubtheii4154 my reply was ambiguous wasn’t it? I do find Garfunkel and Oates funny but i grew up in Britain on British humour so I much prefer Flo & Joan. I’ve seen them perform a few times in London. There’s a quintessentially self-deprecating Britishness about them which I really like.
He's horrible right? He's so unfunny that tears are running down my cheeks when I watch him every week. And my wife still thinks it's from laughter. Just horrible!
@Andy Forshaw: You now what I do to "comedians" that I think aren't funny? I don't watch their videos and I don't write comments! But that's the difference between you and me: I've got a brain in my skull and I've got a life!
