It's great to see these! Have lived in many of these towns along my life’s journey.
Excellent - thank you so much for all your comments - glad you found the videos.
Oh to have been a railfan back then. Clint Jones Jr sure captured great scenes.
What is odd is he went heavy in the early to mid 60's, tapered off in the late 60's...then...that was it.
Wow wow wow!!! Such great memories!! Road the CNW Twin Cities 400 and the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha countless times as a kid!
Last time on 400 I was 16.
Hiawatha last trip I was 17.
So many sites I remember….Milwaukee is my home town…CNW’s Lake Front station, Milwaukee road depot..so many great shots !!
After a 4 year stint in USAF I hired out in February 1974 on the CNW locomotive shop at Butler Wis.
After a 36 year career I retired from UPRR.
So glad I found this channel 👍👍😎
Thanks - you made my day !! I am always churning out more.
Fun to see. I really enjoy the footage of the C&NW. My Grandpa was a laborer for the C&NW on the line from Green Bay to Manitowoc.
Cool - any chance he worked out of Denmark?
@killerbee6310 I'm not too sure. He lived just west of Maribel. (Which yes, basically Denmark) I'll talk to Dad and see what he knows.
HANDS DOWN the best discovery I have found on UA-cam!! I research the MILW RD and CNW in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties with every town mentioned in here. I can finally know what the scenes were like in action rather than still images. My oh my, seeing Oconomowoc in motion made my jaw drop and my eyes wide. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Forever grateful for whoever took the time to film these locations and cherish the memories!!
*Update* My life is now complete. Never in my life would I see Wales, WI in action.
Thank you so much - this is why posting these movies is fun - so others can enjoy. I have to wonder how many other canisters of old movies are in people's basements, waiting to be discovered?....
@@killerbee6310 I just learned about Clint's passing. May he rest in peace, but a damn good railroad man. 🙏🏻
At 1:15...something melancholy about watching a train moving away from you,I want to watch it until... Railfan in St Paul MN since 1949,#9 r.r.passed thru...just a great video, Thanks 👍
And thank you. I have more to post - just a matter of time to produce them.
I was just about ready to go to bed and I saw this come up on the screen and I felt the time transporter come out. Having grown up in Milwaukee a super thank you. Some of it I remember and really enjoyed the yellow FM Switcher as my Uncle Ray Bliesner 50-year veteran with MILW worked that job on 2nd trick. Some of those angles even brought out buildings I had never seen before. Bless Clint for being out there photographing this stuff and for you for bringing it to the screen I expect good dreams tonight!
Thank you for your comments Paul !!
I was almost born then
I missed out on so much
Time gone by and no one care now a days
Fun to watch
Thank you for your comment !!
Excellent history. Rare to see video of passenger trains going through Wales WI! Excellent!
Thanks for the feedback - makes it all worthwhile.
WOW ! This is an awesome film. I lived in Dane , Wisconsin in the late 70's and this hit all my old haunts. I hope Clint shot some F Units on the M&P , that was a fine chase back then !! Thanks for sharing this !
LOL - glad to accommodate
Wow... just wow! This video was shot before my time but I recognize most of the locations. Seeing these trains and locations in video is so much better than static photos. Thank you for posting this.
My pleasure. Am happy to post them so everybody can see them.
Great Milwaukee Road and CNW footage.I remember the 400 going past as a youngster.
Very nice. I road the last train from Madison to Chicago with my father in 1964 or early 65 I was 7 and the ground had snow on it.
Glad you enjoyed it !!
My old stomping grounds late 80’s and early 90’s. Love watching the Wisconsin central railroad then but wished I was around when the Milwaukee railroad operated. Video brings back pleasant memories. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
Great history of private passenger trains! Thanks for posting!
My pleasure - these need to be seen.
THANK YOU!
YOU'RE WELCOME !!
Back in the 1960's, and I remember when The Milwaukee Road used to run Passenger Trains between Calumet, Michigan in Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Chicago, Illinois. 1:36
Yep - movies of those will be forthcoming (soon...eventually....)
The Copper Country Limited. Trains 9/10
Wonderful imageries, and such variety! What is that super-long special at 16:42? Most impressive--old Milwaukee could really handle the traffic when necessary. Thanks for sharing!
Unfortunately, I do not know what that train was. Clint's notes did not indicate it.
Outstanding! Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Great stuff! well before my time.
Me to but I am happy to bring them to life regardless.
Loved the film shot in Hartland where I grew up. I boarded the Hiawatha there for trips to and from Milwaukee. Also loved nearby Pewaukee shots of train going past the frozen lake with ice fishermen. This is a treasure.
I had the same thought with the ice fishing scene. I also like all the platform activity at Oconomowoc. Like the kid on his bike.
12:59 looks like near Ferryville. Possibly Rush Creek. Looks so different nowadays.
this is excellent!! thanks!!
The credit goes to Clint for having the foresight to capture all this! More to come.
The steam locomotive on the flatcar is Lousiana Cypress Lumber Co #2. It went to Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, WI. Sold at auction in 2015 to a private owner.
Excellent - thank you for resolving this. I figured someone would come thru with the explanation.
@@killerbee6310Clint helped found the museum at North Freedom.
Outstanding movies....
Thank you. Much appreciated coming from you.
Wonderful selection and narration. Just subscribed for more!
Good to hear because there will indeed be more.
Love the clips, so awesome to see this from back in the day. Only wish the native audio (if any) was included. Those locos had such voice!
Me too. I don't want to dub in unless it is a really good match...which I don't have, unfortunately.
This is wonderful, Brian! It's neat to see this and it's fantastic that you're taking the time to preserve and publish what Clint originally recorded for us all 60 years ago. I'm betting he couldn't have dreamed then the way these would someday reach thousands of people who could watch them at their convenience in their homes! A great tribute to his work.
This may be more effort than it's worth, but have you considered including at the end of the video description text a list of trains and locations (where known)? Even more work admittedly would be to then index that to the time in the video too. I was thinking you might already have such notes for what you do with the narration that could be pasted in though? The point of my suggestion is that then I believe that would make that data searchable via the youtube search box for future reference/research. For example, someone searching for "Milwaukee Road Football Train" might be able to find this video and the clip in it where they otherwise never would. The UA-cam automatic "Transcription" feature doesn't seem to be worth a lot for topics like this from what I see.
Like I say I have no doubt you have a lot of effort into these productions already, so no worries if the idea adds too much extra. Alternatively it is something where once the video is posted, other volunteers could help compile that data as they watch and send it to you to add to the description too. No matter what these sure are cool to see!
Thanks for your ideas. At the very end of the video is a shot of the notes. I have just the barest of details to work with - usually just location and train number, if even that. In fact, for this video there were no notes for its second portion. So I am unable to give much more detail than what I already have. Anyway, more to come....
Excellent! Being born, raised, and still living in the Midwest, and having spent most of my life in ex-Milwaukee Road territory, I have a certain fondness for that line. Any footage of Hartford, WI?
Rats, I am afraid not.
Well done Killer Bee......Is the collection of films large? I am surprised there was no steam given Clint's interests.
It was several hours worth of movies. He actually had an entire reel (about 400') of a private steam logging operation on Vancouver Island (may have been Mac Blo but not sure) but I chose not to digitize them.
@ 8:12... now this is the coolest part of the vid... i've never seen a coal tender used like that before... and btw, do you know how steam ejector air conditioning works??????... never heard of that... heck to be honest i didn't even know they had a.c. back then
Well to be honest I had never heard of it either until I solicited help in identifying what the tender was being used for in the summer
My employer uses high pressure steam to drive a 1000 ton chiller to cool buildings. Probably the same process as the trains a/c.
@@chichard86
thanks for the info...
i'm gonna have to read up on that
Interesting. Do you have any footage of the Lake Michigan car ferry railroad operations?
Here is a link to another of my videos showing the M&LS at Manistique, MI with an AA ferry. ua-cam.com/video/r3wsm72DlU0/v-deo.html
Rolyal American Shows was a carnival that supplied rides for the Wisconsin State Fair. They came into the grounds on the track on the north side, south of I90/94. The 2 Spot was restored and ran steam service at Mid-Continent for years. It was restored again but the owner and MCRM had a fall out and it left. I believe it is now in Oregon.
I knew I would get comments resolving the mystery of this locomotive. Thank you for commenting.
Does anyone know what passenger service the switcher at 8:12 was hauling? How often were these engines and steam tenders used as regular power?
That was train 12, the morning "Cannonball" - the commuter train from Watertown to Milwaukee.
Wait! They had commuter trains from Milwaukee! No more. Progress...
No Northern Pacific???
Subbed!
Thank you very much !!
ugh!! forget the back ground noise
It was ok.
always good to get every opinion - thank you. I constantly wrestle with what to do.
@@killerbee6310fits the r.r. scene's in Midwest..👍🎵👍
