I've found that the Breman brand of locking pliers are quite good. They are made in Taiwan which have been making pretty good quality tools for decades .
Odd. I work at international paper and 1 of machines is Taiwanese made.im alwasys welding something to fix the low grade steel that their products are made from. Hand tools might be ok with low carbon steel but not machinery.
Amazing, I just saw these things for sale (Milwaukee ones) and was curious about them. I'll probably never have need for a tool like this but I learnt so much about the size of them (marketing photos often don't show any perspective), how they work, what they shouldn't be used on, a warning not to twist them if I ever do find myself using such a beast... I should have gone into the trades but I just wasn't interested in cars, tools or machinery when I was younger. Really appreciate your thorough musings about them instead of just showing them out of the packet and saying 'they look good'. Cheers from New Zealand.
I purchased a bunch of the Bremen locking pliers to semi retire my Petersen Mfg Vice Grips.. I just can’t bring myself to wear out the last of my “Cadillac” pliers. The ones I have had in the 5” 7” 10” and locking clamps have been extremely good tools. I actually prefer them to the new import Vice Grips. One thing to note is how the over center pivot is inserted on these vs VG. On VG the pivot is put in after the screw.. Bremen before, which is actually nice for the clamps especially when fabricating and trying to hold something while removing the clamp with one hand and it was TIGHT. VG will fly open and generally the pivot will pop out eliminating the ability to reposition and reclamp without reassembling the tool first. With Bremen that is completely eliminated. I use the new VG clamps daily at work and the Bremen at home and I can tell you the Bremen are actually superior in fit finish and performance over the Chinese VG. This one handed thing is something I wanted to point out for a future comparison to try for yourself.

I have a set Harbor Freight Mini Vice Grip pliers. They work pretty good for the small parts that I have to work with. And I, haven't broke any yet. So I have no complaints yet. Nice job showing a rare, hard to find yet invaluable tool.I've had my Vise Grip brand chain wrench for about 25 years and they've probably been used 100 times when nothing else would do the job. Nearly every time I use them someone asks me what they are where can I get one. Now that I know harbor freight has them I know what to say. Thanks again.
How do I keep the plier ends from rubbing the pipe and inhibiting the wheels? I'm under an RV with limited space and lots of gas a couple inches from the gas filler pipe I'm cutting. I used these with a pipe in a vice and they made quick work of it, but I could hold them just so. Plan "B" I guess. Maybe a non-sparking hacksaw blade if there is room.
Look much better than the Amazon generic ones I just bought and the Bremen are half the price. I'm under a class 37 foot motorhome and I have little room to move these due to an I-beam frame and other obstacles. The plier ends keep rubbing the gasoline pipe I'm cutting after I begin to move it around a bit. Like you said you have to be careful, however, I am careful. I think they have to be held straight? And I don't have that luxury. I've got gas in the tank and Im only a few inches away from it and I can't have sparks which is the reason that I am using this kind of tool. Does anyone have an idea?
Hi Catus , Thanks for the Reviews as Always ! There are/were Companies that Make Chain Oil Filter Wrenches . Just not Locking . You Just hook the Chain on A Small Hook . Had Mine For Years ! Now I Use A Cap Socket .
I wonder if these would be better than handcuffs. put a pair of chain wrench (E.G. vice grips) on some thieves when they get outside of the store I'll bet if it doesn't do permanent damage they won't be stealing again.
That groove next to where the chain is attached is where the excess chain is to be routed. Thanks for the laughs on you fighting to connect the chain. 🤣🤣🤣
There is no limit on the length of chain with chain wrenches and vice grips it's just a little bit of a hassle to press the pins out and join Two Chains together

I won't buy anything but channel lock or vice grip brand vice grips. I have these brand vice grips as well. Channel lock make a tongue and groove just like the knipex pliers for a fraction of the cost and USA made.

I had to order the Irwin ones because my local Harbor Freight doesn’t sell the vise grips with the chains.

SMH both Chinese made. No such thing as taiwanese made. Taiwan is 95% ethnic Chinese.
