The shading is killing these awesome figures. Neca seems to be the only company that’s doing it correctly. Mondo I wish didn’t do the shading as well. These figures would look better without it. It doesn’t look good. 🍻
The black shading on Batman is just ridiculous, I kinda get what they were aiming for but look at the artwork of how it’s done and not just guess at it!
All these McFarlane animated series Batman figures are massive down grade compared to the dc direct/ collectibles figures I rather pay more for the original ones instead of heap of garbage
@@ToyShizhi i wanna ask are these mcfarlane batman animated series action figs limited or they still produce till couple years? Because i want to collect these action figs when i have a job
The cell shading on Batman can easily be removed with onyx nail polish remover. Be careful with the regular black though because that’s painted on grey plastic
Despite the size difference, I can't wait to build Condiment King! I'm a sucker for whacky one off characters and he is one of the most memorable. I'm also REALLY hoping Todd rereleases the animated Batcave, which I am now ready to purchase for MSRP (I was not back then and it remains one of my biggest toy regrets).
So when I bought all 4 last night I did notice my Scarecrow has the platinum sticker lols… I looked for other platinum figures but didn’t see any, and now I understand why. I need a Batbike tho…
Honestly I wish Hasbro and Mcfarlane just get rid of this "Cel-shading" gimmick and just do regular paint on them. In the animated shows, they are just simple shadow and highlight on the character. It just doesn't work when translating into action figure form, the "cel-shaded" parts look like some ugly paint slop and don't look like shading at all.
May have to suck it up and pay the $30, I did hear the batcycle was showing up for $30 instead of $40 at checkout. I got lucky and got it for $30, an error by Target from what I heard.
That Batman chest is quite different not just the crunch but they hollow a bit the size of the pecks on the sides so he can grab the batcycles steering wheel. As far as I can tell
I really like the Batman, and the things that seem to bother most people about it (cape and cel shading) don’t bother me at all. He at least looks somewhat accurate and he has boot swivel and ab crunch, along with a cloth cape, that’s all I wanted.
Yeah exactly. I know a lot of people will just look at the figure and say, cool, now let’s throw em on a bat cycle and be done with it, and that is totally fine. Thanks for watching!
I might pick these up. DC Direct line was hard to get for me, and after market is high. Plus, it looks like the plastic is a bit sturdier, and they stand easier compared to older lines, the ones I had would fall and break all the time
I wonder if any other BAFs like Condiment King are planned - theres some characters DCD never managed to get to like Clock King and Red Claw which would be nice
I imagine all these characters we never got will be build a figures too to force those of us that have DC Collectibles figures will have to buy reissued figures.
Sadly I didn’t get these when they came out and I just started collecting figures found out they started to do this reissued line and I’m kinda bummed with the shading it just looks sloppy but I do think the scarecrow and mr freeze looks decent so hopefully I can pick these up
Are these figures full blown re-issues of the originals? It will make collecting, such as that Alfred, great additions to my original figures without having to re purchase
It’s not just the cel shading it’s the glossy paint they use which makes them look plastic the dc direct/ collectibles are 100 times better than this garbage
Man, I was very excited for this line since I wasn't too keen on the DC Collectibles line and thought this was a possible second chance. Any and all enthusiasm I had went out the door when I discovered that these were just inferior repaints.
Best review of this wave by far. These are a bitch to find. I have only the Platinum Scarecrow lol. I need the rest. Sold my original DC Collectibles Robin and Freeze in anticipation of this one. McFarlane Toys needs to curb the cel shading for sure and keep going forward. Give us Lock Up!
These prices are absolutely ridiculous in store and in a year or two you'll probably come across them in a ROSS'S store or Ollie's for a fraction of that price
Are these softer than the DC Direct releases? The old ones would break at the joints a lot because of the cheap and delicate plastic they were made of. A lot of DC Direct figures did that tbh.
Yeah, that was my biggest concern. The old DC Direct ones were hard to find. And due to the proportions, they would often fall and break because of the brittle plastic
I'll stick with the original DC Collectibles Batman from Batman: The Animated Series. That has better proportions and the biggest selling point, doesn't have the awful cel shading. Batman on the new one looks particularly bad. I recently bought my holy grail Batman: The Animated Series figure, Combat Belt Batman by Kenner.
Todd has to stop shading. However, I'll still buy them (Batman New Adventures Penguin) but I wish he would expand on Justice League Unlimited and give us Mattel's Holiday Hal Jordan!!! Hawkgril with mace would be appreciated too.
I saw all of them minus batman at target.....I'm gonna gamble and hope they eventually make these minus the terrible cell shading! I have some serious FOMO though. But I'm hoping Todd does Todd with these and even puts out the condiment king with more paint. These things aren't worth 30 bucks as they are now
Ugh McFarlane is being McFarlane with this line unfortunately. Really glad to see this line being re-released but just wish McFarlane would refrain from interjecting anything and just copy the originals.
What a bummer.. they seriously need to make up for it with future waves. Alfred is a good start. But perhaps something new, in scale and no sunburn cellshading. Batman looks awful.
The shading and articulation hurt these figures. I get that a lot of people prefer their figures having lots of articulation (including me) but Bruce times art style does not lend itself to this level of articulation.
Honestly was not a fan of the Batman figure from this release. Wish they could have kept the BTAS body mold from DC collectibles and got rid of the shading... other than that I like the rest of the figures
I had the entire collection of dc collectibles btas . Sold three items last year, scarecrow, rogues gallery and mad love set. Mainly because I got a good price for them. Condiment King was "Mcfarlane-ized" with his height 🤣...too bad Robin wasnt improved with extra articulation and a cloth cape with extra helmet for the cycle....
Bruce Timm's WB BTAS streamlined lazy designs don't hold up or lend themselves well to the action figure community. Action figures have gotten pricey - and nostalgic less detail might be easier for Timm and co to animate for cartoons - but it sure as shit makes for an eyesore unspectacular action figure. It didn't work for the BTAS 90s inarticulate overrated toys, and moreover doesn't work now. They've gotten stale and boring. Too many perfect comic book detail perfect action figures now to settle for these.
You are bugginnnn. Streamlined lazy designs?? The BTAS design and art work coupled with the dark deco scenery is iconic and set a standard in 90s animation that lended both aesthetic and drama. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

Mondo is very good at cell shading though.

Maybe because they released these figures (Batman at least) previously without the cell shading
Are you getting the joker interrogation room scene from Mcfarlane dc multiverse
No, no interest
What's holding me back from picking these up is the price, I'll wait for them to go on clearance then I'll buy the wave.
I felt the same way. I almost bought Batman and Robin yesterday. I bought the batcycle instead.
Don’t think they’ll be on clearance. They’re barely stocked and when they are, they get bought quickly
May have to suck it up and pay the $30, I did hear the batcycle was showing up for $30 instead of $40 at checkout. I got lucky and got it for $30, an error by Target from what I heard.
Honestly, that's how I pick up most of my Mcfarlane figures. Only really give them a second look when they're in the clearance aisle.
How to change the Bat-teries? 😁
How's the quality/plastic VS the orig DC Collectible ones? Hasbro feels or still the same McFarlane feels?
It’s a mix. The new Mcfarlane ones you can clearly tell the diff between the old ones. But moreso plastic feeling than the matte painted feel.
McFarlane Toys has been re-using alot lately and I wouldn't mind it if they at least updated the joints on the figures.
I'm totally digging these. But I agree with everything you said. These bigger toy companies need to do better.
How you digging these there awful
