Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Miriam Margolyes, Tony Robinson and Tim McInnery. Some comedy Royalty in this one....they don’t make sitcoms of this calibre anymore.
Fun fact - the Bishop dude from the last one was the same dude as the creepy gestapo guy who burned his hand on the medallion then had his face melted in raiders of the lost ark - loving your content man 👍🏻
@@CMDRRustyDog haha, well we could name classic British comedy all day……well maybe not, but u know what I mean 😆….everbody’s got a fave; there’s no right answer here! 😉
Yes, it was Miriam minus all the crosses. She also appeared in series 1 in the episode 'The King of Spain's Beard' and the 50 minute special 'Blackadder's Christmas Carol'...
Being that Margolies is IRL a Jewish lesbian, it's doubly impressive she plays a Puritan with such vigour - she has said in interviews it was something she was always a little in two minds about, but she always brings her A-game.
See Miriam on Graham Norton when she talks about "helping out" an American serviceman. Or creaming her pants when she met Sir Laurence Olivier. The looks on the other guests faces are so funny!!
We all have our favourites, but I thought each season was better than its predecessor. Season 4 had some of the best laughs for me, but also added poignancy
I'd love to see a video of you ranking all the British sitcoms you've now watched as you've seen a lot of them. I'm curious which ones are your favourites.
Some of the lines in this episode reminded me of Upstart Crow, another Elizabethan era sit com written by Ben Elton and David Mitchell playing Shakespeare.
Just wonderful to see Yanks enjoying some of our finest English humour! Very encouraging! Blackadder is pure English comedy: rich language, tightly wrote - deadpan and silly simultaneously. Very glad you're enjoying! If you want a more modern English comedy that is so brilliantly written, an accurate satire of English politics featuring some of the most creative swearing ever employed anywhere, then try The Thick of It. Even if it's just for the character of Malcolm Tucker who is one of the top characters in a sitcom ever. A BBC comedy that won a sh*tload of awards when it was showing and was created by the creator of Veep with Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep is a kind of American version, but less sweary). Give it a go!
Dude, you cut some of the best punchlines! "Chairs are an invention of Satan...in my house, Nathaniel sits on a spike!" "And yourself?" "I sit on Nathaniel. Two spikes would be extravagant!" "Lord Whiteadder, a vow of silence. How interesting...tell me about it!"
One of my favourite episodes, the ending cracks me up every time without fail! I really feel for you over the sketchbook story, as an artist and someone who drew a lot of fantasy art as a teen, it would have killed to have my work destroyed like that over something so ridiculous!
Great reaction, matey. Immensely fun episode. Who knows though, your auntie may have saved the world - your sketchbook indeed could have gone all Evil Dead Necronomicon on us and opened a gateway to hell, and it would have all ben After Work Reaction's fault! Thank you, AWR Auntie.
You really need to watch Miriam Margolyes videos especially her many appearances on The Graham Norton Show. She is so hilariously naughty and wicked, she is a joy to watch because you never know how far she’ll go telling a story but there will always be a sting in the tale😉
Miriam margolyes was great in Blackadder 1 as the Spanish queen and brilliant in blackadder 3 Christmas special as queen Victoria.....Not sure how Hugh Laurie went from this and ended up in 'House'
I heard an anecdote about the actors complaining about Miriam Margolyes hitting real hard, and pleading for her at least in the rehearsals to tone it down a bit.
"STUPID BOY! COLD IS GOD'S WAY OF TELLING US TO BURN MORE CATHOLICS!"... 😂😂😂😂 as an English Catholic myself, whose family were persecuted in Tudor England, this is still one of the best lines in Blackadder. They simply dont write comedy like this anymore in case it offends anyone...
Baldrick is so funny :D Ey Josh, ever seen Benny Hill (prob you have)? I could find 3 vids/episodes that are pretty funny: New York Bar, Black Spot & On The Beach.
There are great actors whose contributions made black adder so good Stephen fry black adder goes forth Brian blessed black adder and Miranda Richardson she was absolutely brilliant growing up watching movies in which Elizabeth the 1st was an intelligent tough nonsense queen to Miranda's squeaky high pitch girly brat
Hugh Laurie everytime I see him in old comedy's i just think no wonder he had to go to America to get a serious acting role. He's great but it was jarring to shake the Bertie Worcester persona.
Just as a simplistic interpretation, as someone who watched this as a 13-year-old: puritans are like the Miriam Margolyes character. Puritans found the religious freedoms of England intolerable and so they escaped to created their puritan new world in America which is why your your country is all puritan Christian far-right-esque. I’m not saying that’s true. I’m saying that puritans and Americans are the same in my mind because of this episode of Blackadder.
Miriam Margolyes is absolutely superb in this! She is also hilarious in real life...every interview she does is gold.
A favourite of Graham Norton 😍
Her soldier story on Graham Norton 😂😂
@@darktrooper77 I'm STILL not sure whether to believe it or not.
Hes done a few of those on the Graham Norton show 😄
HOLY SHIT how did I never twig that’s Miriam
Tim McIlhenny's 'turnip that looks like a thingy'.... priceless 😂😂😂
"Blackadder couldn't hold his beer,
The art of drinking he's not mastered.
And I the merry balladeer,
am also well and truly plastered."
Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Miriam Margolyes, Tony Robinson and Tim McInnery. Some comedy Royalty in this one....they don’t make sitcoms of this calibre anymore.
Very true man!
Blackadder is truly hallowed at my house. Bean was okay, but Edmund, he's the killer. I watch 'em over and over...
You mean ROWAN Atkinson! 😡 😆
@@deadjesta4973 yeah, I didn’t even spot that. I don’t know if that was careless typing or autocorrect. Cheers 👍
"A bit of Fry and Laurie" is also great. It stars Fry and Hugh Laurie. It was crazy to see Hugh Laurie star as House on Network TV
Excellent. I've sung the 'see the little goblins' song many times whilst drunk!
😅🍻
LOL that is awesome man.
Fun fact - the Bishop dude from the last one was the same dude as the creepy gestapo guy who burned his hand on the medallion then had his face melted in raiders of the lost ark - loving your content man 👍🏻
He was Harris in Porridge too. Extraordinary to think that one man could inhabit those three roles so brilliantly. What a versatile actor he was.
Ronald Lacey, also was Dylan Thomas on screen.
wow... I genuinely didn't know this, nice one guys
I didn't know that. Thanks for that little nugget of info.
This is BY FAR the BEST episode of Blackadder. Absolutely brilliant
This was a great episode I enjoyed it alot!
Blackadder s02 is one of the greatest British comedy series ever….if not, THE greatest 😍
Fawlty Towers is better
@@MichaelM28 I disagree….. Fawlty towers is up there, but Blackadder 2 is better imho
I'll see your Blackadder and raise you Only Fools & Horses, Dads Army and even Steptoe & Son.

Yes, Edmund's aunt was played by Miriam Margolyes. Blackadder II is the best of the 4 series.

Good idea ☺
That's a good idea!
Brilliant episode! That was Miriam Margoyles by the way.
Miriam Margolyes was also fantastic as the Infanta in "The Queen of Spain's Beard" from the first season.
i always think that his aunt would go batshit when he says “oh my god my ear muffs have fallen down”
Blasphemy? WICKED CHILD!!!
It certainly is Miriam Josh x
I love how you called Baldrick Podraigh at the end. lol.
Some of the lines in this episode reminded me of Upstart Crow, another Elizabethan era sit com written by Ben Elton and David Mitchell playing Shakespeare.
Miriam is also in an episode of The Black Adder (series 1)
That was definitely the lovely Miriam!
The woman who sits next to the Queen is Bernard.

"Lady Whiteadder" is a parody of uptight self-appointed moral guardian Mary Whitehouse.
Miriam Margolyes - the aunt slapping everyone - was actually slapping everyone.
The Bishop you mentioned - Ronald Lacey, the Nazi that melted in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Yep it’s our Miriam! 🤣👍🏻
Awesome thanks bud!
Bloody hell, your aunt sounds like Oliver Cromwell who banned Christmas celebrations, carol singing and football.
LOL

I’m still waiting patiently for Father Ted season 3 🤔🤗 Seems like it’s been a while and the 3rd seasons the best.
Can't wait for you to see Hugh Laurie in seasons 3 & 4. He takes the whole Percy imbecile character to another level.

Where did you get the T shirt? I want one. That could be used in Blackadder 5 or 6.
