As ex RN I can tell you that the UK armed forces are well trained and integrated. Our kit and operations control is significantly improved over that last 15 years and our battlefield tech and comms are 1st division (as oppose to say the French which is second). For the size of population we have one of the largest armed forces. HOWEVER, we have too few blue water Warships (although increasing rapidly) and our RAF is under strength as a stand alone fighting force.
Our role is to integrate with allies (NATO) which we do well and train with the French and US A LOT. We integrate well with them and have massive respect for each other. The only nations that have the capability to wage war independently against a first division armed forces are the US and China. Russia not so much....they have been rearming massively but remain way behind being technologically integrated and do not have the economy to wage war or project much beyond their borders...which are very exposed.
Hopefully...none of this will ever be tested.
P.S. we do not need the permission of the US or any other nation to use any weapons systems....including Trident....complete tosh!

He doesn't know if they ever issue live ammunition, but he had never been issued it once while acting as the Queen's Guard. Even during high terror alerts.
Queen's Guard will ward and threaten any problems and they can detain a problem. But that's about it, anything else and they'll call the police with a button in their sentry box.
There are armed police chilling out in several places nearby that'll come running if there's a serious threat.
But since these are real soldiers with real combat experience, it's not like if anything poses a threat to the safety of the people around them that they'll do nothing. The bayonets are real, lets not forget. It's just that dealing with criminals isn't their job and so a loaded firearm is going to cause more problems than it solves.

I was in the army cadets in Preston for 4 years and I loved it. So many once in a lifetime experiences. I learnt how to strip and reassemble an L98A2 and fired live rounds down the range and after a few years more training I got to fire a machine gun with live rounds down a drain. We did field craft at camps and we slept under a thin waterproof sheet. We had to take turns to guard our post and I was literally in a ditch and it was pouring down with rain and I had to stay there with this guy for hours. We went walking through waterfalls, rock climbing and going through underground caves. I also transferred to the musical cadets called Corp of Drums and I learnt the flute. We went to Malta Military Tattoo to represent the country there as the North West. It was amazing. We had a 5 star hotel with a swimming pool and all you can eat. We went to a swimming resort and had a pool party and it was only 50 pounds. But there was a lot of discipline involved too like uniform checks every night including boots and if you couldn't see your reflection in your boots you were in trouble. We had room inspection at least twice a day on camps and have to march everywhere and if someone in your squad has been messing around you have to walk all the way back and start again. So it could take up to an hour to finally have a break or food

I mean lets take India here for example. Now BEFORE the industrial revolution, India was one of the richest countries on Earth by their FARMING agriculture. (Same with China) The industrial revolution happened and machines meant higher farming crop yields. The British came to India and yes some wealth was stolen, but we built you railways, we built you roads, we gave you more knowledge in the form of schools and hospitals etc the list goes on. I personally think that its corruption in India holding it back, because India has almost the same population as China and India did have a better infrastructure than China when WE took over and built these things for them but China is now really doing a better job of it. That just leads me to corruption, because India is lagging behind (Sorry Indians but you are, We gave you the infrastructure to better yourselves and you seriously lag behind China and STOP THOSE SCAM CALL CENTRES!) But the KEY question here is... What if the British never came to India and therefore never got this infrastructure and knowledge given to them by the British? More backward by corruption?

Cyprus was a British colony with a Greek Cypriot and Turkish population. On the conclusion of a prolonged terrorist campaign the British agreed to hand over the island to a Cypriot government, representing both communities, in 1960. The UK retained two large Sovereign Base Areas (British Overseas Territories) with access to over twenty military installations across the island. In 1963 trouble erupted as Turks protested against oppression by the majority Greek population and the British had to intervene. In 1974 the Greek military staged a coup with the intention of handing Cyprus over to Greece, in response Turkey invaded taking just under half the island. After the cease fire a buffer zone between Greek and Turkish zones was policed by UN forces including British.

I have bred German shepherds for over 50 years, A good number of them going to security and other services. They are a well behaved highly intelligent animal in all respects. Also very Loyal to its owner. Any dog will reflect the way it is trained by its owner and will pick up on the owner being aggressive or otherwise. If a dog is treated with kindness and respect he will reflect that and guard you to his death. And he will behave exactly how you train him/her. Like it or not that is the facts.

Even with fixed bayonets on rifles, you are still able to fire - however, if a problem was to ever arise, it would most likely be resolved by plain clothes CTSFOs who linger around observing all that happens (they tend to get issues MP7s I believe). Additionally, the horse guard (the ones with the big sabres) are authorised to resolve any issue with their sword. Although shown as ceremonial units when operating domestically in London as such, they are certainly not just for show and will not hesitate to use any force required upon them as they are given the resources and clearance to do so.

I did most of my time at Marham with about eighteen months at Brize, I also did a two week exercise at Lossie. Yep, they used to love doing proper low level flying. When I joined they used to do this thing when the pilots got to 1,000 flying hours they would fly across the Hardened Shelters and see how close they would get to the roofs. I heard six feet. When you heard them, they were gone. Scared the crap out of everyone! For safety reasons, they stopped.
