Its not often I say this but i actually prefer the anime to the manga. In fact I really really liked the anime. The cinematography as well as music are amazing. The art style is visually pleasing and the characters are all so unique in their design. I also love the consistent imagery with the rain and how it gets progressively sunnier the more the two of them begin to heal. I love the story too. Most people think it's a romance in the sense that Tachibana and Kondo are in love. And while Tachibana does have some sort of affection for him, that is not the main 'romance' and Kondo never really pursues her. In both the anime and manga he acknowledges the age gap and tries to encourage Tachibana to run again. In the manga he does kind of begin to fall for her but he tackles it with maturity and never acts on those feelings. In fact he basically shuts down their relationship altogether. This anime is not something creepy. It's a romance because it's about two people who have lost their love for the thing the enjoy most. For Tachibana its running track and for Kondo its writting. Both of them stop doing what they enjoy and settle for less. And its referenced massively when they use the metaphor of the bird that was nesting at the cafe. Tachibana asks Kondo if a bird that doesn't leave the nest can be happy and he says that while some happiness maybe be found, that bird will always wonder what it feels like to fly in the sky. And i love that so much because it applies to both of them. And through what I think is a perfectly structured series of episodes, they each help the other to grow and find themselves again. The final scene perfectly concludes that journey, with the two of them promising to do better and achieve their goals. I also like to think that in this version they end up together again after fulfilling that promise- if not in a romantic way then in a familial way. Because I for one found them a really charming match whenever they had interactions. And while I wouldn't usually support a relationship such as this one, its somehow executed and presented here in a way that makes it seem okay. They felt quite compatible. I think Tachibana has a sense of maturity about her despite some of her behaviour in the earlier episodes. And Kondo definitely has a sense of immaturity and insecurity about him. I think this is what allows their relationship to be balanced out and get away with seeming not as odd. Idk maybe its just me but I really liked it!

It would certainly be interesting to see what they did with a second season as the ending to the first season is more of an original approach compared to the manga which is a bit more abrupt. I hope that if they do take it further they try and do things as well as they did in the first season.
This soundtrack is pure art. Heartbreakingly beautiful and unforgettable just as the story. Just like falling in love for the first time and it being unrequited.
This anime hit me really hard. It made me so happy and so very sad at the same time. Have you ever felt such a stupid way? Happy enough to cry but sad enough your heart hurts? I wish I could read these other comments.

Naaah its normal! I was excited for them finding true meaning again. By means sacfricing that they 'think they want' in the short term. But they will achieve their true 'why'. And that in itself is a great message. But indeed on the other spectrum sad that their other want can't be fulfilled at this time and moment.
it will bring out a smile and a tear. it will give you nostalgia. a very beautiful story, with an excellent realization, with many layers, and two protagonists to remember for a long time. it would be too frivolous to say that this series is BEAUTIFUL.
