I have never heard of this product before. I follow your channel for your drone footage. But this video has introduced me to dji microphones.. I shall look into this bit of kit :)
It's pretty new, and about to go on sale. I'm very impressed with what DJI have created here and can tell you that if you're looking for a way to record audio, this is the way to do it.
OK I had to break down and order (ordered April 6 with estimated delivery May 26!) partly due to this review. Probably overkill for my needs. Don’t really do UA-cam videos but am the de facto family videographer. I have two young girls and put videos together all the time for our trips. Occurred to me at a recent kindergarten school show how cool it would have been to mic up my 6 year old during the show. This damn thing is just to cool!
@@PhillipSkraba I am just testing it and I do love it. I actually prefer the sound when the microphone 🎙️ is attached on the front rather than hidden. But I will be treating this like a valuable possession without a doubt!
This system looks great from what I can see. The fact that you don't need an app I think it's great! Almost everything today needs and app... and that can get a bit frustrating.

Exactly!! It just makes life so much simpler not having to rely on an app, especially if you really need to change an option and you can't because you don't have access to a phone or laptop.
I just got the dji mics and there a great tool, I have very bad vision and I was kinda worried about the small screen on the receiver but I can see everything very clearly on such a tiny display, and all you points in the video spot on 👌
Excellent review as always! This really does seem like the best out there now. The fact that you can change ALL the settings from the main base is fantastic. Also, the feature where it will continue recording even if the mic cuts out from the main base is great. May need to pick this system up down the line! Don't need a wireless mic system yet, but definitely going to get to that point I think this year.

I always used an on camera mic, until I got the Rode Wireless GO, then the Wireless GO II, now this, which in my opinion is a more practical, more polished system, not that the Rode isn't any good anymore, I just feel so much safer being able to adjust every single parameter via the DJI Mic touchscreen. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by this mic!

I honestly have been a bit intimidated by these wireless systems just because it seems more "complex." Though from your videos of both the Rode Wireless GO and the DJI Mic here, seems to actually improve workflow and make things a bit easier.
I wouldn't say complex, they're really easy to use. Once you have them setup it's basically plug and play, especially with the DJI Mic, and any adjustments you need to make in the moment is simple to do too. I love using wireless mics, it just makes filming so free.

I just recently discovered this DJI Mic system and have recommended it to a friend who has made a purchase. The one thing neither of us know yet is, when you plug receiver directly into your iPhone does the camera app automatically default to using the DJI’s signal coming into the phone or do you need to go into a menu and choose the DJI Mic instead of the camera mic the phone would normally use?
How do you pull the audio from the receiver to upload into a computer? If I plug the receiver into an iPhone or iPad, how do I monitor or access the audio? No one seems to discuss this in any video.
Be careful from the RODE lavs with these, another youtuber tested them and it has the worst interference noise. Bought 2 Saramonic lavs with DJI Mic and won't be surprised if they have interference noise but hoping they don't. DJI Mic is still lagging and didn't get mine yet, preordered it since 7th of March and still not available on BH.
I’ve tried these with my Rode lavs and my Comica lavs, neither had any problems at all. Maybe someone had a broken lav line or something. Yes, I think they should be available pretty soon.

I am new to this and got the DJI mic before I’ve even seen this review. I have a question about this. When I plug the transmitter into my iPhone and record the audio doesn’t record to my phone. Do I have to export the video and audio separately and sync them? If so, why even plug the transmitter in if it’s not recording audio directly to my iPhone? I could just use the mic to record stand alone and sync the audio later. What is the purpose of the transmitter if it’s not recording to the device (phone or camera) that it’s plugged into?
Great video Phillip! I was wondering how did you manage to set your volume on your camera, transmeter, and receiver? I know you are suppose to lower the in camera mic as much as you can, but what about volume of the transmetter?
Ordered back in November 2021!!!!!. Sick of seeing loads of "Influencer" UA-cam videos, especially in last few weeks, yet no sign of "DJI Mic" for actual ordinary users. The reasons given for the delays do not make sense as it has now gone on for so long. No idea if I will eventually receive mine in May as latest availability update shows. Love DJI products and have loads of Drones, Cameras and Osmo's but the wait for the DJI Mics is just crazy, and annoying now with so many fresh influencer Videos appearing again, just like they did back in November last year. Like loads of others I have ended up buying Rode GO II systems.
I'm guessing they're appearing now as it's about to hit the shelves very soon, that's my understanding at least. I'm afraid I don't actually have any concrete information from DJI when exactly it'll drop. I can tell you that it's worth the wait.
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks for reply and a great video. Seeing all these latest videos just makes it more annoying considering the long wait and delays. Latest UK release date is now May. Over six months since I ordered it following all the influencer videos in November.
I can imagine, I remember seeing them back in November too and was blown away by them, I guess DJI needed to polish the final versions before mass production, that's my guess as why it's taken so long, and for me that's a positive thing that they're continuously making things better for us. I'd prefer to buy a well polish product a few months later than a half baked one now.

Well, let's hope it's worth your wait. I'm in love with this system, and from what I know, I have a retail version, so as soon as you get yours, you'll be overwhelmed I'm sure.

Well, the Rode has 32bit Float, but it's not real 32bit Float, something like the latest Zooms have 32bit Float, but that's a whole different ballgame and type of system. With the DJI you can have a safety channel, and that works really well, the -6dB should save you, well, unless you're really, really bad at audio levels.
Great review but you have the craziest echo in your audio Ive ever heard. Sound blankets would help a ton. Check out DSLR video shooters videos on them.
Sitting in the coffee shop, doing my morning routine, answering comments J. I have a massive room, 4m ceilings, and as much crap as I can fit in here to eat up that echo, but it still isn’t enough. Mic 20cm above head, just out of frame. Oh, and I can’t drill in the walls.

haha Caleb is cool, I love his style and calm, met him at NAB once. I haven’t tried in post, no. I will though, but have no idea how. I am a cinematographer, so audio is black magic for me. I love good mics, great sound, but am very basic when it comes to how it works.
I f-ing LOVE that mic. Can I justify the cost for the occasional screen recording, or voice over on my crap on toast videos??? He'll yes, I can justify it. Its cool. Works well... will grow with me -not from a sapling, as I was about to say, but from an atom, one of billions, that group, that forms the edge of a piece of the dust that blows across the plain, settles on a seed that causes it to fall upon the land, and through the moisture of the rich soil, sprouts a tendril...
Just unboxed mine and was confused why im unable to find the app. i actually would have loved to have an app because the screen is so tiny and fiddly :/
I guess some people might, but to be honest I’m not a sound guy, and even I can get the levels right, so I don’t even make use of the safety track. I’m sure in the future there will be more mics with 32bit float, I see Zoom is starting to incorporate it more and more, but that’s a different mic type all together.
I know you can connect a 3.5 mm headphone jack to the reciever and listen to the audio, fine and dandy. BUT.... how about listen wirelessly? I am stumped trying to find an audio record system that I can use with my DJI Osmo Action to listen to the incoming recorded audio with wireless earbuds (bluetooth).
Does it work with Android? Do I need to buy an extra piece for that? I heard that with the phone it works with one channel, is this true? And what about interference, is there interference if there are other devices nearby?

Hi Laura, it means you either have a stereo sound recorded, so a left and right channel, or you have one mono channel so no stereo effect going on, you won’t feel the difference between the left and right channel.

Well, I've been using the Rode Wireless GO 1 since the day it came out, about 3 years now, and the battery holds as it did the first day, so it's not something I think you should worry about.

The Wireless 1 I used a few times a week, until the GO 2 came out, then I left it for quite a while, charged it, and it seems the batteries are just as they were. I wouldn't worry about it.
Really? That is odd. They should plug in like any other microphone using the ttrs cable, make sure you're using that and not the try cable. You can still use these are stand alone systems. I'm afraid I don't own any android devices, only Apple, so that's not my expertise.
@@PhillipSkraba I thought so too, but the receiver triggers the Note 10 and Note 10+ to treat the C adapter as a external memory. Terrible! It won't work as easy as everyone says! Seem like i am not the only one with this issue!
That sounds like a problem on Samsung's end, not DJI's, none of the other devices I use treat it that way. I'm guessing Samsung needs to update their software or maybe there is an option in the Samsung settings where you can change what the usb-c input does?
Anyone have any tips on how to use this for musicians with an iPhone? Not being able to hear / playback audio from the phone while the mic is plugged in is a huge obstacle that makes it almost useless when trying to record music with it on the phone :( I keep having to unplug it, to listen back to my takes and I can’t sing and hear background music at the same time. Anyone have a solution?
Hi Phillip I bought DJI wireless mic but it's not recording sound. It's showing sound waves on the receiver while in am speaking but there is no sound in video. I have tested it on iPhone xr, one plus and canon mach 2 but there is no sound in video but the receiver is picking up sound as sound waves r reflecting. Wot might be the issue. Plz help
That is very odd indeed, a problem I haven't had with the DJI Mic. It could be a faulty one. I'd do a factory reset and see if that fixes it, if not, I'd get in touch with DJI asap.

thanks for the review Phillip. For me the downsides are: 1) without lav mic it looks weird. I hate square boxes mics (hello Rode), with lav it sounds like a good portable solution, but lav mic is not included as far I see. 2) Is there an xlr? If it's not included that would be a minus for me personally. I use sennheiser g4 and it totally covers my needs.
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks. How tough you find removing the adapters from the receiver? Sometimes, I feel I am putting too much force on the receiver when holding it to remove the adapter. Was it normal for you also during the initial days?
Here's the downside of the DJI Mic, if you're using an iPhone you can only record mono so you can't have separate channels which is a friggin bummer Man... For the love of God please make a lightning adapter that lets you keep the channel stereo on an iPhone. I just ordered a Rode SC15 cable to see if I can use this as a temporary workaround it works with the rode Go II, so when I get it in a couple days I'll test it out and let you know how it works. Again, DJI please develop a new lightning plug so we can have the option of going mono or stereo with an iPhone… I know I can record on each transmitter but it's just that much more work to bring it into the editing system and syncing it up. I'd rather be able just to drop it into the timeline and have separate Mic channels…
Nice dude. You sold me. I want it. I need it! 🤠 I gotta have it. Just one thing...the included bag to carry accessories isn't that lovely. I get a similar bag everytime I buy a bottle of Crown Royal and My wife's dildo stores in a similar sack. 🙏😂 One day in the future I can see myself rushing out the door grabbing equipment and ending up on site with a bag of dildos instead of my mike accessories.😮 Better keep em separated 😂
Now if only you can sort the echoey environment of your indoor environment! It's been bugging me for a while (Sorry) Kind of makes me not take you seriously. Especially on a review about sound.

I have a few rugs on the floor out of view when I film, but still a damn echo. The room is huge and the ceilings are almost 4m tall, so it’s quite a hard nut to crack. The DJI Mic is fantastic, no doubt one of the best I’ve used, if not THE best. Thanks Ade! I’ll continue doing what I can to make watching me less painful 😂
Your presentation is awesome Phillip! But what is going on with the empty room (video in a vacant house) sound! Your video is about a tool people would buy to improve the sound of their videos and you are in a cavernous space with the most echo of any youtuber I know! What gives?

I’ve got rugs on the floor, as much stuff in their to stop the bounce, rugs on the floor, but I can’t drill in the walls to get sound boards up, and the ceilings are almost 4m high in quite a large room. The gain control through the receiver is the biggest feature that’s enough reason to get it.

I have heard that DJI Mic System doesn't work well with lavaliers. Have you run into this issue?

The one thing neither of us know yet is, when you plug receiver directly into your iPhone does the camera app automatically default to using the DJI’s signal coming into the phone or do you need to go into a menu and choose the DJI Mic instead of the camera mic the phone would normally use?

I record a video on my iphone with the DJI mic and the video has no audio on my phone. Any ideas what the problem is?
How do you pull the audio from the receiver to upload into a computer? If I plug the receiver into an iPhone or iPad, how do I monitor or access the audio? No one seems to discuss this in any video.
Be careful from the RODE lavs with these, another youtuber tested them and it has the worst interference noise. Bought 2 Saramonic lavs with DJI Mic and won't be surprised if they have interference noise but hoping they don't. DJI Mic is still lagging and didn't get mine yet, preordered it since 7th of March and still not available on BH.
I’ve tried these with my Rode lavs and my Comica lavs, neither had any problems at all. Maybe someone had a broken lav line or something. Yes, I think they should be available pretty soon.

I am new to this and got the DJI mic before I’ve even seen this review. I have a question about this. When I plug the transmitter into my iPhone and record the audio doesn’t record to my phone. Do I have to export the video and audio separately and sync them? If so, why even plug the transmitter in if it’s not recording audio directly to my iPhone? I could just use the mic to record stand alone and sync the audio later. What is the purpose of the transmitter if it’s not recording to the device (phone or camera) that it’s plugged into?
Great video Phillip! I was wondering how did you manage to set your volume on your camera, transmeter, and receiver? I know you are suppose to lower the in camera mic as much as you can, but what about volume of the transmetter?
Ordered back in November 2021!!!!!. Sick of seeing loads of "Influencer" UA-cam videos, especially in last few weeks, yet no sign of "DJI Mic" for actual ordinary users. The reasons given for the delays do not make sense as it has now gone on for so long. No idea if I will eventually receive mine in May as latest availability update shows. Love DJI products and have loads of Drones, Cameras and Osmo's but the wait for the DJI Mics is just crazy, and annoying now with so many fresh influencer Videos appearing again, just like they did back in November last year. Like loads of others I have ended up buying Rode GO II systems.
I'm guessing they're appearing now as it's about to hit the shelves very soon, that's my understanding at least. I'm afraid I don't actually have any concrete information from DJI when exactly it'll drop. I can tell you that it's worth the wait.
@@PhillipSkraba Thanks for reply and a great video. Seeing all these latest videos just makes it more annoying considering the long wait and delays. Latest UK release date is now May. Over six months since I ordered it following all the influencer videos in November.
I can imagine, I remember seeing them back in November too and was blown away by them, I guess DJI needed to polish the final versions before mass production, that's my guess as why it's taken so long, and for me that's a positive thing that they're continuously making things better for us. I'd prefer to buy a well polish product a few months later than a half baked one now.
@@PhillipSkraba I agree and would have been happy if that was the reason DJI gave for the continual delays, but it was not the reasons they kepy giving. Be honest and open with your customers is always the best way forward.
Well, let's hope it's worth your wait. I'm in love with this system, and from what I know, I have a retail version, so as soon as you get yours, you'll be overwhelmed I'm sure.

Well, the Rode has 32bit Float, but it's not real 32bit Float, something like the latest Zooms have 32bit Float, but that's a whole different ballgame and type of system. With the DJI you can have a safety channel, and that works really well, the -6dB should save you, well, unless you're really, really bad at audio levels.
Great review but you have the craziest echo in your audio Ive ever heard. Sound blankets would help a ton. Check out DSLR video shooters videos on them.

Sitting in the coffee shop, doing my morning routine, answering comments J. I have a massive room, 4m ceilings, and as much crap as I can fit in here to eat up that echo, but it still isn’t enough. Mic 20cm above head, just out of frame. Oh, and I can’t drill in the walls.

haha Caleb is cool, I love his style and calm, met him at NAB once. I haven’t tried in post, no. I will though, but have no idea how. I am a cinematographer, so audio is black magic for me. I love good mics, great sound, but am very basic when it comes to how it works.

I guess some people might, but to be honest I’m not a sound guy, and even I can get the levels right, so I don’t even make use of the safety track. I’m sure in the future there will be more mics with 32bit float, I see Zoom is starting to incorporate it more and more, but that’s a different mic type all together.

I know you can connect a 3.5 mm headphone jack to the reciever and listen to the audio, fine and dandy. BUT.... how about listen wirelessly? I am stumped trying to find an audio record system that I can use with my DJI Osmo Action to listen to the incoming recorded audio with wireless earbuds (bluetooth).

Hi Laura, it means you either have a stereo sound recorded, so a left and right channel, or you have one mono channel so no stereo effect going on, you won’t feel the difference between the left and right channel.

The units are tiny but long will the internal battery life be before you have to throw the device away because the batteries aren't replaceable.
Well, I've been using the Rode Wireless GO 1 since the day it came out, about 3 years now, and the battery holds as it did the first day, so it's not something I think you should worry about.

The Wireless 1 I used a few times a week, until the GO 2 came out, then I left it for quite a while, charged it, and it seems the batteries are just as they were. I wouldn't worry about it.

Really? That is odd. They should plug in like any other microphone using the ttrs cable, make sure you're using that and not the try cable. You can still use these are stand alone systems. I'm afraid I don't own any android devices, only Apple, so that's not my expertise.
@@PhillipSkraba I thought so too, but the receiver triggers the Note 10 and Note 10+ to treat the C adapter as a external memory. Terrible! It won't work as easy as everyone says! Seem like i am not the only one with this issue!
That sounds like a problem on Samsung's end, not DJI's, none of the other devices I use treat it that way. I'm guessing Samsung needs to update their software or maybe there is an option in the Samsung settings where you can change what the usb-c input does?
Anyone have any tips on how to use this for musicians with an iPhone? Not being able to hear / playback audio from the phone while the mic is plugged in is a huge obstacle that makes it almost useless when trying to record music with it on the phone :( I keep having to unplug it, to listen back to my takes and I can’t sing and hear background music at the same time. Anyone have a solution?

Hi Phillip I bought DJI wireless mic but it's not recording sound. It's showing sound waves on the receiver while in am speaking but there is no sound in video. I have tested it on iPhone xr, one plus and canon mach 2 but there is no sound in video but the receiver is picking up sound as sound waves r reflecting. Wot might be the issue. Plz help
That is very odd indeed, a problem I haven't had with the DJI Mic. It could be a faulty one. I'd do a factory reset and see if that fixes it, if not, I'd get in touch with DJI asap.

thanks for the review Phillip. For me the downsides are: 1) without lav mic it looks weird. I hate square boxes mics (hello Rode), with lav it sounds like a good portable solution, but lav mic is not included as far I see. 2) Is there an xlr? If it's not included that would be a minus for me personally. I use sennheiser g4 and it totally covers my needs.
How tough you find the DJI mic? Did it ever fall while clipping on the shirt?
Mine has never fallen, no, super strong magnets.

I wouldn't call it high, I'd call it reasonable for what you're getting.
Here's the downside of the DJI Mic, if you're using an iPhone you can only record mono so you can't have separate channels which is a friggin bummer Man...
For the love of God please make a lightning adapter that lets you keep the channel stereo on an iPhone. I just ordered a Rode SC15 cable to see if I can use this as a temporary workaround it works with the rode Go II, so when I get it in a couple days I'll test it out and let you know how it works.
Again, DJI please develop a new lightning plug so we can have the option of going mono or stereo with an iPhone…
I know I can record on each transmitter but it's just that much more work to bring it into the editing system and syncing it up. I'd rather be able just to drop it into the timeline and have separate Mic channels…

I have a few rugs on the floor out of view when I film, but still a damn echo. The room is huge and the ceilings are almost 4m tall, so it’s quite a hard nut to crack. The DJI Mic is fantastic, no doubt one of the best I’ve used, if not THE best. Thanks Ade! I’ll continue doing what I can to make watching me less painful 😂
Your presentation is awesome Phillip! But what is going on with the empty room (video in a vacant house) sound! Your video is about a tool people would buy to improve the sound of their videos and you are in a cavernous space with the most echo of any youtuber I know! What gives?

I’ve got rugs on the floor, as much stuff in their to stop the bounce, rugs on the floor, but I can’t drill in the walls to get sound boards up, and the ceilings are almost 4m high in quite a large room. Must be my unit then. Compared even to wireless GO it’s noisy. With a lav plugged in it’s worse. Compared to my sennheiser ew100 kit it’s deafening.
