    Took two kids to different colleges both 600 miles from home. It is a cargo monster, never ran out. Drivability is solid, I know by avoiding reckless drivers on several occasions. We had the first year model, no issues but topped out at 25 mpg on the highway.

    I own a 2019 Odyssey. Great engine, great mileage for a v6. Good for my three young sons. My dislikes: rough shifts at 40km/h, manual rear gate doesn't raise very high, so I bump my head, and no AWD. My family's stuff will max out the payload when on vacation, and the design of the suspension doesn't seem to allow for helper air bags (unlike the earlier odyssey models). I will probably have to get a full sized SUV, when it's time, to replace it.

      It would be interesting to see what the take rate would be here in the States. Both Toyota and Chrysler offer AWD but finding out what percentage are sold that way is not easy. For Canadians, it might be just the ticket. Supposedly the flat floor of the current Odyssey can't happen with AWD.

    We just got a 2025 EX-L in US and we love it. Full disclaimer, I hate to drive a minivan but the practicality it offers w kids and cargo is far superior to similarly priced SUV’s. And it actually gets up and goes when I hit the gas. V6 has some pep. I highly recommend it if space is the primary need.

    I priced a Pacifica Limited AWD model, and it was north 0f 72K CDN dollars. Nice vehicle, but I don't want to live in it, I just want to drive it. When you see that kind of price tag, you definitely start thinking of alternatives, Suburban, Yukon, etc.

  • @mountainhobo

    So the second row still does not fold flat? (yeah, I know the seats can be removed, but they are very heavy, and it means you commit yourself to no second row seats for the entire trip).

    • @tortangtalong1

    • @mountainhobo
      @mountainhobo Місяць тому

      @@tortangtalong1 Most SUVs have foldable flat second row, so apparently it is no problem to work around Chrysler's patents, so I don't think that was the reason. Honda probably thought their "magic sliding seats" will be a competitive advantage, and decided to sacrifice folding flat. While sideways sliding seats are a neat trick, I think fold-flat seats provide much more important functionality. Note that larger SUVs are eating minivans' lunch, and it is not just the looks.

    The push button transmission is the best option, despite what you say. It keeps the gear shift out of the way of drinks and other buttons. Odysseys are too expensive and Honda should have offered a hybrid powertrain years ago. Based on info from another car reviewer, Honda doesn't plan a hybrid Odyssey in favor of EV development.

    Chrysler Pacifica has the stow and go seats. That’s a big plus for me. I actually wanted a small cargo van but they stopped making them for some reason. Now I’m looking at minivans. I know Honda and Toyota are notorious for reliability but still Pacifica has what I need. The most cargo room! Easy folding seats. Can’t overlook that.

    If you drive 15,000 miles a year the Sienna (35 mpg) will save you $1,600 a year in fuel over the Odyssey (22 mpg), over 10 years = $16,000.

    $58 Grand for a base model Yukon in USD. Damn. I think we paid about $16 Grand for our 1985 GMC Surburban (before they changed the name to Yukon XL in 2000.) It's funny one of the technology features we were impressed with was a button switch on the lower dash piece in the center of the dash (where your AC and radio system are now) that operated the rear window on the tailgate. I think there was a rear window frost defroster button there as well, come to think of it. And that was high tech for 1985. We traded it in in 1994 for one of those new 1994 Dodge Ram conversion vans. Which then got stolen down in Fort Lauderdale at a hotel my folks were staying at for the night before a cruise the next morning. They didn't even get all the luggage out before it was stolen. We think some grifters in the parking lot during a shift change scanned the electric lock code and got in that way, and then broke the steering column to start it and take off. Police found it about a month or two later abandoned along side of the road in Hollywood, FL absolutely torn apart on the inside. But no worries, I found us a 1996 Dodge van that was even better.

    Odyssey has an open airy front row, removable second row, and looks nice in my book. Coming from a mid-size truck I want more cabin room and better mpg. The Sienna looks horrible, and second row is not removable, and there are sketchy frontal crash ratings. Lastly, I don't trust Kia or Chrysler's engine and drive train which have poor reviews. Over my GMC Canyon, I would have a 1-2 mpg bump (meh), a lot more people space, and can still haul plywood or large items. But I agree with the reviewers, minivans are way too expensive. What I disagree with, is when you look at utility comparing to a full size SUV, minivans are much more practical and have more room.

    Well, it uses an antiquated V-6 with a timing belt instead of a modern chain (requires expensive service in the future), it brings warm memories of the past with its lousy fuel economy, it's competitive as it cost a lot too. Yes, with the extra cylinders (when they are working) it has good acceleration. I rate this car with 4 yawns out of 5.

      It’s $20k less than Sienna inflated prices. I’m pretty sure the timing belt won’t be a big deal at 160,000kms lol. The V6 is not antiquated its best in class.

    • @ronkemperful
      @ronkemperful Місяць тому +1

      @@TheBMurda I agree, the Sienna prices are absolutely insane, and I admit that some of the older V-6 designs such as the GM 3.8 for Buicks in the 1990s can last well over 300,000 miles with routine service. But, in today's world where there is a shortage of automotive mechanics, which I've experienced profound delays in getting my Subaru serviced, I'm wondering how many Honda V-6 will actually get their timing belts changed when they should be. That service... which will cost more in the future, and more frequent oil changes to protect the engine from the stresses of cylinder deactivation, will be critical for longevity. I tend to keep my cars for well over 150,000 miles (240000kms), and I guess that I'm too lazy or frugal to change a timing belt or have an oil change every 5000kms. My dad owned a Honda V-6 engine in the 2000s that pinged on anything less than 91 octane and was not the most refined engine compared with other V-6's at the time. I don't think that Honda has really invested upgrades in this engine as they should.

      @ You can permanently turn off VCM if it concerns you with very little effort. Also, this V6 has been replaced with a new low emissions certified design that goes from SOHC to DOHC in the 2023+ Honda Pilot that no longer has VTEC. Once this generation of Odyssey ends in 3 years this engine will be replaced by that and/or a hybrid system.

    Just before the full covid locked down, these were like averagely $45,000. The rate of inflation doesn't justify the increase at all

    That odyssey exterior looks so outdated same as 15 years ago same body lines I go with a sienna instead definitely hybrid all wheel drive 👍

    Why in the world add that ridiculous slot in the bumper. It is like the designers said we have to change something and that was the best they could come up with.

    Hondas have started to look cheaper, with interiors that seem almost copy-pasted across models. It’s surprising, but Toyota has really outpaced Honda in terms of interior quality.

    6;12 PC alert. leave out older people replace with less active people. no discrim and actually to include many people in sad shape. also showing seats out and 3 rd row folded would be seller for me on camping trips.

    People will pay $73,000 Canada because you have to understand this thing gets 35 miles per gallon... What's the Tahoe get 15? Questionable reliability? Rear wheel drive bias in snow... Come on dude that's like comparing the price of a pickup truck to a sports car totally different animals. I have an odyssey I bought it for 31, 700 and so far I put $30,000 in gas in it and that's at 23.5.

    The rear entertainment system really got a great update..Honda DELETED the actual DVD player !!! What a total joke. This is a total DOWNGADE !! Honda keeps downgrading this vehicle year over year. First they eliminated the rear ceiling HVAC vents in 2018, then they eliminated the fridge cooling box , deleted the vaccum, and now deleted the DVD player. Honda just keeps on donwgrading this vehicle over and over again except the price keeps climbing. Thumbs DOWN.
