We rent a Chrysler minivan for long trips with 5 to 7 people, the rental company here does not have any other choice. It is the base model V6 version, not the less reliable and more expensive plug in hybrid. Reviews I have seen have it driving better than the Toyota, but it is not as reliable and uses more fuel. I have heard of problems with getting warranty covered and later repairs done at a Hyundai or Kia dealer, and some in the past started to lose engine oil early. If you do buy a used minivan, the previous owner was unlikely to drive it like they stole it and lower the reliability.

What I like about you reviews is that yo never try to hide the truth. Unfortunately most of the "professional" car reviewers at best just hint secretly at the real issues such as poor reliability, many just bashfully pool them under the rug. Despite being the oldest of the three, I'll still choose the Honda Odyssey because it's actually nice to drive, and the 3.5L V6 is such a gem. Sure, the V6 still has a timing belt, but you only have to replace it every 100K miles. Also, I live in Southern California, so AWD is not really a priority for me.

A maintenance disadvantage of the Odyssey is that it has a timing belt and will require costly replacement around 100k miles. The Carnival's warranty is nice, but there have been too many stories of people's cars sitting at the dealers for weeks due to battery drain and other issues. The Carnival's tech and interior are nicest. Odyssey is the best value for the dollar imo. The Sienna is most difficult to find in stock, but supplies are improving. Don't pay over MSRP!

Yes! Never pay above MSRP! That belt on the Honda costs 500-1500 depending where you get it done. Not that expensive for something you do once. If you have to do it twice that’s even better cause it only means you’ve saved tons of money by not replacing your car for a long time. My dealer used to charge 900 in 2020 for this service. Thats why im waiting for my grand highlander. Im in nyc, so 36mpg city is well worth it. Plus not neededing to do a brake service for 4-6 yrs means more money in my pocket. Sorry to hear you lost yours. I still have my 07 Sienna with 190K miles and will drive it into the ground. It's got more cargo room than any of the new line ups. Not to mention the simplicity and practicality of it. I often get 28MPG highway. I can remove middle row seats and can climb into the rear of the vehicle to attend to the kids without having to get out in the rain and cold. With these new vans you'd have to stand out there in the rain and snow pouring on you while trying to get a squirmy kid in a car-seat. With the 07 one can quickly pop the kid inside and get inside yourself...turn around, go back and buckle them in while staying warm and dry. These new models filled up with all this clap trap is a big turn off to me.

As a owner of a Honda Odyssey for 10 years, I am here to tell you it's not reliable. The engine has VCM issues causing it to burn oil and foul up the catalytic converts prematurely. It also has oil leaks that causes the alternator to fail plus a bunch of suspension problems down the line.

I like elegant simplicity in a vehicle and don't need or want all the excess BS. I like spacious van like interiors where you can climb into the rear seats from the front if need be like in my 07 Sienna. These vehicles are becoming less vans and more like vans trying to identify as a car! I just don't care for it. I'm buying a van because I want a van with all it's practical functionality, not a car. Add to this the insane high prices and supposed supply chain issues these companies can stick it up their rear end as far as I'm concerned! Until they get their act together instead of playing the games that they're playing then they can forget it! I'll hang onto to my older vehicle as long as possible.

Do some research on that 1.6 T. Kia and Hyundai have had some major issues with that engine. My wife’s Tucson has that engine and the engine was replaced at 85,000 miles because of massive oil consumption issues. I was excited about the Kia hybrid but that engine was a poor choice. Should have put the 2.5 in there with the hybrid. If you buy the Kia, save all your oil change and maintenance receipts. If you have engine issues, they will require all that paperwork. Our mechanic kept the records, so we had no issues submitting them to Hyundai. After 4 oil consumption tests we had a new engine but were in a rental for a month while it was being repaired.
