@ less chosen one, more sinister power armor. Maybe he finds a living armor once used by a fierce deadite warrior general or something, so that the armor’s nature is evil and thus he has to struggle against the armors nature in order to receive the power boost that comes with it.
Imagine Guts and Ash teaming up, and using a dragonslayer sized chainsaw. Now that would be groovy

Dark Fantasy's original definition is fantasy that has horror elements, like Conan, Solomon Kane, Elric, so it was bound to have horror from the start
I have always seen Ash of evil Dead as the OG Guts but I lean more towards Ash as he jokes about his misfortunes. Love both characters they are my favorites too!
Evil Dead is heavily influenced by H.P. Lovecraft's work, and Berserk is either directly or indirectly inspired by Evil Dead.
Guts, Ash and Doomguy imagine if they worked together...
Interesting parallels. I see the missing limb as symbol for a sacrifice for the greater good or possibly a metaphor for losing a fraction of one's humanity to be able to fight the inhuman. Both series have such a contrasting tone but also a surprising amount of similarities..

I watched Evil Dead 2 back when I was way too young to do so, and thoroughly enjoyed it, Ash was my superhero alongside RJ MacReady in The Thing.Those two movies are coincidentally my two fondest memories of my dad, I begged him to let me watch them both, in both instances he replied "Alright, but don't go crying that you're too scared to sleep later!"
Accidentally stumbled on Berserk on UA-cam couple of years ago, and the moment I saw the gauntlet fall down to reveal the cannon, and everything go up in flames, I felt as excited as that same kid watching Evil Dead 20 years prior.
Too bad my old man wasn't around to watch it with me.

Their is another character that I will say is fairly similar to guts that being Corum a character from Michael moorcock set in a fantasy setting similar to berserk and much like guts he ends up getting his arm and eye taken away and replaced as well

Dude we all noticed. Funny thing is, miura, didnt notice until after berserk had been on going. He really didnt rip off evil dead. At least, thats what he claimed.
I dont see the issue in berserk being directly influenced by evil dead.
If you were gonna make a dark fantasy, thats how it should be done.
I never thought about it bit the similarities are uncanny. The tidbit about Miura seeing the Evil dead movies and thinking he might get sued is really funny lol
“Captain Supermarket” is funny since he does end up working in one at the end of army of darkness
Groovy
You know, what really strikes me about this mashup is how weirdly perfect it could be. Ash's whole "groovy" attitude would be such a jarring but fascinating contrast to Berserk's bleakness. Can't you just imagine him meeting Guts for the first time? He'd probably say something like "Nice sword, pal. Compensating for something?" right before having to dodge a swing from the Dragon Slayer.
The idea of Ash during the Eclipse is particularly haunting. Sure, he's dealt with Deadites, but the sheer horror of watching everyone he's grown to know in the Band of the Hawk being torn apart would likely break even his wise-cracking spirit for a while. Though I bet he'd still manage to get in one last "This is getting medieval in all the wrong ways" before everything goes to hell.
I can totally see him and Guts developing this grudging respect for each other. They're both survivors who've seen their friends die horribly and been marked by supernatural forces. Though Guts might get real tired of Ash's constant "Come get some" battle cries.
The dynamic with the rest of Guts' party would be hilarious too. Picture Isidro absolutely idolizing Ash and trying to mimic his one-liners, while Frances is completely scandalized by his existence. And Puck would probably love him - another source of comic relief in this dark world!
You know what's really interesting? Both Ash and Guts are defined by their prosthetic weapons - the chainsaw hand and the cannon arm. They could probably swap some modification tips, though I'm not sure medieval blacksmiths are ready for Ash's "boom stick" specifications.
Want to speculate about how Ash would handle some of Berserk's other major moments? Like his reaction to Griffith's reincarnation, or how he'd deal with the Kushan Empire?

I can say both of them is the berserk and Eva Dad is both the craziest franchises of all time. Can you think about it? Like both of them to start off with good good moments. But with bad habits mostly and you think about it, I think one time his comic book adaptation of him was crazy
I recently watched the Movie Trilogy with my GF. Can't wait to jump in the series and the remake, as well as Evil Dead Rise.
Its time for EVIL-BERSERK-DEAD. A real live action movie of berserk staring Bruce Campbell as guts wielding a giant chainsaw.

Perhaps one of those cases where Miura and Sam Raimi were drinking from the same astral watering hole.
I think their characters are very different but would make good friends, guts would benefit a lot from meeting a cynic like ash. Levity in the face of adversity is a valuable thing. Ash is also witty and has an unorthodox way with words. It would be like a warrior unlocking thief -skill-tree skills.

5:44 i was curious so i found it. Tankobon volume 14, i don't know the chapter number: 「義手。。。か？随分ゴッツイな」. I didn't know what ゴッツイ means, apparently an emphatic pronunciation of ごつい -"big, rugged", etc. I think a fair translation would just be like, "A prosthetic arm? This thing is massive/solid/heavy."
If they were to mix evil dead, with bersekr for a live action berserk movie. and by mixing evil dead, I dont mean the classic one. But the more hardcore remake. which I dont like. But it is much darker, much more brutal.
The problem i had in the remake, was no ash, and no demon killing.
You do a much darker, more hardcore demon killing dark high fantasy, with tones of the evil dead remakes deadites. you would have something very satisfying.
The problem with the remake is, it piled on the horror, but it NEVER gave viewers a release from the horror. so it was just a bombardment of brutal shit until it was ending. Evil dead works, because of ash. because of the balance, of having brutal scary demons, be brutally fucked up by a quippy badass that wont take their shit. Thats where the humor comes from. Its like one punch man. the bad guys are hyped up, then taken down hilariously.
But with berserk, that relief can come from guts having an epic knock down drag out,m bloody fight.
In fact, Id say a film maker could easily make a series that could live up to evil dead and berserk. if they followed the same formula.
Berserk didnt actually do this. Well outside of letting griffith get away with it all. But still that moment came when skullknight fucked the god hands shit up. Thats also what is missing from the end of the series.
Just guts gaining the power, to kill every god hand, and fuck griffith with his own blade.
The point of ash, is to hype up the demons, then watch them die one by one.
Thats what a berserk trilogy should be.
Just a assua;lt of insane demonic hit, then guts killing it all.
Thats what was great about ED 2 and army of darkness.
They could create something similar, if they ever did berserk correctly.
I see it like this. Something similar to solomon kane. which is a good berserk fix if i ever saw one in live action.
Mixed with the white walker sheet from game of thrones.
Guts has already become the black swords man, it starts with the beginning of his story after golden age. Where he meets a man and his grand daughter.
But sometime in the night, the daughter, becomes an evil dead remake style berserk demon. thats calls on all kinds of zombies skeletons and demons.
And Gutzu wakes up to find this little demon girl doing deadite sheet to her grandfather.
And you get a scene of guts slaughtering these op, overtly terrifying brutal and disgusting demons that cut off their own extremities and do excorcist type sheet..
It would be siiiiick
But for cinematic purposes I would make gut's sword not a great sword. but a wide bast ~erd sword.

I’m so tired of protein adds, I’m not into exercising or anything related to that crap so why so much the same. Oh and the frickin warmly hoodie or whatever.
I’m just venting, love Berserk and Evil dead. Berserk is back to a trickle but at least it isn’t completely done. Bruce Campbell seems done with the role mostly and I can’t see anyone else replacing him as the almighty Ash. I’m fine with comics and maybe some animated content but live action, just pass the torch and create an original character. I’m still waiting on a big trouble little china & Evil Dead crossover. Seeing Jack Burton and Ash interact would be the goat.

The “Evil Dead” is different from “Berserk” in that the antagonists are different in one way. The Apostles are evil humans, not possessed humans.
Because of this difference the material in “Berserk” is more motivationally, perverse than in “Evil Dead”. Ash is fighting against evil. Guts is fighting sin. Not just the sins of others, but, in some sense, sin itself in the “God Hand”.
Ash is not fighting sin itself, which is in all of us, he’s just fighting some dudes who want to kill or possess everyone. Ash’s fight is evolutionary, it’s survival. Guts’ fight is religious, it’s for the human soul.
